QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) They should drop the superdelegate BS IMO. It's undemocratic, and the Dems actually have the better system with the proportional representation without it. After this election, I think most people would probably agree with that. It's something that was probably a good idea at the time (Motivated in part by the need to encourage people to actually show up at the convention, motivated in part by a desire to try to make sure there was some sort of veto against an "unelectable" candidate), but times change, and it's pretty obvious now that they are a problem that should be done away with. The problem might be...since the people who'd have to get rid of the superdelegates are the DNC and are therefore all superdelegates themselves, will they want to reduce their own power?

This WaPo piece touches on one of those trends worth noting...the U.S. really has done very little to address the refugee situation/crisis in Iraq, where something like 3+ million people have been forced from their former homes. In that vacuum, the biggest group that has stepped in to take care of people has been the Al Mahdi Army, which has built good will with those people by providing them with homes, sometimes money, and so on, sometimes in exchange for service. I think this is noteworthy because it was exactly this sort of situation which helped Hamas gain a big electoral victory in the Gaza strip...the government wasn't really taking care of the people, that group was, and they wound up showing up strongly in elections.

Just an advance warning, let's keep this thread polite.

Those are odd results. Closer than I'd expect in both PA and NC, and higher for Obama in IN than I'd expect, so it's really hard to point at it and say "There's a clear bias in this direction covering all 3".

Our starting pitching has allowed 6 runs in 5 games.

Bloomberg/LA Times are reportedly going to put out an Indiana Poll later today showing BO + 5 over Hillary.
-
Our last time through the rotation, our starters have given up this many runs: 4 0 0 2 0 On top of that, 1 of Jose's runs was given up after he left and Logan came in. None have gone less than 6+ innings.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) I really don't like the "Early in the count" swinging we're doing this inning after the success we had taking pitches last inning. And Just as I say that, Joe works a 3-1 count and drives in a run. Joe Crede > the 2 rapid swingers in front of him right now.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) If you went around asking athletes their opinions on politics and society, I bet you'd hear some weird stuff from them too. I have 2 words for you. Carl. Everett. That is all.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) I didn't realize that the Phillies were paying for Thome's option year. In that case, it might not be a terrible idea. Still, I'd prefer to put the money towards the first year of a four-year deal for Joe. The Sox desperately need to get younger. Putting money towards a 4 year deal for Crede really doesn't make the team that much younger.

I thought we traded him to Oakland.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) Which is how it should be. How is that a problem? Its not their job to talk about what/how the speck that became the big bang because that speck. You start from where you can. It's still in its infancy compared to where we are in understanding what happened after the big bang, but I wouldn't say that there haven't been theories postulated about what could have been the driving force for the big bang itself. And I'll admit I don't understand them at all, I can give you one example. M-theory, one postulated method of looking at the universe, proposes that the universe is actually well represented in some fashion by 11 demensional "Membranes" consisting of the 4 dimensions we're familiar with (x, y, z, and t) and 7 other dimensions that are wrapped tightly around themselves. Somehow, out of this theory, comes a postulate that you could create something akin to the big bang and the formation of a universe by the collision of 2 of these 11 dimensional membranes. Don't you dare ask me how it works, because I haven't the faintest. But I would like to note that there is work being done and theories being written that may some day be testable about what actually gave rise to the big bang and the universe itself.

Didn't someone say in one of the other threads that this election would prove once and for all which side the media is on, or something like that?

QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 09:30 AM) No, you should give the shots to the people who perform better. "Talent" doesn't mean crap unless it translates into production. Uribe's pretty talented too, but he doesn't perform either. If he wants to keep his job, he better start performing.
