  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) (Note: Injured Konerko was the guy putting up that production). um...
  2. some weird things to note team is 16-9 over the last 25 since the Rays series - .640 ball - but it seems as though we're choking the division away because the Tigers are a ridiculous 17-4 over their last 21 and the twins are 14-3 over their last 17... Thank god they play each other 7 times over the next 13 - SOMEBODY has to lose.
  3. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) did he necessarily mean the offense though? In the context of how he originally brought the point up the previous half-inning, yes.
  4. I love how Hawk was just trying to put it on the offense that they didn't "go for the jugular" by putting more than 8 runs up how about gascan contreras doesn't just give up home run after home run
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) Nice try. They are obviously capable of making a run, as their offense is pretty good and they just swept us, but it doesn't change the cold hard fact they they were 11 games under .500 and barely out of the cellar 72 hours ago. Are the Tigers your normal 11 (well now 8) games under .500 team? Of course not, they don't suck. Doesn't change the fact that being swept by them is inexcuseable, especially when you only gave up two runs in one of the games. Teams get swept by other teams on the road. Long, extended losing streaks happen to world series winning teams. Check out the 05 Sox's August record. I believe they were something like 9-19. This is 3 games - let's be real. If they so much as even split the next six games I'm going to START to get concerned.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) Oh I agree with that. I actually thought we'd have a lot of trouble in this series, I just wanted one win going in. The thing that makes so frusterating is we should have at least got that win with the way Buehrle pitched today. Again, you're willing to acknowledge the team performed exactly 1 game worse than your expected value of this series...
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Yes because it's too much to ask to not get swept by a team 11 under on the road. Either that 11 under team is in no danger of making a run, or that 11 under team is not really an 11 under team. You can't have it both ways. Either Detroit is bad and it's incomprehensible that the Sox could lose this series, or Detroit is better than their record, capable of an extended run and it's understandable how the Sox could get swept.
  8. food for thought... before this series we were 19-6 in the previous 25 21-7 vs. the central division and 28-15 in our previous 43 against detroit - going back through 2006 can anyone say untenable statistical anomaly EXPLO-SHUN with those stats in mind, the expected value of this series was 1 win and 2 losses. At best, I thought it might be 2 wins and 1 loss, but I thought 1-2 was way more realistic is anyone honestly saying that because we performed 1 game worse than the expected value that the outlook suddenly drastically changes?
  9. I'm thinking of a certain four game sweep at Cleveland in July 2005, coming off the all star break, to extend a division lead to 15, and how that really finished them off... Season's long guys...
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) We're not laughably bad, but the notion that we are a good team is pretty laughable right now. People can make all the excuses they want, but Detroit has been mediocre/bad and asleep all year, and we woke them up in 3 days. You can't do that, period. Firstly, and I'm not saying the Sox are a world-killer, but world series winning teams get swept by subpar teams at times during a 162-game schedule, particularly on the road. Secondly, Detroit is a talented team with essentially the same core that won an AL pennant two years ago and competed for the division last year. Is it more likely that they are a team that plays at the level they have played for the previous 60 games or the preceding 340 games? Lastly, we have been RED HOT against the Tigers in general, even last year when we were 72-90 we OWNED them, and we were due to get swept up there. If this losing streak hits 8, or they lose something like 15 of 20, then I'd be worried. For now, be thankful we had a little cushion. Even 100 game winning teams still lose 38% of their games....
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) If we win this series, it's 11 or 14 games. Even if we win today it's 10, which is why I say the last 3 days could prove to be our doom by late September, unless of course Cleveland wakes up and that is what gets us. I had so much hope going into this series that maybe we were actually a very good team, but that is a laughable notion now. because we all know 3 games defines whether you are a very good team or a laughably bad team.
  12. oddly enough, I'm annoyed but not really worried at this point. I would've been way more concerned had we gotten dominated by the twins. We were sort of due for a bad series. That all said, we need to dominate against two bad NL teams at the Cell.
  13. if we sweep detroit, they're done. before the 3 game losing streak which caused Ozzie's tirade - the team had really gotten on his nerves by going a mere 12-3 in the previous 15 games you know I could see how a manager could've been so fed up
  14. 19-6 over their last 25 games - and if I'm not mistaken, 3 of the 6 losses came in the final at bat or extra innings. That's f***ing ludicrous!
  15. first thing you should look at is WHIP when evaluating a pitcher
  16. anyone else sick of farmer asking stone if he sends the runners on every single pitch do you send em here? what about here? what about here? ok, how bout now?
  17. I tried to find numbers on ESPN.com but couldn't find any. Was curious as to how attendance is stacking up this season...
  18. to be honest the most important thing for the White Sox right now is winning their next series with Minnesota. 2-2 is what I'm hoping for, 1-3 wouldn't be the end of the world, 3-1 would be unbelievable. Obviously 4-0 or 0-4 are hard to imagine.
  19. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ May 28, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) CARLOS QUENTIN IS MY GOD
  20. actually we are still looking way, way, way better than I ever thought we would going into this season once the hitting straightens itself out, I only hope the pitching doesn't come back to earth tbh to me this team looked like garbage on paper and I'm not sure how anyone figured otherwise (or thought that the relatively hot start wasn't a mirage)
  21. so that means what we pick it back up in the 12th or do we start it over? what are the rules about this?
