  1. Because even if he can only get $175 million guaranteed, that's $175 million guaranteed.
  2. Now here's my real tricky question. The next time you say you heard something from a source, will you also add the caveat "This source was wrong about the last thing they told me".
  3. That's really not a scoop that's just something we've heard since the start, that they weren't enthused about spending big money on him and that his WS/comments didn't help with that org. We heard that back in november. And it still might not be true.
  4. I knew the latter but with guys that were drafted last summer the rankings are often all over the map, Madrigal outside of Law's top 100 and in the top 50 elsewhere for example. Thanks for the feedback.
  5. Because it makes them the center of attention for a while.
  6. If you ranked him against India which one would be considered a better get for the Marlins?
  7. For those who know other systems better - if the Dodgers wanted to beat an offer involving India, would there be any way for them to do it without Verdugo?
  8. The 2014 White Sox lost 89 games, coming off a 99 loss season in 2013, 3 teams finished 2014 above .500 including the wild card team that went to the world series, Joey Votto was a 6 win player as recently as 2017 and 3.5 last year, Scooter Ginnett was a 4.5 win player in 2018, Eugenio Suarez was a 3.9 win player. So yeah, you're right, the White Sox had 1 fewer team in front of them. A couple strong pieces, a bunch of mediocre pieces, and the same assumptions that they were better than they were on paper.
  9. They're also not naive enough to believe that they can post something vague without an army of people jumping to the conclusion that something is about to happen...so when one of them posts open eyeballs or the other one says "They get things done on wednesday", they know how that's going to read.
  10. They're doing basically the same thing the White Sox did in 2015 and 2016.
  11. What they're in with, it seems like it's at least respectable enough for them to get into the conversation, and they certainly were not there in late December when he did his tour, so if he had signed then - the Padres would not have joined in.
  12. Didn't that basically happen if the Padres just recently joined in?
  13. I think we can promise they will. Not just because they're worse, but also because there's a big gap between positions 5 and 6 right now.
  14. Remember, the odds of the top pick are now exactly the same for the team with the worst, 2nd worst, and 3rd worst records. The differences are in the odds for the later picks. They leveled the odds out a lot, so there's very little difference between 1st and 3rd, or even 1st and 5th.
  15. He might not have been ready for that one but the best answer he could have given was "Our fans will be happy if we put a championship team on the field, we do feel Machado can be a part of that but our fans will not be satisfied until we reach that goal".
  16. He also specifically said he wants to go somewhere where "He can compete for a title every year".
  17. Hahn is doing what he has to do - sounding positive and not desperate on a day following Soxfest when the local media will give him time to be on the air.
  18. I think they're a couple games better pre-Eloy, almost every move was a lateral move but their bullpen is deeper.
  19. Well, the Anthony Davis trade saga is about to begin and the Bulls are clearly not even remotely a threat for him.
  20. Had to do the 47 page scrollback just to bump this.
  21. Some people have speculated that the Dodgers would take a deal for less than he's actually worth to avoid sending him to a team they'd have to compete with.
  22. At this point, we've got "lots of white sox players are reaching out to him according to their statements at Soxfest", and "The Padres have come in with an offer, potentially a strong one."
  23. Honestly, deep down? I do. I'm waiting for them to prove me wrong.
  24. Maybe $350 million over 10 with an opt out somewhere, perhaps 4 years so that its the year right after the lockout? What do you think? If I was in Lozano's chair that would have been close to my initial ask.
