Just a reminder and wondering about Palin
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 10:10 AM) She is great at bringing all kinds of people together. Hopefully she will lead this great nation one day. Are you suggesting she'll be elected and then resign on Jan. 21, declaring her work finished?

But Allah is sort of an ethereal deity, isn't he? Why does he care if he's on camera? It's Muhammad that doesn't like being photographed.

Justin Upton
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) That organization still needs pitching in a bad way, and dealing Upton may be a great way to bring in some big arms. Now that I can believe completely. However, if I'm in that seat, I'm doing so with an eye towards 2011 possibly and 2012 definitely. If they got good years out of say, Mark Reynolds, Stephen Drew, and Daniel Hudson, that division is right there for the taking next year.

Justin Upton
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 09:01 AM) I'm not positive it was discussed...I didn't read through your guys' whole conversation, only bits and pieces...but it's possible that Towers is shopping him not because he necessarily wants to deal him or thinks that there is something mechanically wrong with his swing but instead because he realizes that he's an incredibly valuable property, Arizona could be as many as 3 years away from fielding a competitive team, and thinks that he could jumpstart his rebuilding process by dealing away Upton for a solid package of prospects. He might view Upton as a 4 WAR player, but if he can get three 2.5 WAR players who are even cheaper, he's going to do it. Wite...I gotta say, if a GM is coming into a place like Arizona and thinking "I'm 3+ years away from competing", he's setting himself up for failure. Especially in that division, there's no reason why a team needs a 3 year rebuilding plan.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 08:14 AM) Disturbing news regarding the Republicans and the START Treaty. It closes with... Huh? I'm not sure what I read here even makes sense. They're actively negotiating with Iran and North Korea, or the fact that Iran and North Korea oppose US/Russian cooperation makes it ok to hit the Republicans by tying them to those countries?

QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) Check Matsui's OPS, the sox have already said to be interested in him for their DH vacancy. I believe he made something like $5-6M last year. .820 OPS, 124 OPS+, 70 OPS points better than Damon. $6 million.

Is it time to tear down Wrigley?
QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 05:18 PM) Its pretty obvious Wrigley is in the same situation as Fenway was when the new ownership, John Henry and company, purchased the Red Sox in 2003 I believe. There is no doubt Wrigley is need of a complete overhaul, ala Fenway 2003-2005. I remember before Red Sox announced a serious of upgrades and enhancements there was a lot of talk about replacing Fenway with a new Fenway. Anyway, so the new Red Sox ownership pumped something like $400M or so into Fenway to "bring it up to speed". Thats why you see the new Green Monster seating area, the Budweiser Right Field Roof Deck, New Field and drainage system, the .406 club/pavilion seating and lounge area, as well as other enhancements like seat/concourse/vending improvements. Thats basically the same thing Wrigley needs, its just that their new owner has proved to be a dope and asked the a bankrupt City and State, at a bad economic time, to float them $200M or more. If Wrigley is to survive, it will eventually need a makeover just like Fenway in recent years, once you spend $400M-$500M on stadium improvements you basically commit to that ballpark and location for the next 40 years or more. The cubs can (and should) do the same, they just need to get their freaking heads out of their asses!! If the city/state say yes, then how is that the owner being a dope? If the city/state say no, what has he lost?

Sox looking at Johnny Damon as well
QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) Do we really need to go out and sign a .265 hitter with 7 HR and 50 RBI, isnt that like AJ's 2010 campaign. Plus what the obsession with getting players who were in their prime about 6 or 7 years ago. The Johnny Damon ship has sailed. AJ's OPS last year was .688, Damon's was .756. Furthermore, AJ was playing in a much more hitter-friendly ballpark than Damon. Batting average and RBI aren't telling you the whole story there. That all said...a .756 OPS out of your DH spot isn't a spectacular number, even if the guy occasionally plays the field and you like that flexibility. It would have been stellar for the Sox last year...because the LH hitter in the DH platoon was so bad. Is it worth $8 million to the Sox next year? I'd like to think they could find better ways to spend that money level. $4 million? Now we're talking.

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) is this for the 99'ers? If it is, I'll break with my party affiliation and say, let them lose benefits. If you can't find an acceptable job in 2 years, you're not looking hard enough or maybe your standards are a bit too high. Yes, this would be for the 99ers. I'll admit, I'm conflicted on this one. Frankly, you're somewhat right on the latter. On the other hand...damnit, there aren't enough jobs open even at cash registers to absorb 2 million+ people right now.

Not that anyone should really be surprised, but the House failed to pass a 90-day extension of unemployment benefits a little bit ago. It could come back under different rules in a bit, but getting through the Senate is of course, significantly murkier. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 million people will have their unemployment benefits end at right at the end of Christmas, if the Congress takes no action.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) KW just won't let guys go. If he's chased in the past, he's determined to pick them up even after they've started to decline. The rumors this year are literally the same as last off season. Well what exactly do you expect when guys sign 1 year deals?
