Sox are looking for a righty reliever?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) Are you asking me to defend the irrationality that goes on in a game thread? lol, good one. No, but I think it's a useful reference point here. The fans of the team actually want these top relievers to be used more than they are.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 01:53 AM) 2 game? No way. I doubt they cut the cord if they are 7 back. Though difficult, they can make that up if they play pretty well down the stretch. With the salary committment this year and the inconsistent play...yeah, I bet KW cuts the cord if he's 7 back on July 28.

Sox are looking for a righty reliever?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) I think you missed his point. It isn't about season-long workload. It is about multiple instances of appearences on consecutive days, or 4-5 times in a week, or multiple innings plus consectutive outings, or warming up everyday (even if you don't pitch in a game... those kinds of thing which can easily be hidden in total appearences and IP. How many times though do we wind up mad on this site because Ozzie doesn't bring in the best reliever in close games? He saves those guys as much as he can for close games where we have the lead. If it's tied in the 8th inning right now, we're going to see Bruney or Ohman most likely, not Crain. Hell, in terms of warming guys up...he doesn't warm guys up a lot fo times when he needs to (see; the start of the 6th inning yesterday). If Ozzie is to be blamed for these guys in the bullpen getting hurt, then there's no way to run a successful bullpen in this era, because he's not nearly the hardest manager on his bullpen. He's much, much, much more reliant on his starters.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 11:00 PM) Danny f***ing Duffy! For once...the rookie we were facing actually had some legit stuff. He was bringing a 95+ mph fastball most of the night and working guys inside. What you could really see also was that guys like Quentin, the Stealth Elf had at bats where they fouled off a bunch of pitches that they were very close on. The guy had just enough late sinking on his fastball that even if they timed things perfectly, they coudln't square up the pitch, so they wound up fouling it off somewhere. This time, give at least some legit credit to the kid.

WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) Do you really need a lot in return for Teahen if you can move his contract? Kotsay, Counsell, and Andy Gonzalez for Teahen is not a big return.

Sox are looking for a righty reliever?
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 01:49 AM) In terms of Ozzie's bullpen usage, it is absolutely true that the Sox bullpen consistently throws among the fewest innings each year, but I also believe it to be true that he has a tendency to ride a horse or two for far too long and that has resulted in injuries and ineffectiveness for certain Sox pitchers during his tenure. The big ones I can think of right off the bat are Jenks, Linebrink, and Putz, but I think there have probably been others too...perhaps Thornton is also an example of that. That is something that should be and seems to have been avoided this year pretty well due to the depth of the pen. I don't think any of those injuries have to do with the bullpen pitcher being ridden too hard, because really, none of them were ridden all that hard. None of them have ever been near the top of the league in appearances or innings with us. If those guys are being ridden too hard, then we need 8-9 men ready to be in the bullpen because they can't handle an average workload.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) He only has one big league pitch. His slider and change are below average and he doesnt even throw a curve. By what standard is it judged that his slider and change are below average?

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) If he is fatigued as has been suggested by well...Jake himself, then the only cure for that is rest. He could just have too much tread off the tire as well. No it's not. He just got extra rest. He needs to build up that arm.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) That's what I'm saying. It was poor managing. Not defending him. Someone should have been up at the start of the inning. Just don't pretend that the pen can be ready in :45.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) I'm sure that is the reason, but its no excuse. Not any stall tactic, didn't get anyone up until the cattle was out of the barn. It doesn't take long to get loose in these conditions. The bullpen didn't get up until after te 3rd run came in and then that was Sale. Not excuses, just the reality.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) so a guy who's been complaining of fatigue battles with less than stellar stuff but you don't have anyone up the third time thru the order in the 7th inning. Just wanted to make sure I got that right. Yup. Fatigue shmatigue.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) So we keep Peavy in? WHY? I can understand somewhat with the bases loaded, but once he gives up that hit, yank him Oz. The bullpen probably isn't even ready yet.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:50 PM) I see our offense has shown up once again. Too bad there's no room for a hot hitting Viciedo in this fantastic offense. For once, this pitcher actually has some legit stuff. We ought to have taken more pitches and we should have taken advantage of a chance ortwo, but the guy is actually throwing a legit 95.
