QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 1, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Because that's REALLY important stuff to know. :rolly So...let me run this down for you. The Administration was required by a judge to release records of when Abramoff visited the White House. The White House answer? 2 times. The only problem? They don't include any details about the 3 visits we already knew about. So in other words, it's important enough for the White House to completely stonewall on a judge's order.

Rep. Patrick Kennedy entering Rehab
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 10, 2006 -> 02:23 PM) But he's a Kennedy and that automatically counts for something. Which is why this has a thread and the Republican Congressman who got a DUI last year did not, as far as I know, have a thread of his own.

Your age by Chocolate.
Every number you pick comes out that way. Changing the number of times you want chocolate per week adds or subtracts 100 from the final number, and the 1756/1755 gets you the correct final 2 digits.

Why are managers reluctant to bring in their closers
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 10, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) completely hypothetical situation, right? The Twins have been money out of the pen in the past 5 years or so. I think Gardenhire is still going with the formula that he is accustomed to. Its different for every manager though. Consider Ozzie, he goes with the matchups(which infuriurates many around here), then think about Torre, who puts Mariano Rivera in if he has a lead in the ninth. Of course, Jason Isringhausen and Eric Gagne were known for coming in for the 2 inning save, and Izzy has not been the same since his 2nd year removed from Oakland, and Gagne's elbow is falling apart again. I dont think there is any real formula to it, I think managers go with their gut for the most part. Gagne may be the best reason you can possibly give for why managers are reluctant to bring their closers in for more than the 9th. Before Trading Mota, Gagne was in the middle of his gigantic saves streak, and he was only going 1 inning every time. Then they traded Mota, and basically had no setup man at all, so Gagne suddenly was pitching 2 innings, even 3 innings once for a save. All of a sudden, his save streak ended, and he wound up blowing out his arm. Yea you want the guy in when the game is on the line, but you also want the guy to stay healthy, not get overworked, and be ready to come out the next night.

AL Central Central
The greatest hitter in human history, Aaron Guile, gives the Royals back a 9-8 lead with a long one off of Mota. Angel Berroa follows with another solo shot 2 batters later. 10-8 K.C.

Rep. Patrick Kennedy entering Rehab
QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 10, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) Yasny is right if this was a Republican all the major networks would be all over this... there would be a 5 part installment of 'dateline NBC' in the works. Yeah, because last time a Republican Congressman was caught DUI, the media couldn't stop talking about it for weeks.

My God, Texas has some of the most frightening "Gameday" photos I've ever seen. Cleveland ties K.C. up on a Balk.

QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) Twins -Rangers tied at 1 in the bottom of 5 Twinkies up 3-1 in the 7th. Buck Showalter was thrown out for arguing balls & strikes.

Game of Shadows authors may face jail time
QUOTE(WCSox @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) As much as I dislike Bonds, leaking classified information is illegal. Journalists aren't above the law. The Journalist didn't do the leaking.

Back to knotted at 5-5. And that hard hitting Paul Bako makes it 6-5 K.C. 8-5 on a 2 run Kerry Robinson triple off of Mota.

Haeger
Right now, I just don't see a good spot for him on the ML roster. There's no one who's got the combination of minor league options left and poor enough numbers to justify holding him up barring another major injury. BMac, Logan, Jenks, and Cotts are probably the only ones in our bullpen who even have options left. Logan has the 2nd best ERA on our team right now (Thanks in part to other people), Cotts has come around, Jenks is 10/11 in saves, etc. Brandon's the only one who right now has had a bad time of late, and even he ain't going anywhere for Charlie. Charlie pitches 2 dynamite games and he may very well find himself starting for someone else's big league team within a month or two.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) Well, to be fair Cotts was really thrown to the wolves that day. At least Heager has the benefit of pitching at home, whereas Cotts had to throw against the best offense in the league, in the bronx. During a pennant chase...late in the season...after the Sox had won 2 in a row from the Yanks...

2006 Cy Young
QUOTE(bschmaranz @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) Nor Greg Maddox His ERA jumped to 3.64 after that shellacking by the Padres. Only 1 guy on that list for the NL has a higher ERA, and he's 5-1.

MLBPA can scrap new steroid agreement
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) What about 2008 and beyond?? Presumably, the 50 game suspension dies if there's no new agreement, and it would have to be in the next CBA for it to come back.

At least Haeger doesn't have to win with backups.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:27 PM) No Johann Santana? Huh? 3-3 Record, 3.69 ERA thus far. Don't worry, some people always show up. Mark will be up there, Johan will be up there, just give them time.

An ERA of 5.36 as a team while playing in a supposed pitcher's park in Cleveland? Yikez.

MLBPA can scrap new steroid agreement
Yeesh, every single way we turn, MLB is casually slipping loopholes into its steroid agreement. That would be one MIGHTY setback.
