QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) MLB Hot Stove is reporting that Andrew Jones will be released by the Dodgers on Thursday. I have to think KW will take the chance with him at league minimum and hope Walker can fix him. If he is a malcontent or just plain sucks, then cut him loose. Hot Stove showed film of him looking slim and fit and broke down differences in his batting stance in LA vs. Atlanta. KW might have to have one of his interns track down Boras's number and have Hahn call him. Jones was poison at his previous salary. He is a low risk high reward at league minimum and the Sox do not have CF nailed down just yet. Why would Andruw Jones receive league minimum? That sounds rediculous to me no matter how bad he has sucked the last two years. Has his stock really dropped that much?

The excitement around this news is a joke. I love colon as much as the next guy, but in what way does this put us over the top? I think everyone here is just happy we did something.

I'm proud to say i was not fooled when i saw the title of the thread, unlike on april fool's day where I told three people about the trade only to later find out it was april first.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 05:48 AM) You mean like the 22-year old "bust" that is Homer Bailey? Alpha's got a point. Everybody b****es and moans yet can't come up with anything better. Everybody hates Jerry Owens. Fine. Chone Figgins? Nope. Not good enough. Willy Taveras when he was available? Nope. He can't hit HRs. He sucks. Bobby Abreu? Nope. His defense sucks. Not good enough. When will people realize that Grady Sizemore types ARE NOT AVAILABLE?! Either be content with Jerry Owens or find another damn team to root for.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 03:27 AM) this is the strangest looking franchise QB list I have ever seen ok lets trade forte for tom brady
-
well who out there do you think the bears can get that is a quarterback to build a franchise around? I think there will be some good options. Off the top of my head I'm thinking Orton, Mcnabb, Cassel, Thigpen, chris simms. any other better names out there? I like mcnabb, hopefully he doesn't win the superbowl this year
-
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) Yeah, that reasoning makes no sense. Hostetler had a good few seasons then got paid to be mediocre in Oakland(and he didnt beat out Simms, Simms got injured, when Hostetler left for Oakland Simms reclaimed his job and went 11-5). There was nothing franchise quality about him, he was a decent quarterback, not one you build a franchise around. I think you are wrong in some areas of the story with hostetler and simms, but I don't think you need a spectacular quarterback to build a franchise around, just a decent and consistent one. I think mediocre can be described about grossman and orton, although orton looks like he could get better.
-
what are we talking about here? Flukey superbowl wins or whether or not someone was/is a quality quarterback? Because, for example, jeff hostetler probably had a flukey superbowl win after simms got injured, but he had to play behind simms for 5 years, and then eventually beat simms out of a job, so hostetler was definitely a quarterback who is much more of a franchise quarterback than orton or grossman are.
-
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) I just want to know who the hall of fame/franchise QBs are on this list, because the back half is loaded with flukeys Plus, isnt the definition of a fluke basically a 1 and done? What are you trying to say? that ben reothlisberger, steve young, peyton manning, eli manning, mark rypien, jeff hostetler, and kurt warner are flukes?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 07:14 PM) Put me in the camp of this team sucks, and will continue to suck, until Lovie and his crew are run out of town. Three games proved to me this year that Lovie can not coach: 1) Atlanta - how on earth you allow your team to give up a 25-30 yard out pattern, the only possible play to lose that game, is beyond me. 2) Tampa Bay - not to outdo himself, Lovie also allowed his team to give up a 99 yard drive with Brian Freakin' Griese throwing something like 400 passes in one game (thanks to some bone-head personal foul penalties) 3) Detroit - we go so f'n lucky to win this game it wasn't even funny. I bet we were the only team out of 16 to be that close to losing to the worst team in NFL history. Of course this doesn't include 3 out of the last 4 games, which were won in the last 5 seconds of the game thanks to some EXTREMELY lucky defense and special teams plays. And for me, what made it all worse was Lovie's annoying non-chalant style of "well, we made some mistakes, we look forward to next week." Has the guy ever scolded a player? Or does he just look at the scoreboard with a blank face to find out if what just happened is real? The "experts" at the beginning of the season had this team pegged perfectly. They are/were, at best, a 7 win team that got extremely lucky with its schedule and with some blown plays on the other side of the ball. LOL hilarious
-
theres no way you can say their schedule was easy. Were not in a weak division, but I'd call it average. Then outside the division you had Carolina, Tampa Bay, Philly, Indi, Tennessee, Atlanta, and New Orleans. 5 of those teams are playoff teams, and the ones that aren't were pretty good clubs.

haha oh man I've got to get my life together. my brains not workin so good right now. I guess i meant to write aisle.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 05:29 PM) Was this in the Caribbean or something? those are the only details i have, the rest are mixed up in a pile of beer hops and bong resin.

now that my hangover has worn off, I'll say that the bears are ok.
-
Houston is only part of what I'm looking at. When the bears were faced with a quality opponent the defense stood out as a big flaw. I will say that I give the bears credit for hanging in there with a pretty tough schedule, but they wouldn't have faired well in the playoffs at all.

maybe suck is getting thrown around a little too loosely, but for my standards, they suck.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) Mike Brown is a free agent. Yes, but he'll probably get another incentive filled 1 year contract.
