  1. Thanks for 05 Cliff. What the Hell happened to you? Hopefully we find someone who can repeat our pitching swap immediately after the AS break last year.
  2. QUOTE(soxunited @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) There isn't much of a choice now, is there? Who do you honestly expect to get for Garcia and Vasquez? You are certainly not going to get two quality starters in return. McCarthy I agree, should have been starting long ago. It is a disgrace that he has been left to languish out in the bullpen. For any team not named the Angels, Athletics, Tigers, or Astros, you could get a freaking king's ransom for them. Right now every damn playoff contender other than a small handful needs pitching desperately, especially veteran pitching who can chew up a lot of innings. There's a reason we have about 5 threads about Garcia/Vaz going to the Mets. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) Bmac needs to step into this rotation. As of right now he could pitch better than 3/5s of our current rotation. 4/5. And almost 5/5.
  3. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) Getting Jason Johnson, Jason Michaels, and Mota for Riske, Crisp, and Rhodes really help pushed their team to the next level. Shapiro of GM of the year! We can't evaluate that deal overall until we see the key part of it...Andy Marte.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) you did not just go there Yes, I did. Tell 56 to get his damn ERA back below 4. He deserves that one.
  5. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) i guess kalapse was right all along Buehrle sure as hell don't look like an ace On a staff that was supposed to have 5 aces coming into this season, right now I don't see a single one pitching like it.
  6. Meet the New Boss... Public financing of campaigns. It's the only solution.
  7. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) Why am I all about Peaches lately? Peaches come from a can. They were put there by a man. In a factory downtown. If I had my little way, I'd eat peaches every day.
  8. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) I really think the cubs would take a sack of marbles for henry blanco, and althoughhe cant hit, at least he gives you excellent defense, whereas widger cant hit and cant throw Only if they deal Maddux first, or are about to deal Maddux. They may still hope to resign him this offseason, for all we know.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) It's about the same for Chicago. Sunday: Mostly sunny and very hot, with a high near 98. Heat index values as high as 101. Southwest wind at 10 MPH w/ gusts at 22 MPH. Supposed to top out at 103 here. The usual early spring/summer onshore flow that keeps the LA Basin from broiling in May and June totally failed this year, so this whole area is just going to be cooking for the next 2 months.
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:22 PM) Agreed, however it shows you good teams go through slumps, and how quickly things can turn around. The slumps are a lot worse when you can't pitch.
  11. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 05:44 AM) So what other alternatives are there? Not a lot unfortunately. I wonder if you would give up Fields for say a package involving Corey Patterson and Daniel Cabrera (who got demoted to AAA today, but has Don Cooper written all over him). Otherwise there's really not much else out therem if you're looking for a young good leadoff hitter. Because Cooper has plenty of spare time thanks to the dynamite performance of our pitchers this year. Seriously btw, it's time to stop thinking about CF options. Our new CF has finally appeared. He's doing his job a lot better than any of the starting pitchers right now.
  12. I don't think the DCCC should have used the image in their ads, but the Contrast here is beautiful. And, barely 2 days later... Seriously, both sides, do we need this s*** in ads? And Republicans, would you like to practice what you preach here just a little bit?
  13. Our starting pitchers are simply worth more than Tom Gordon. Any and all of them are. Anything in our minor leagues for him is fair game.
  14. Fine, I'm annoyed enough to say it. Think the Mets would do Milledge, Heilman, and Sanchez for Buehrle?
  15. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,203710,00.html Seeing this article made this thread worth a bump. Seems even Bill Clinton is opposed to a fixed timeline to withdrawing from Iraq. I believe that the last Congressional attempt the Dems made, which of course the Republicans shot down, asked for benchmarks, specific goals the Administration wanted to achieve which could lead towards withdrawal.
  16. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) This is big Xbox thinking here, but if the Sox were able to get Abreu to replace Pods, would you honestly be too worried about a "true" leadoff hitter? Good speed, reliable stolen bases, very high OBP. I'd lead him off.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) All less than month before the postseason started last year. I would take the #1 pitching staff in the AL and the #10 offense in the AL over the #1 offense in the AL and #10 pitching staff in the AL any day of the week.
  18. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) its abundantly clear to me that 1.) with our starters not going deep, there is a need for another bullpen arm, simply in terms of numbers, and 2.) ross gload does nothing for this team rob mackowiak can't do.....that said i think its time to take another look at tracey, even if its for mop up duty Actually, our starters are still going ungodly deep into games compared to every other team in baseball. Even after that 19 inning mess, we still have the fewest bullpen innings pitched in baseball. And even if the guy in San Fran pitches a complete game today, today's disaster still won't be enough to change it. Anywho, this keeps up for another week, and it's time for a shakeup. Shakeup = Brandon McCarthy moving into the rotation, and someone else moving out.
  19. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) Well said. The Tigers just find a way to get it done. I'm very impressed by them. The only question now is how they're going to be able to handle adversity when some really hits. The Sox did a dynamite job of it last year, and pulled out of it before it was too late. The Tigers aren't going to win 115 this year, their pitching isn't going to be the best in recorded history, so some things are going to go wrong at some point.
  20. If a business in Philadelphia has the right to put up a sign saying "Speak English", then there's no reason why these businesses should be required to put up signs in English, unless they're providing a government service.
  21. 4 more Israeli soldiers missing after an attack by an unmanned kamikaze-type boat on an Israeli warship.
  22. So, this Braves pitching staff is abjectly terrible, but I will say this for them...they know how to take a baseball game and turn it into an entertaining evening for folks who don't want to go to sleep.
  23. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) Two for Jenks, isn't it? CBS's stats have him at 26 for 27.
