Brent Morel projection
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) Reasonable? Not many rookies are going to hit .291 in their first season (I'm not even going to count that brief cup of coffee he got last year). I find those projections pure crapola. I hope they are true, but probably pure crap. How many rookies come up after hitting around .330 at every level they've played at? That's the real question regarding these projections...how much does the batting average drop going from AA and AAA to the bigs?

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 11:00 AM) You do not trade Noah (probably everyone on the Bulls favorite teammate) who is pretty much our only chance at stopping players like Howard, Bosh, Garnett, Perkins, etc. It's not only that you don't trade him...it's that now, he's a BYC player because he signed a contract extension last year, so you almost can't trade him, unless the Nuggets are willing to take on a ton of extra money.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 09:08 PM) Heard on the Score that Twins re-signed Pavano. Edit- Here. 2 years, $16.5 million. Using B-R's numbers for what the people in Arb are likely to get, this puts the Twins total salary up over $110 million.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) Now that the SOTU is nothing but a made for TV event, the whole thing is a sham and pure stupidity - kind of like a campaign, hmmmm... When was it ever not? The Constitution requires the President to give an update about the state of the union. No where does it say a speech. The President could send a notarized document and it would satisfy the requirements of the constitution. The only reason why it has ever been a speech is that it's also a campaign even.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 07:55 AM) I agree. He is saying all the right things in the papers. But behind the scenes...the question about who he'll sign a contract extension with is what is driving all of this.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 12:12 AM) Pretty much all the remaining arms on the market are pure s***, and they aren't going to compete this year. They may as well take their lumps and bring guys up throughout the year instead of spending the additional money on guys who aren't going to do anything for them. If they have rotation room though, it makes a lot of sense for them to grab a fringe starter or two. Not only might they get lucky and get a good season out of them and gets some extra wins, but they can also deal them at the deadline to whoever needs pitching depth

Seems totally reasonable based on his minor league stats. Might get a slightly higher OBP if he adjusts faster.

Joe Crede?
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 05:56 PM) You don't know that and that argumetn could just as well be made with Peavy Unless you listen to "Doctors" who have said that Peavy should be ready to go at some point this season and who have said that Crede's back issues are the sort of thing from which you never really recover.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 06:28 PM) My thoughts after watching the Bulls lately are that they'd be nuts to not be more than willing to include Taj and Asik as part of a blockbuster trade package. Some were saying that you couldn't give up both, but I disagree. Sign some journeyman power forward if you need to add more depth up front. If the Nuggets were willing to give up Melo for any combination of players from the Bulls not named Rose and Noah, I think it'd have been done before the season started.

Armando Galarraga traded to ARZ
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) Agree to disagree. I watched a lot of Tigers games and he held his own. I understand the stats, but my eye test showed me that he has more potential than he's shown. Galarraga's sort of like Edwin Jackson if Jackson lost 7 mph on his fastball. He's got a 90 mph average fastball, with a little bit of sink on it, and a slider that sits around 86. He has a low-80's changeup that he'll throw occasionally but not often and it gets hit fairly hard when he throws it. He's the kind of guy who, if the slider is working and the fastball is pinpoint, can be extremely on (case in point last season), but if he doesn't have both pitches working, he becomes a 1 pitch pitcher without enough velocity to get guys out with the fastball and not enough difference in velocity between pitches to get people out.

Armando Galarraga traded to ARZ
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) By most every single metric I've seen we were a lot worse. Doesn't help when you've got two of the worst defensive players on the planet on one team. I'd have figured that the combination of Carlos Guillen, Magglio, Cabrera, and Jhonny wouldn't set them up very well, even with Inge and Jackson.

Want to hear Mr. Limbaugh spend 20 seconds mocking how silly Asian speech sounds to him? Stephen Colbert does a deliberately and patently offensive Chinese character that sounds exactly the same.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) In our park with an inferior defense, a 5+ ERA would be a foregone conclusion. Really, our defense was/is that far behind the Tigers?

Albert Pujols' extension - Cards fail to extend by deadline
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) Here is the hard part for the Cardinals. If they are going to try to resign him, it has to be a legitimate offer. If it is a fraction of what could be gotten else where, it makes it easy for him to leave, and it makes the organization look bad. If they offer 6/180, while someone else is willing to go 10/300, The Cardinals will have to answer to their fans. If the difference is something like 9/250 versus 10/300, the Cardinals can legitmately look like they gave an honest effort, and keep the fanbase as happy as can be expected. But the problem there is..."You lost Albert over a measly $5 million a season"?
