QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 23, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) Trade bait maybe? Yeah, lets all pretend that teams are breaking down the door for the 0-8 pitcher.

They'd given us 3 extra shots with bad defense so far. And we've done nothing with any of them.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 23, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) It's a joke. Don't be so high strung. There are jokes and then there are statements that cause the person making them to look horrible.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 23, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) We also have a lot of firsts, too, like the first Major League Baseball player with a vagina (Juan Pierre). Clearly we've decided to make Juan look good in comparison by making complete fools of ourselves.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) That's cause he's not fast anymore. We should be doing a hit and run whenever Juan is up with someone on first. Kind of sa that he singled in the first and was stranded at first. The pitcher never had to worry.

Alexei Ramirez, maturing hitter
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 23, 2011 -> 08:14 PM) I don't like Ramirez or Beckham to have specific jobs to do at the plate. Both guys are at their best when they can relax and focus on driving the ball. Both are more suited to bat towards the bottom of the order. Oh, and as far as Viciedo, his problem is that he's never seen a ball he thinks he can't hit. It's partially true, like a poor man's Vlad, but that approach doesn't bode well for long term success. So I see you haven't bothered to keep up with Viciedo this year at all.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 23, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) 15,000 posts for the Milkman. All terrible, just terrible. You and I started at almost the same time. Can I scoff at you?

Interesting Trade Possibilities.
QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ May 23, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) If Reinsdorf is having those kinds of financial problems, why doesn't he do us all a favor and just sell? Maybe most of you are satisfied at being great every one hundred years but I'm not. And based on what immediately preceded and what has transpired since 2005, that WS championship was indeed a fluke. Financial problems? We boosted salary by $25 mil this year. He just doesn't want to lose money on the team, and no owner would.

Tour de France Thread
QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ May 23, 2011 -> 07:41 PM) Just got back from working the Tour of California. Team Radioshack is looking good with Horner and Leipheimer. I was really impressed with Ben King and Matt Busche as well; they were work horses. It's not team "The Shack? And... Horses in the sense of no longer quite human due to some extra ingredients?

QUOTE (High Mileage @ May 23, 2011 -> 07:33 PM) He's actually hitting quite a bit better on the road this season, 8 HR home and 8 HR away though... He also started his power surge right after coming back from an injury... Which is a story we've heard before too.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) His body is not much different than it was 13 years ago when he was playing at TF South. He showed a lot of power in a huge park in Detroit, and the biggest improvement seems to be his approach against LHP. Playing in that park, it's not a surprise he's putting up huge numbers finally. Nobody seems to be saying Bautista's body is any different than it was a few years ago though.

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 23, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) i don't either but making the generalization that no young player will develop is unfair. Although it does seem to be hitters and not pitchers doesn't it. Maybe Ozzie is the anti-Pinella, he has no idea how to handle hitters, Well, if any young player develops after getting benched as punishment for starting to hit, he'll do so in spite of how he's used, not because of it. Brent is not learning how to hit ML pitching with 4 at bats a week. And Dallas McPherson has not earned this playing time.

Complete idiocy? That sound like something we ought to gamble out entire financial system on. (someday, some investment firm will read this post and offer me $7 mil a year.)

Alexei Ramirez, maturing hitter
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 23, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) Dadgum right. Viciedo is a guy, IMO, who is a smart hitter, and will learn to take the walks that pitchers want to give him, after they get a little taste, and a little frightened, of his awesomeness. I don't expect him to have a high OBP with the Sox right away, but I think it will happen with time. Many sluggers have followed such a path. Viciedo has more walks in 180 PAs this year than he had at Charlotte last year in 360 PAs. Hes never going to be the Hurt, but what he needs is to be able to lay off pitches he can't hit. That's what pitchers figured out about him last august, he couldn't lay off a high and inside fastball.
