TSA - Going too Far?
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) Keep telling yourself that every time they grope a 3 year old. Keep ignoring all the Americans who headed off to Somalia to join AQ.

Braves Acquire Dan Uggla
Dunn put up a 1.63 ERA at AAA this year out of the bullpen and had solid velocity in that spot as well. Infante was an all-star infielder this year. I guess a comparable Sox price would be giving up Santos and perhaps Alexei.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) Hes a DH waiting to happen. His fielding is bad, but it's not Carlos Quentin bad. -10 average UZR, but still 5th overall in baseball in WAR for a 2b. His bat is so good that if he was "average" defensively, he'd be right there with Cano for WAR out of the 2b spot.

Really wouldn't be an effective use of your time. You could be posting in this thread instead.

Manny wants "Vlad-like" deal
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) I guess I'd be okay with Manny if we somehow stumbled upon a stud left handed bat who is good in the outfield. That's probably the biggest problem with signing Manny...if Manroid is healthy, then your RF next year is either Quentin or a Teahen/Quentin ball-dropping party-platoon.

Probably should note that virtually nothing will actually make me "See" that.

Manny wants "Vlad-like" deal
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) Thats not true. In arbit you can't more than a 20% paycut. He means if AJ were offered arbitration and Manroid was offered that $5.5 million we talkeda bout in the other thread.

Fascinating. A good day in this thread for me.- 2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) From that article: "Arizona would likely want three players for Upton — a backend reliever, a starter and a bat." If they're demanding 3 pieces...they're not getting MLB-ready pieces. For the Red Sox, for example, it'd be like Bard + Ellsbury...but only because they seem ready to move Ellsbury anyway. Danks, Santos/Infante, Viciedo/Escobar would fit that description though. For the BoSox, Ellsbury, Bard, and Felix Doubront isn't a spectacular deal in my head. Anyone disagree and really like the last guy?- Quietly so no one sees . . .
Don't think that angers me.- Quietly so no one sees . . .
Ziggy is likely not playing for any team you'll see.- 2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Jason Churchill says he thinks the Braves would be a big player in an Upton deal, and Keith Law says that the Royals make a lot of sense, which would scare the hell out of all of us. It'd depend on what the D-Backs are looking for. It's entirely possible that they could be 100% insistent on getting MLB-established talent for him, rather than a trio/quartet of prospects.- 2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) I would too. I think the Dbacks would ask for Beckham/Sale along with Danks though, and I don't think Kenny says ok to that. So I think the furthest he goes is Danks + Vicedo/Morel + some high upside prospect. Maybe even Mitchell is asked for since he's an OF. Think about the comparable though. If the D-Backs price was Beckham/Sale along with Danks...that's roughly equivalent to asking the Red Sox to give up Lester, and then saying it's not enough and we need an MLB ready or MLB established top prospect to go along with him.- A Little Phil Column
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) In 2010, this % jumped to 37.71%. How many of those were wasted on Kotsay though? And, worth noting, our offense was actually better in 2010 than in 2005. You're right that having a left-handed hitter who sucks is worse than having a right-handed hitter who is good, but I still think there's a clear benefit to some measure of balance.- TSA - Going too Far?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) Further, I cannot believe we haven't been able to create a scanner for both metal AND explosives, or hell even just thought to put the two one after the other and run through both. I did one of those stupid puffer machines previously, but you STILL have to take off your shoes and all metal to use it, so what's the point? Scanning for a lot of actual explosives on the human body is really, really difficult, because a lot of explosives are carbon-based. Sulfur, saltpeter, charcoal...you'e still scanning for carbon and salts even in the most basic gunpowder. High explosives are often high energy organic compounds that combust rapidly...they're basically indistinguishable from flesh in a lot of high-energy scans. Science runs into this type of problem all the time; the technique you use to tell 1 type of carbon atom bonding environment from another is a lot more complicated than the process of telling whether something is a carbon atom or an iron atom.
