  1. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 07:43 AM) Alot is Williams fault, as far as the top 5 pick next year Sox will NOT spend top dollar on a big signing bonus and will draft the most signable guy period and cry about financial restraint! I disagree completely. I think you'll see the Sox draft the best available player. They're in rebuilding mode now and the money they save over the next 3-5 years on the big league payroll I'm certain will be plowed into the farm system. JR likes to make money. He made a lot of it off the 2005 World Series.

    Ozzie +5

Going into tonight's game, the Sox's expected win total based upon runs scored vs. runs given up was 43.
  3. Buehrle Dye Contreras Garland Thome Iguchi Mackowiak Thornton McDougal
  4. Look at this roster. Filled with bad players and aging players. It's not the manager or general manager's fault. We all knew that they'd have to rebuild at some point and Guillen and Williams deserve the opportunity to head this rebuilding project based on winning a World Championship.

    LMAO

The team needs to be rebuilt and that's ok. I don't understand the angst. Be glad their tanking before the trade deadline. Done properly they can get a decent bounty of prospects and have roughly $50M to spend this offseason.
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 12:16 AM) Not anymore. KW ignored the bullpen after 2005 and while I give him credit for at least doing something, went cheap on it after it showed its weaknesses in 2006. He is paying the price now. The only way to build a bullpen is on the cheap. That's because relievers aren't consistent year-to-year and if they're bad they need to be replaced ASAP. Impossible to replace a reliever who just signed a 3y/$15M free-agent contract for example.
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) wrong? lol. I'll use the Twins for example... They have a collective total of 9 homers, but 168 singles (not counting doubles or triples). So please tell me how I am wrong when I say there are more triples and doubles and singles then there are home runs? There are more HR's than triples, but maybe you've stumbled upon what's wrong with the Sox offense. Maybe it's not that they are trying to hit homers, maybe they're making outs by way overusing their "triple swing".
  8. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) There are more singles, doubles, and triples then home runs. Wrong.
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) I see a couple of you mention Anderson. What the heck did he do in the game that was real bad? He dogged it going after a single toward the line in left and made his usual terrible throw to second that turned a single into a double.
  10. QUOTE(chisox72 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) We aren't talking about last year, now are we?? They also won the division, didn't they? Are you suggesting that the Sox would have won the division if only they scored LESS runs than the Twins last year?
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) You would of loved our O pre 2005 then. It was near the league lead in homers, runs scored and no playoffs. Again the tale of 2 halves. Pre-allstar we scored 520 runs good for first in baseball. That was all world there. We had a team .288BA. In the 2nd half we were scored only 328 runs. Which was behind the Royals. But again chicks dig the long ball. If you are so for this approach, lets bring back Jose Valentin, maybe we can dig Rob Deer out of retirement. And go with a team hitting .240-.250 and hitting 200 homers and we will win about 75 games this year. If you want to construct a team of line drive hitters that's one thing, but to expect this Sox team to become that is folly. That's not they way they were built. By the way off the top of my head, the Sox have faced Sabathia twice, Santanna, Harden, Verlander Millwood, and Robertson so far this season. That's pretty tough and that they are where they are so far is a pretty good sign, imo.
  12. QUOTE(chisox72 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) I am really hoping you aren't serious.... But in the event that you are...here is your evidence... two words... Minnesota Twins Take a look at their record, average, OBP, and the # of HR's they have as a team. Their whole approach is base hits by driving the ball, adjusting to each pitcher, and guys that SHOULD suck getting hits... They Twins were 8th in the league in runs scored last year, the Sox were third.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) Power numbers look good. 4th in the AL in Dongs. Ah yet the bat on the ball thing isnt working. Last in batting average Dead last in singles Here is what I call the line drive stat. Line drives down the line, and in the gaps are doubles. Dead last in doubles Sure they are just going for a line drive approach. The endless popups are just are imagination. And for the proof that the line drive approach is better. We 2nd to last on scoring runs. Scoring more runs than your opponent is still the way you win the game, unless they changed it on us. They were third in the league last year in runs scored using the same exact approach.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) Sure this team is known for its line drive approach, and not going for the dong. Oh BTW water is pink, the sky is orange and Ozzie loves Brian. Provide evidence that a line drive approach is better.
  15. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:06 PM) I wish we had a hitting coach and hitters who knew that line drives and going with the pitch is more effective then uppercut pull swings. Provide evidence of this please.
