  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) Probably McCarthy Personally, I am all for McCarthy starting every game until Duque gets back. Let him get experience, let him take his lumps, let him try and pitch through the struggles. We gave Garland a couple years to do that, and we're going to get a 12 game winner tonight out of our efforts.
  2. Dick Durbin has apologized for his remarks last week. I mostly still think he's right, but as John Stewart so eloquently put it...whoever mentions the Nazis first, loses.
  3. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) any word on when Orlando Hernandez will be ready to return? If he's not ready to go do you guys have any idea who will take the 5th starter role? IMO we should keep Cotts in the pen and not piece him into the starting rotation. I don't even think we know what the problem is with El Duque right now...he's ready to go one day, then not ready to go the next. I'm not surprised he needed a couple stints on the DL in the middle of the year. I still think he'll be back in place by the All Star break. And good God, right now we shouldn't even consider moving Cotts out of the pen. As dominant as he has been in that role...and given the fact that he's a lefty out of the pen, my God that's a luxury.
  4. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) Until we need a 5th starter, just go with a 4 man rotation. We only require one more start from B-Mac before the all-star break. Here is how it breaks down. ..... ALL STAR BREAK Everyone gets normal rest on this plan. I hated it when we did this last year. It worked for a time in May and early June, but by late June and July you could really see it wearing on our pitchers. Guys like Buehrle don't like that extra day off because it throws off their schedule, but it at least shows up in the results. When we came into this season with 5 starters, I was hoping to God we wouldn't have to pitch Mr. Offday as our 5th starter more than 1 or 2 times this season, because it would really start to wear on our staff if we did. It'd be an awful risk running with 4 starters until the AS Break. I promise you that. Especially if 2 or 3 of our guys end up being All Stars. Extra rest in June will translate to fresher pitchers come October.
  5. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) I haven't heard a lot of people giving up on him. I, for one, think no less of him. I think the consensus around here is that he simply looks like he isn't ready. He needs to get a better commond on his offspeed stuff and needs to keep the ball down. This can be seen in the alarming rate at which he's given up homers down in Charlotte. I've heard a ton of people around here giving up on him - saying we should trade him immediately because he'll never amount to anything or that ST was a fluke. I think those sorts of comments started immediately after the Texas game. My thought is that he needs to work on throwing his changeup as a strike, to take more pressure off of his fastball and curveball. If he does that i think he'll be what we saw in ST again. But I've heard quite a few people who've already given up on him.
  6. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) BARRY ZITO = Chicago bound, I have a feeling. If so, I hope to God KW gets a couple more relief pitchers along with him, because when Zito bombs in Chicago as badly as Koch did, we'll need there to be something akin to Cotts and Politte so that we can say "At least we didn't get completely screwed".
  7. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) I am still fuming since the time I learned it was the Cub in 1920 that wrecked the fortunes of my favorite team. One can only imagine what the history of our beloved White Sox would be had the dirty rotten Cub players not fixed that game in Aug of 1920. Do the White Sox go on to win the 1920 WS? Why the hell not? They were in the thick of the race at the time. Does shoeless Joe Jackson go on to be one of the greatest players of all time. Why the hell not? One might argue the scandal would have re-emerged any way but that would be ignoring the timing of this whole thing. If the Cub players don't fix that game in late Aug & the WS go on to win the 1920 WS they become the media darlings. It's even conceivable to imagine that we might be the most storied franchise in MLB & not the Yankees if that Cub game isn't fixed. Just because we might not have been caught doens't mean that we didn't deserve what we got when we did.
  8. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) The McCarthy we saw yesterday is not ready for the show or big league hitters. The McCarthy we saw in spring training is definitely ready for both of those things. The difference between these two McCarthys? A good changeup that he throws often and can locate and the location of his fastball. McCarthy is afraid to throw his change for some reason, as he only threw it once last night. It was effective the time he did throw it, so I don't know why he wouldn't continue throwing it. Also, he's throwing his fastball too high a lot of the time, and it's not the same pitch as the one that is low in the zone. His curveball is the only pitch that appears the same as the one that he threw in the spring, and it was effective when he threw it, but he didn't throw it very much either. I'm not sure if he's scared to throw anything but the fastball or what, but I think the coaching staff should find a way to force him to throw his offspeed pitches more often, because I think it would lead to better success than he's had thus far. I thougth I saw him try to throw it a couple of times and miss the strike zone badly.
  9. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) Is eric milton the king of letting homeruns up? Or is that somebody else. Yes, that's Milton.
  10. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) i dont think we are going to be getting an ace pitcher even though there are a handful out there who we could get, i picture a low profile guy like brandon backe or kip wells, or maybe eric milton Why the Hell would we want to stick Eric Milton, a guy who can't keep the ball in the park in Cincinnati, into the Cell against DHs?
