  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) Way too expensive, imo. Wasn't the same thing said about the Prius at first? And anyway, the competition is pouring out. See the previous post.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) Reports are that McNabb's deal only guarantees him $3.5 million if they cut him this summer. That would make way more sense. Why would they cut him this summer? Between the FA uncertainty and the fact that they have no obvious replacement, that's really unlikely. The time they're gonig to want him for is the next year, maybe two. Even if he bombs the rest of the year, you probably still bring him back.
  3. Reduce your fiber intake and that stuff might not wind up in this thread.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) I think it's pretty safe to assume last season was about a worst-cast scenario for Manny as a hitter. And he was still worth $6 million. Really, I don't think that's a safe assumption at all. I don't think you can look at guys who have injury-shortened seasons who are already up there in age and say that worst case scenario isn't a worse season. Now that we're out of the steroid era...injury shortened, performance hampered seasons for 39 year olds should be the norm, not the exception.
  5. Maybe y'all need to change the posts per page.
  6. Justice...served
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) I agree. 5.5 for Manny seems like a ridiculous bargain. For a 39 year old former steroid abuser who missed about 1/3 of last season with injuries and can't play the field any more? Manny was only worth about $6 million last year according to fangraphs. You might call that a bargain, but it's certainly not a ridiculous one.
  8. Great, I beat someone!
  9. F***, every time.
  10. Don't want to know why a tire company rates restaurants
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) Oh I agree. But his story came from no where and was a pretty major story... even if the end result wasnt much of anything. Having the end result mean something is sort of the definition of the award as I understand it.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 12:32 PM) Definitely, although I bet it starts at like Sale & Beckham. Upton's contract isn't too bad either, only his age 26 & 27 seasons cost $14.5 million. But that is through 2015. I wonder if something could be done around D1 there. The D-backs really need LHP, they have a young rotation with no one really "established" or playoff-tested, and they'd still be saving money by moving Upton's contract.
  13. At that price level? I'd leave it at a maybe, but if someone else wants him they can have him. If we go through this offseason and we are fully unable to fill the DH role by the end of January, and he's still available, then we can talk, but it's sort of a desperation move at that point.
  14. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) Julian Assange should be the person of the year. I can see why you'd say that...but really, the wikileaks work hasn't really seemed to make a big impact on anything.
  15. Motor Trend car of the year: Chevrolet Volt.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) Interesting. However, that doesn't address the question of whether it is more beneficial to buy new in this given climate to buy used? The last I really heard of this issue was that the price of used cars spiked substantially after the cash for clunkers program, which eliminated a large number of old used cars from the market (decreased supply, constant demand, increased price).
  17. Be well.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 09:44 AM) If we plan on contending(which we always do) then Chris will definitely be in the bullpen to start the season. I gotta say, the more I think about it, the more I disagree. If we plan on putting our best possible 25 man contending roster forward, I think one major goal must be somehow "maximizing the value of all of our guys", especially if we are a team operating with salary constraints. If I ask "What is Sale's maximum value to this team", unless the team thinks he's a huge injury risk, it's pitching 160-185 innings in the 5th starter role, rather than 50 as the 2nd lefty in the bullpen. If I want to put my best possible team out next year...I think I put out a better team with Sale in the rotation, Danks or Floyd (or maybe Jackson) traded to bring in a solid guy who can play RF and be a legitimate lineup piece, and a couple of cheaper signings to fill the 2nd lefty and 6th starter/bullpen longman role.
  19. Really, you only think that because you have a car. That's a heckuva hike.
  20. Perhaps you and I have different definitions of just down the road. Kouts is 30 miles from Michigan City with no direct highway connection.
  21. 1 year, $12 million for Hiroki Kuroda, who put up a 3.39 ERA in 196 innings last year. 1 year, $3 million for catcher Ramon Hernandez to stay with the Reds. 2 years, $2.7 million for this "Geoff Blum" character from the Diamondbacks.
  22. There's just no way I can read this without chuckling.
  23. A nice chart comparing the average age of NBA teams with the age weighted by who actually gets the minutes. Presumably the Bulls will move upwards somewhat when Boozer comes back, but that looks like they're one of the best performing young teams already.
  24. Now how would you know that?
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) Sure I can, to varying extents. What's your point? Did I ever say otherwise? No, but none of the other ones raised a complaint.
