  1. QUOTE(Cknolls @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) Shocking. Another anonymous source. If they're good enough to lead us into Iraq...
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) The point is simple, this stuff has spread like wildfire off of a NY Daily News report/story. Everyone is itchy for a trade, we are doomed if we don't make a big trade, etc. It is humorous to me, sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't make. And man, we have almost as long of a list of those as we have of deals we did make. Konerko/Garland for Johnson Garland for Erstad BMac for just about anyone in baseball last year
  3. Speaker of the Iraqi parliament blames the violence in Iraq on..."The Jews."
  4. QUOTE(G&T @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) I misread, I guess, but you raise a good point. This deal might hinge on a prospect...possibly one we've traded before? I'd take Gio back and call it a deal!
  5. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:28 AM) People don't like the YES network crew? I've had the Extra Innings package for several years now and I think they're pretty top notch. Other crews I've enjoyed are the Rangers, Tigers (except for the play-by-play man's slick voice), and Mariners. The worst has been the Twins and Angels. Especially the Angels. Hudler is f***ing awful. I'm curious how much longer Hawk will stick around. I'm assuming he's got an open invitation from JR to stick around as long as he'd like given JR's loyalty and how Hawk has defended the franchise against the likes of Mariotti. But at the rate he's going, in 10 years he's going to turn into a joke like Harry Carey's last few years. You know what bothers me about the Yes network crew? Derek Jeter could hit a walk off home run in the 18th inning, and he'd get exactly the same "See ya" as Chris Widger would if he were to hit a 3 run home run off of Randy Johnson. They really know that they have a lot of non NY fans watching. It'd be nice to at least have a little bit of home-teamer ism thrown in there.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) Well so far there hasn't been any attacks out of the Golan Heights region, so I wouldn't expect there to be any response towards Syria. Israel hadn't even thought about Lebanon until Hezbollah invaded and kidnapped Israeli soldiers. Until then the Israeli response had been contained to Palestian territories where they were the orginal kidnapped soldier was supposed to be. Syria is supposedly one of Hezbollah's patrons just as much as Iran (although Iran has more money and better arms). Syria also is much more closely involved in Lebanon than Iran, having only pulled their troops out of Lebanon recently. Israel is probably more likely to wind up striking Syria than Iran over these actions.
  7. QUOTE(Cknolls @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) Let me guess, the senior intelligence official is none other than the non-partisan Larry Johnson. Beats me, he hasn't been named.
  8. Interestingly, I'm afraid it's a source I'm going to have to impugn, because of who actually wrote the report that Post article is citing. Why? Because the post article is not based on the bipartisan report coming out of the commission. It is instead based on an addendum to the report added in by Chairman Pat Roberts of the committee doing the report. The Bipartisan report took no position on that issue, and Chairman Roberts' addendum was only signed onto by 2 other of the Republicans on the committee. In other words, that entire report is based on a statment of 0 of the 8 Democrats and 3 of the 9 Republicans on the committee. Furthermore, there was testimony on the other side which was seemingly not heard by the Committee, despite the fact that they could not agree on what Roberts insisted upon. For example, the LA Times in 2004 quoted an unnamed CIA Official Saying
  9. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:20 AM) Which DL? Fifteen Day? Does it really matter? He was on the 15 day DL from the start of the season until what, May? And who really cares if the Cubs have an opening on their 40 man? Do you play for the Cubs AAA team? Is that it?
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) For the short-term, Gordon is more valuable than Milledge. We all know that we're focused on the next 2 seasons as our "window". How would our team look to you in 2007 with Lastings Milledge starting in LF instead of Scott Podsednik? And Anyway, hasn't Kenny said he's not buying into the "Short window" thing, that he's going more for the Braves model, working in young guys and making smart trades so that he can win every year? He's not writing off 2008, I don't know why we should.