  11. Does this mean BMac will be facing the Tigers or will he be skipped entirely?
  12. If they're reporting it and its a fact, that's good news - it'll mean we finally split up the 2 Cubans in the rotation. Very good news for our bullpen.
  13. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:38 PM) RF, and I think Burnitz will win if it's not fixed. Sadly, our efforts have probably motivated more cub fans to try to find other people or computers to vote from in order to try to catch us.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) lets do it then, what position is next? Right field...Dye versus Burnitz? That's actually a moderately fair fight probably going to our side just a little bit. Run it as an actual fair fight and encourage people to vote? At least for a few hours to see how it runs?
  15. I doubt many SUV Drivers have the money to buy those things after they fill up the gas tanks for the 3rd time in the week. It'll get even worse too.
  16. I hate to say this, but I almost wish you guys had just left 1 position open so that we could see how actual voting would come out. Even if it was just Third base, so that we could see how many people actually voted Crede over Ramirez.
  17. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) Never we're the White Sox . When we cause bigger riots in Chicago than the Bulls did.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) I don't know if you've been paying attention, but Everett is probably a better fielder than Pods and Dye. Pods has the speed on him, no doubt, but Everett has been very solid this year. Pods is the worst at picking up the ball off the bat. It has absolutely blown my mind how a person with Podsednik's speed could be so slow to get to a ball. I'd say his first step is in the wrong direction more than 1/2 the time. Someone needs to get his arse out in left field and start hitting fly balls that way. Hundreds of them.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) Understood, but thats not going to be the case. We are the team that people love to hate. We are the fans that get no respect. We are the team that is going to have to prove we are good. And thats fine, no coverage is better than what they are doing now. The cubs will be the loveable team until they blow up even more than they are now. When they flop, and the fans start bailing, then you will see an interest. We are the best team in baseball, nobody likes us because of that. f*** em It worked for Detroit last year in the NBA.
  20. QUOTE(ISF @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) Likewise, any suggestion that Joe Crede is better than Randa offensively is a joke. We have large sample sizes on both that are pretty indicative of what production you can expect from each. Randa wins going away. The best thing I've read about this was 1 simple fact; each player can expect roughly 300 more at bats this season. If a player hits .290, he will have roughly 12 more hits than a guy who hits .250. That is all. 12 hits are not worth whatever price we'd have to pay in prospects. They just aren't.
  21. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) Cleveland is a team of streaks... Their streak will run out.. Minnesota is always a proven threat, but not this year.. SOX WIN The White Sox were the prime example of a team of streaks for the last 2 years. Hitting gets hot, then hitting gets cold. This is why Ozzie kept saying that Speed doesn't go into slumps. They face 2 good pitchers in a row and suddenly everyone's pressing because they've only scored a couple runs, and then bam, losing streak. We face a couple of good pitchers and we take 1 out of 2 because we outpitch them, bunt a couple people over, and get some clutch hits. The Indians have that streaky mantle this year. I think the Yankees are an even better example too.
  22. Zito is not a dominant lefty, nor has he been one in the last 2 years. Think about him as an Esteban Loaiza who throws left handed and who was good for slightly longer. His fastball has dropped considerably. His control is not as good as it was. Schmidt at least has an excuse - he's been hurt, he could recover. Zito...I don't see him ever being a Cy Young candidate again.
  23. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) I just looked at their power rankings and I'm not sure how they can put washington as #1.. Yeah espn does seem to underappreciate the record of the sox. I am sick and tired of the yanks and bosox.., but what can you do? ESPN's power rankings seem to pick whoever is the hottest good team at the time. When the Sox were 5-5 in 1 ten game stretch, the Cards took over the top spot. If nothing else...remember, the ESPN Interactive power rankings poll has never had the Sox anywhere but the top spot since the Dodgers streak to start the y ear ended.
  24. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) I don't understand sitting Aaron Rowand in the middle of his RBI streak. I'm sorry, but watching Everett in the outfield is horrible. I would almost feel better if Timo was over there. Plus, I believe that Ozuna played a decent LF when covering for Posednik early in the year. It's the only way to get Everett into 2 games out of every 3 game series. Face it, as long as both are healthy, Thomas and Everett each are going to play 2 out of every 3 games. This means Everett will DH once, and he will play the outfield once. And it's a setup I honestly can't complain about. We need both of those bats to get regular playing time. I think it's a decent idea to rotate who Everett subs for every series - 1 series he subs for Dye, the next he subs for Pods, the next he subs for ArRow. Keeps everyone's legs fresh, keeps everett in 66% of our games, and keeps Frank in the lineup. And it also makes Timo that much more expendable.
  25. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) Greinke is usually solid verses us, but look at the offense he's had behind him and you see the 1-7 record.. This might turn out to be a good pitchers duel I think that his 5.97 ERA hasn't helped out his offense much either.
