  1. FWIW, as a matter of making baseball moves here everything you've said about them already having a number of outfielders is right, and the money still doesn't add up if they actually want to stay out of the tax just yet, but if I were in their shoes I'd probably be willing to make exceptions for the right player to every one of those.
  2. FWIW, The Dodgers were about $14 million under the tax line before this deal, so counting the $7 million they're sending along with these 3 players, all of whom are on 1 year deals, if they want to stay beneath the tax they can't sign anyone with an average value over $33 million unless they make other moves.
  3. At the very least - this pretty much verifies that the reports "Machado has made up his mind he's going to sign with the Yankees/Phillies" that we saw yesterday, those reports are simply false. He's going to weigh each offer, see if they shift, talk to family, etc, and even if he has a preference, it's not open and shut.
  4. No I don't believe Burger will ever be our 3b. However, I also note that Mike Moustakas was worth 2.4 fWAR last year, while Yolmer Sanchez was worth 1.7, and do not believe that is a significant enough difference to really believe that we'd be getting improvement worth our money, especially when you factor in the ages of each player.
  5. here's the raw text from the CBA, the important phrase for your question is the first:
  6. If the Dodgers send out money then that money does in fact count against the Dodgers for luxury tax accounting purposes. It is also spread evenly over the remainder of the deal they send out.
  7. Yes he makes more sense for us as a return but he's also a worse overall match since moving him solves 0 of the dodgers issues other than lack of a 25 man roster spot.
  8. Hence the "Right now". Stranger things have happened than a strong 3b appearing, but having to plug that hole will be tough enough that I'd expect something to go wrong with the scenario you just posed.
  9. Why would the Dodgers move him, just to clear a roster spot? He's only Arb-1 this year so he's not going to save them much money if he's moved. I'm not particularly sure that Taylor for Rodon is a good matchup, and I certainly wouldn't want to trade anyone from the minors in a deal like that.
  10. F*** that we're drafting 3rd overall draft the best player available and if they need 4 years to make their debut I don't care. Every time we've thought a guy was a fast riser pushing them fast has been a terrible idea anyway. BPA and I don't care if he's a multi-year college catcher or a high school stud.
  11. It'll also be much harder to field a championship caliber team if we don't have a 5+-win 3b available, and we do not have such a person in our organization right now.
  12. Hell if Moncada wasn't a reason to stay away from a 2b then guys who aren't even in the bigs aren't reasons to stay away from a 1b. The only reason to stay away from him is if you think there's a better value/bet available at the 3rd draft pick than that particular first baseman. As with Moncada and Madrigal, if the former guy seizes the position and the next guy breaks out and is on the cusp of the big leagues, then worst case scenario you have yourself a ton of trade value.
  13. The good news is we got the Harper threads to die down and the Machado thread to be active for a week!
  14. I would have much more of a problem with Machado insisting that he needs to play a certain position where he's not really all that good than I would with him not running out a popup.
  15. His Range was what really hurt him in the advance stats - it was the worst of any qualifying shortstop per FG out of 22.
  16. This sounds like you're threatening the health of Zion and Carter.
  17. Is there actually going to be another WBC? IIRC people were talking during the last one about it not happening again.
  18. Apparently the cuban league could use the money for facilities updates that they've been gradually less able to do as more of their stars have defected.
  19. Presumably you mean "The last in Chicago", because the Raiders are getting a fortune from Las Vegas. The previous governor of Wisconsin dismantled higher education in that state so that he could afford a better stadium for the Bucks for some reason.
  20. That's exactly why they wound up with ARoid. Aaron Boone was out for a season so they figured why not.
  21. Their offense wouldn't need to carry them as much as it would need to "Score in the 20s to give them a chance". If the Bears D gives up 30+ fine, then the Rams/Saints offense has just done its job and they won the big matchup. The Bears offense just needs to perform well enough.
  22. With Reddick already in that lineup, I wonder if that means they're ready to trade Kyle Tucker for pitching.
