  1. You know...now that I think about it...can anyone tell me why Blum wasn't bunting when Dye led off with a single?
  2. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) Isn't it obvious that Uribe is worthless? Is there anyone here who hasn't been waiting all year for Uribe to hit a hot streak like he did early last year?
  3. The guys on ESPN News said Konerko made the play too. Strangely, I think that BBTN got it right.
  4. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) I would rather have Borchard batting 5th at DH while hitting .200 than Timo at DH hitting .200. At least Borchard gets a homer now and again. I was about to say exactly the same thing. And at least on occasion, people might not want to pitch to Borchard. Anyone out there who thinks Timo can scare any other pitcher (except maybe Radke)? If we have 2 guys who are hitting .200, but for 1 guy, 1 out of those 2 hits per 10 at bats leaves the yard, that's not good, but it's better than .200 all on singles.
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:19 AM) A big knock on Contreras was that he doesn't handle pressure situations and big games good. Well he proved that theory wrong last night as well. Props to him, and we needed it. And this is only about 2 weeks after he had a similarly good outing against Boston.
  6. QUOTE(shakes @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 07:43 AM) I give him credit for nothing. He may change his tune in a week. There's only so many cubs suck stories to write. Actually...I think you'd be surprised about how many more of those can be and will be written before even this season is over. That's a team that on paper at the start of the year was good enough to challenge for the NL crown, and that was before Derek Lee started to run wild. You give Bobby Cox that exact team, with the exact same injuries, and I'll guarantee you he makes the world series.
  7. QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) You can look at the negative side and say we need to score more than 2 runs a game to beat the Yanks. Or you can look at the positive side and say we beat the Yanks in a game where we scored only 2 runs. I say look at the positive side. Without Everett, our offense seems pathetic. But we've won 3 of 5 scoring 2, 4, 3, 2, and 2 runs. I'd say that's the Sox team that started out the year on fire. Pitching, defense, and just enough O to win the game. GO SOX! We've also won 3 of 5 hitting worse than really is possible...we've been at like a .220 clip in August as a team. That simply won't hold up - like everything statistical in baseball, it all evens out. We'll have a stretch of 8 games where we'll hit .300, and suddenly our team average will be back to .260, which is where it's been all year.
  8. With a 1 run lead, I'd have been more annoyed if Politte came out there in the 9th. With a 2 run lead...and a sore Hermanson, I can't say I blame him. I just wish to God Damaso could throw a strike to a left hander. He's just outside every single time any more.
  9. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) Trotsky was later also Stalin's biggest opponent. And how did he wage war against the Christians? The Reds versus whites? and I thought the whites stood for all religious freedoms? I don't really get your point. His point is that Darwin was responsible for Hitler and Stalin and all the evil they did and therefore anyone who believes in evolution is equivalent to Hitler.
  10. I mainly use firefox, but it's starting to slide downhill as more people figure out how to make popups work in Firefox. The tabbed browsing is quite nice though.
  11. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) Maybe he was trying distract the Sox and forget about the bunt so that the Yanks could get on base. It almost worked.
  12. Day Game...on the road...Freddie pitching... Yankees...you're standing on the tracks and the train's coming through.
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) Not exactly correct. His last option was used when he was sent down after ST. However, that option remains in effect all year and he can be brought up and sent down as much as we want to. Here's all I want to ask... Most everyone here has given up on Joe Borchard. Can anyone here raise their hand and say "I would rather have Timo on this team than a struggling Borchard" and then tell me why?
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) I hope so, why the hell was Bobby warming up? Dustin usually gets up 1/2 inning before he comes in. Usually not beforehand.
  15. This is why we're a goddamned dangerous team. Thank you Clifford. Thank you.
  16. Well, it's Cliff versus Sheff...here we go...sit back and strap it down.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) Cotts has been lights out lately, while Cliff has not been as sharp as he was earlier in the year (hard to match though). Either way, one of them should have been starting the 8th inning. Ozzie has got to learn to trust our bullpen, for better or worse. He was facing Womack! There is no reason not to let Jose have the chance to get an easy out on a guy hitting .240 with no power.
  18. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) God damnit, it should be Neal. Clifford has shut down righties and lefties all year long better than Neal. In a 1 run game, I'll take my chances with Cliffy.
  19. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) I am just hoping since the offense isn't doing their job, hopefully the pitching will get it done. It has about 71 times this year.
  20. Womack is not a challenge. You don't bring in bullpen help for Womack. Not when your starter has started the inning with 96 pitches. You bring in help if he gets on before Jeter.
  21. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) Lack of offensive execution. Simple as that. 1 time this year Iguchi doesn't get a runner over to 3rd and suddenly he's the enemy.
  22. This will be the 22nd pitch to Iguchi in his last 2 at bats.
