Laughable. I'm all for Alexei's success and believe he will be great for us, but what he's done has essentially amounted to a Juan Uribe hot streak with home runs being replaced by singles and doubles. Should Alexei be playing right now? Hell yes, you play your hot hand. Give him time to show he can withstand an MLB season. At the moment, it sure looks like he can and will, but funnier things have happened. Juan's regular AB's are most likely over with the Sox. As a fan of his, bummer, but it's nice to see him raise his average 15 points despite this with pinch hit ABs and infrequent starts. But about the regular AB's being over with...thank God, because who the f*** needs a gold glove shortstop who can also bring 20 HRs 80 RBI to the table.

You say a lot of good things in there. I tend to agree with you on most points. Another thing, remember how Juan came out of the gates in 04'. Anyone remember the Montreal game where he had 7 rbi in a losing effort?

Alexei is definately the man now but Juan's two plays in the 9th inning in Houston are going to be playing on repeat if I ever get to heaven

probably the greatest defensive play I've ever seen in a World Series game, everything considered, and it's probably second in the postseason to Endy Chavez's catch a couple years ago to save a 2-run shot, even though it didn't really mean much in the end because the Mets still lost.

 

Still, that 9th inning was a thing of beauty.

For me the throw on the last out was more impressive. Not many people in baseball can make that play

Uribe's numbers have trended down for the last 4 years, and he hasn't always been the most consistent defender, so I'm cool with replacing him. But you do have to give him his props for the 2005 season - he kept us alive in that Cleveland extra inning game (Crede's homer game) with a fabulous play in the hole, and the next time you watch the WS clincher, look at the 8th inning. Uribe made a great play to end that inning, saving a run, that gets overlooked with his 9th inning heroics.

But this is 2008, and now, I wouldn't want anyone other than Alexi out there.

 

I don't think any of us will ever forget what Uribe, Pods, and the entire 2005 team did for us in the World Series, it will always be something that brings a smile to our faces. That said, it has nothing to do with 2008. Since 05, Uribe has been on a downward slide, both offensively and defensively, meanwhile, we have a younger, quicker, smarter Alexi who seems to be getting better by the day...

Rooney's call was better. I'm so happy I taped the am1000 broadcast. I got the World Series dvds and all that, but it's the cassette recordings of the home call that give me the chills if I ever listen to them.

Eraser Head almost sounded like he was rooting AGAINST the Sox in the WS. There seemed to be a complete lack of enthusiasm on his part whenever the Sox won a game. His "moral outrage" directed towards Randy Moss' fake moon of Packers fans in the '04 playoffs was ridiculous as well.
