  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) Ridiculous that you give Marmol that 2-0 pitch with his control problems completely changed the at bat. The ump that called that pitch a strike to end the Tigers/Braves game yesterday thought that pitch to Rios was outside.
  2. Well, i'm glad I didn't turn this off...
  3. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) The difference is you want us to be like Europe and everywhere else, and the rest of us want America, not the United States of Socialism.
  4. I felt a wave of pain washing over me a moment ago on behalf of that ball. Ouch.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) I don't think our pitching will be this good once we play AL teams again. Their poor performance against the AL proves this so far. The pitching doesn't have to stay "This good"...this good is like a 1.8 ERA. The pitching has to be where we thought they'd be though. Put "Peavy, Buehrle, D1, Floyd, and Garcia" pitching like they're supposed to with a solid if unspectacular Jenks, Putz, and Thornton, and a league average offense...we're close enough now that I think that's the division.
  6. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) I'm surprised there's so many Cub Fans there today. I would've thought they'd all be at the Pride Parade. I find this offensive.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) Bah, even during this win streak we've only been scoring 4.6 runs per game (league average), we're going to need better offensive production as the season wears on, the starting pitchers aren't going to hold the opponent to 3 runs or less every game. If this team could keep up a "League average" offense the rest of the season, I think we win the division, assuming the pitchers stay healthy.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) Arizona isn't playing for anything anyways, they may as well protect their investment at this point in time. Shut him down until the All Star Break just to make sure his arm doesn't fall off. I'd just give him 1 start off. Any longer than that and his arm is going to start tightening up and it'd be like coming off the DL.
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) Anyone else lose the sound on Comcast ? Yes.
  10. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) ah yes, the 'OMG GREAT DEPRESSION FOR SURE!" tactic. so, Balta, how much deficit spending do we need to avoid the Great Depression II. How many new pointless government jobs will save the economy? How much will all these jobs cost? $5 trillion? $50 trillion? $100 trillion? You know, we can print that much. And exactly, besides the new government jobs, where will the other jobs come from? First of all...I'm impressed that you can include firing 200k teachers as "pointless government jobs". Secondly...if we can't keep printing more money, why do bond yields and inflation rates keep dropping? And third...hypothetically, let's say we follow your path and fiscally retrench and try to rebalance budgets. Where do the jobs come from in your case? Businesses right now have enough cash to expand hiring if it is a good business decision, but none of them are doing so, because there's no demand for their products. $8 trillion or so in consumer wealth was eliminated by the housing bubble. ON top of that, the average american hasn't gotten a raise in a decade, and unemployment has more than doubled. Your fiscal retrenchment proposal has an even worse problem with "where will the other jobs come from".
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Generally, pitchers ERA's in the start following a 120+ pitch start are much higher. I have no idea where to find the statistic and I don't want to do the research to actually calculate it, but I would imagine ERA's go up by atleast one full point. That alone tells me that pitch count is significant. And there are enough anecdotal cases like Gil Meche, who threw 130 or so in a game last year and has struggled since, that make me think giving him an extra start off has very little downside.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) How have we not launched one yet with the wind blowing out to left? I don't feel like we've hit anything well in the air all day.
  13. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) can't pay for all those $100,000 a year government admin jobs when there is no tax base. got to live within your means. And trying to live within your means when the fed can't lower rates any more won't work any better now than it did in 1929. That's the Paradox of Thrift in a nutshell.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) Danks just lost it. He's been kinda mediocre these past couple of weeks. Prior to today, in June, D1 has given up: 4 runs in 5.1 innings, 0 runs in 7 innings, 2 runs in 8 innings, and 3 runs in 7 innings. He's won his last 3 starts.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Ballgame? It's the 5th inning. 3 weeks ago, I'd totally have agreed, that'd have been the ballgame. I get the feeling we're not quite done yet though.
  16. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Reading the game thread makes me feel like the Cubs are about to break the game wide open That's a 3 run lead now.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Pulling AJ there for not running to first would be the dumbest move in baseball history. We've won 11 in a row. He is a veteran. He would have got thrown out anyway. If it's something Oz is mad about, he should mention it after the game. In a perfect world does everybody play like Pete Rose? I guess yes. That wasn't just "Not playing like Pete Rose", that was not even paying attention to the ball after it got away from the catcher because he was too busy flipping his bat.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) I'm saying AJ struck out and walked back to the dugout. Big deal. Move on. What is Oz supposed to do, scream at him? I was responding to a post that said he should sit the rest of the game. Dumb. I've seen managers pull players for less crap than that.