  11. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) Freddy's throwing harder than 86. He's consistently around 87-89 and can reach back to throw 90-93 if he wants to. And if KW decides to deal him, there's a good chance that the Sox are going to have to eat a large portion of his contract. And B-Mac will be forced into the #5 spot, which means that the Sox will need two relievers in return to gain anything out of the deal. I don't see it happening. I would eat a significant portion of Garcia's contract to get Milledge. But when you're dealing with a NY team, there's no reason why you should have to eat a significant portion of a contract. Throw in another minor leaguer and keep the money.
  12. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) my mistake, it was duquette. Still, I don't even consider this deal if Milledge isn't involved. I'd rather have flash. Tom Gordon Tom Gordon + Cole Hamels? Ok.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) If it is Johnson on the mound, does Thome play? Pablo in that spacious LF might be comical. I doubt Thome will get benched at all the rest of the season unless he asks for a day off or is hurting.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) When the 30 year old is getting a kings ransom, mysteriously has dropped velocity, and is getting bombed everytime he faces an AL team then I say get BMAC into the rotation and lets rock for the rest of the year. I say put him on the block, and see what the best that comes out of it . I didn't say don't put him on the block. I just think he's worth more than a 39 year old relief pitcher.
  15. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) You guys are giving Minaya too much credit, wasn't he the one that traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano in his first year as Mets GM? I think Minaya is the type of GM that will give up a lot if you play your cards right. NO, Minaya was not the one who made that deal.
  16. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) I'm not saying we SHOULD trade for Crash, but the interest that Kenny has in him cannot be ignored. Kenny has never said a single thing about being interested in him. It's been vastly more blown up by sportswriters and message board posters than by anything coming out of the White Sox organization.
  17. QUOTE(Cknolls @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:00 AM) Did they lie about Wilson? Many, Many times. Every time they say that his wife had anything to do with him being sent to Niger, for example.
  18. I'm actually starting to like Aaron Rowand less just because of all these people saying it'd be a good idea to trade for him. Yeesh.
  19. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:11 AM) Flash and Crash NO NO NO.
  20. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:08 AM) yes but you have to be concerned about injury. if anything happens and we dont have bmac, we are in big trouble We do have backup options still at AAA. I know Haeger's 1st start wasn't anything to write home about, but if anything did happen to one of our innings-eaters, the guy's ready for a callup. He'd be in the rotation on probably more than 1/2 of the teams in the big leagues right now.
  21. Does anyone else sit here and think that a guy who pitches 200+ innings at around age 30 is more valuable than a guy who might pitch 70 inning and is around age 40, even considering contract disparities?
  22. You know what's really sad? I started typing "Prior to the DL" in the topic title window, and all I had to do was copy from a previous entry. In other news, the sun came up today.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 08:54 AM) The Mets also got burned trading a phenom for a wash-up pitcher in 2004. Believe me, it will take more than Freddy Garcia to get Milledge away from the Mets, and if Milledge is available, there will be teams willing to part with pitchers more attractive than Garcia to acquire him. Well, about the only team I could see actually being able to say that might be the Nationals with Livan Hernandez, who interestingly enough has an ERA of about 6 in the NL this year. Maybe the Marlins with D-Train, but I think they'll still hold onto him as good as they've looked this year. Maybe the Braves with Smoltz, but they really don't have room for Milledge in their outfield with Francoeur. Look up and down the list...almost every team in contention needs pitching to make a run. Boston, NY, Toronto, Detroit, Minnesota, Texas, The Mets, the Cardinals, the Brewers, the Reds, the Padres, the Rockies, the Giants, all of them could use another starting pitcher. The only teams in contention with enough starting pitching on paper IMO are the A's, the Halos, maybe Houston, and the White Sox. And the A's and Halos are in no position to deal away starting pitching unless they're white flagging this whole season. The White Sox are about the only team who is in a position to give away a genuinely top of the rotation starting pitcher, as we have BMac sitting around waiting. Everyone else needs pitching, and the teams at the bottom of the league, aside from Florida, don't have arms nearly as good as Vazquez/Garcia could be.
  24. Starting pitching, it's time. Take this team to the promised land.
