QUOTE(SoxnGiants @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) I think Detroit is False & Boston is True. I think Detroit was 2 games up on us at teh break, I'm just guessing about Boston. Yeah, I meant August 1, and edited to reflect that. I know we were only 2-2.5 back of detroit at the break. Don't forget that Detroit is in NY next week and we have the potential to make up 2 or 3 games on them right there.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) The concern isn't that the Sox are only 1.5 games back of the WC race; the concern is that they have been slipping further and further back since the ASB now, and aside from a few flashes of brilliance, have shown no signs of turning it around. Unless Minn. and Detriot completely fall apart, the Sox' current level of play will lead to some golf outings in early October. True or false - The White Sox have gained ground on these two teams since Aug 1: 1) Detroit 2) Boston

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Okay i had a night to sleep on this horrible loss. I feel alittle better. You have to look at the possitives going right now. Detroit is slumping. So we are STILL just 5.5 games back of Detroit. So a win today and another Detroit loss just means we are just .5 games back of the WC AND just 4.5 games behind Detroit. If Detroit wasn't crapping the bed so badly right now, things would look significantly more grim. I'm certainly not conceding until mid-september, and only if we are 7-8 games back of a playoff spot at that point. I wonder if fans of every team quit so easily on their team when they are 1.5 games out of a playoff spot in August I guess we need a "Anyone who thinks that this team can catch Minnesota is crazy" fanclub.

f*** I have to go to a movie now

Juan is going to win this game right here.

I will gladly eat some of that crow too, fathom

How are all these people still in this thread? Several of you just proclaimed the game and the season over not 10 minutes ago.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) I don't care about how Boston played them. The Twins dominate those teams because their bullpen holds every late lead they have. O RLY
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) Check the twins team ERA and then take a glance at ours. true or false, that team ERA includes Liriano's stats

QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) then you my friend live in fantasy land I'm really not sure how people really put that much stock in Boof Bonser, Carlos Silva and a 1-armed Brad Radke. I just don't get it.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) That's BOSTON! This was just before they came to Chicago and almost swept us, when they were on their hottest tear of the season. Is my point hitting home quite yet?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) You know whats irrational. Watching our pitching over the first 3/4s of a season and then stating remarks like this. I would say that the Tigers feel better about their playoff chances than the 3rd place whitesox. What besides your gut feel and whitesox hat tells you that the crappy pitching over the first 3/4 of a season is an illusion, and our team is just going to flip a switch and poof they will make it. I base my feelings on watching the whitesox over the course of a lifetime, not just reviewing the Comcast WS video from last year. Just because Freddy Garcia stood on the mound in last years game in a 1-0 win, doesnt mean that 88 mph Freddy is the same guy. Contreras is a shadow of last years guy. Politte is gone, Hermy is not here. Eject the DVD and move back into reality with the rest of us. If they win great, however to expect them to win against a guy who has owned them like no other closer has owned them is wishful thinking at best. It defies logic. I don't expect them to win tonight I don't expect them to win tomorrow This does not affect my perception of their playoff chances I do not believe that Boof Bonser, Carlos Silva and a 1-armed Brad Radke are noticably more effective than any of our three starters over the long haul. Sorry.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) For the Sox it is...the Twins typically handle medicore teams. That's one of the main reasons it's always been so hard to catch them when we fall behind them late in the season. Boston lost 3 of 4 at Tropicana, and the Rays are over .500 at home this year.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) It is? Not really...it's actually very easy. Half of their games are against KC, Balt, TB, and Cleveland. Sox fans, of all people, should know that @Tampa Bay is about a country mile more difficult than vs. Tampa Bay.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) That excuse doesn't fly as Gload has been one of our best hitters tonight what about last night?
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) So how long are we going to be on this "streak"?? what streak? we have played .500 ball over our last 20 games against the toughest competition we will face all year, and we are without our f***ing DH this series. just out of curiosity, has anyone even cared to take a peek at Minnesota's september? It is absolutely brutal.
-
it just doesn't make any sense whatsoever to make generalized, idiotic presumptions with over 30 games left in the regular season it is absolutely irrational, there is just no other way to put it baseball is an extremely streaky game, and 30 games is well more than enough for fortunes of an entire division to change ask the tigers how they're feeling about their playoff chances after going 5 for their last 18
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) Dont you have a post game show to get ready for. Quitting in the eighth inning of a game in August is honestly beyond belief, even for the Chicken Little fans that populate this website.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) Ballgame. Season. Ova. this attitude is so disgusting and embarrassing.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) MODS, PLZ, CAN WE JUST DELETE THIS SERIES see now, that's actually funny
-
*whew* now I can rest easy knowing we still have no chance
-
I'm totally confused here, I thought we had no chance against Santana Can someone please explain?
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) I thought you wanted this board closed? Why are you still on it? apparently someone needs a refresher course in sarcasm
-
this must be some sort of mistake, somehow the tying run is at the plate Oh I get it... the forfeit has to be handed in from SECOND BASE that must be why this game is still going on
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) OMG a baserunner? We're right back in it! I thought you already gave up on this game, what are you still doing in this thread
