No Trades?
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Just settle down and think positively. How does it matter if I think positively or not? It's the team I am worried about. I don't know if we're watching the same team but the Sox I've been watching look tired and could have used some help in a few areas. Whether I am positive or not won't help the team's chances.

No Trades?
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) ok? and our record is horrible this year? No but we aren't the front runners to get a spot in the post season. We had some holes to fill and did nothing to address them.

No Trades?
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) Did you say the same thing last year when all we did was get Blum? And again when Cleveland was catching us? THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!!! We had the best record in baseball.

Well at least they won't be so distracted on the field. They'll probably win 35 straight now.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Please please please trade javy Kenny. Please. Perhaps if we all simultaneously prayed it would work. I'm willing to try anything at this point.- MLB Trade Deadline Thread 7/31
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) 29 minutes left before we realize the horror that the team will still be the same, and our pitching is still the same. HAWK: "I'll tell you what fiesty. Sometimes the best trade is the one that wasn't made. I'll take our chances with our horses." DJ: "I'm right there with you partner."- MLB Trade Deadline Thread 7/31
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) It seems that everyone in baseball has figured out that Vazquez is overrated. I still don't think we'll be able to get rid of him in the offseason without having to take very little in return. Addition by subtraction.- music
For any techno fans here is a link to a mix that I just made. The link has a tracklist as well. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LN8AXRQ5- Grinder Bash feedback

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) Fudge For real. Can't wait to hear Hawk tonight say how it would have been stupid to make any moves as this team will be unstoppable once they get it going.- Tigers get Sean Casey
DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers acquired first baseman Sean Casey from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday in exchange for minor-league pitcher Brian Rogers. Casey, a career .304 hitter, gives the AL Central-leading Tigers the left-handed-hitting presence they have lacked as they head toward a playoff berth. Casey hit .296 (63-for-213) with 15 doubles, three home runs and 29 RBI in 59 games this season with Pittsburgh. Rogers, 24, went 3-2 with one save and a 2.39 ERA in 37 relief appearances this season with Double-A Erie of the Eastern League. He was Detroit's 11th round selection in the 2003 draft from Georgia Southern University. To make room for Casey, Detroit optioned the contract of first baseman Chris Shelton to Triple-A Toledo. Shelton hit 10 home runs in the month of April -- nine in the first 13 games -- but has hit only six since. He is batting .277 with 16 homers and 45 RBI in 103 games this season.- Schmidt
QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) He isn't worth Soriano or Tejada to most people here, so who is he worth? I think most people are opposed to trading pitching for offense.- Grinder Bash feedback
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 09:10 AM) Well, last night could not have gone any more smoothly. I didn't get there til 5:25 and I thought I'd be late for everything and screwed. NOPE. I walked right in, there was no line, went to the table where they give you a wristband which determines what time you get to go on the field. We opted for the 7:00-7:25 slot. Grabbed two beers and got into the food line becasue the food was not ready yet. At about 5:45, the kitchen gates went up and the food was ready. We ate until about 6:00. Visited a few gift shops, the press room, the visitor's clubhouse and the Scout seats lounge. I was surprised at how small the visitor's clubhouse is, the press room was fun. At about 6:55 we headed over to the 'elephant gates' in CF and they let us onto the field. You can go anywhere except the infield. I took my flip flops off and took in the grass. We took a ton of pictures and left the field at 7:25. Headed back to the patio area, grabbed more food and two more beers. Left at about 7:50. Nothing was too crowded and everything was well organized. GREAT TIME! By the way, there was a guy who was asking people who only had invites and not tickets to stand in another line. I'm not sure what they did with those people, maybe they got in after all. I'm sorry some of you didn't get to go and that Thursday night was kind of a mess, but I thought this thread could use some positivity. I had a good time as well. One comment though about the scout seats lounge. It was so nice compared to other parts of the park yet it reminded me of the lower level concourse at Pac Bell. You'll see generic 13" TVs scattered all over USCF yet the scout seat lounge has nice plasma TVs broadcasting in HD. While at Pac Bell last weekend there were dozens of plasma screens all over the concourse broadcasting the game in HD. Was a very nice touch. I will admit that our park looks a whole lot better since it's early years but when comparing it to the elite stadiums it still comes off as sort of cheap when it comes to the attention to detail.- Alomar to exclusively catch Buehrle
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:28 AM) That reminds me, I've meant to ask this question recently... Who is the #3 catcher on the team, in the event one is needed? That one day after Widge was released and they weren't sure if Alomar would make it in for the game, I was wondering who would play if AJ got hurt. Ozuna I believe.- MLB Trade Deadline Thread 7/31
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:24 AM) Bowden may be coming to his senses after all; If he has then I wouldn't mind seeing Kenny get back into the mix.- Please don't blame Jenks
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) Jermaine Dye is quickly shooting up the ranks as one of my favorite Sox players of all time. ^^^^^^^^ Perhaps it's time for me to bust out my old Spiderman sig.- Alomar to exclusively catch Buehrle
So this will be 1 guaranteed off day for AJ each time through the rotation. I don't want to see any more days off for him in addition to those games unless we play a doubleheader.- Alomar to exclusively catch Buehrle
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) Subtle swipe at AJ's pitch calling? They mentioned his previous success with Sandy. Didn't he have a lot of success with AJP behind the plate last year? Seems like a lot of excuses for Mark's problems. Tipping pitches, lights in the OF, and now this.- Alomar to exclusively catch Buehrle
Just announced on Comcast Sportsnite.- Please don't blame Jenks
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) Doesn't matter who's pitching, things can happen ... see Gibbons' bloop to CF. The point being, playing the IF back in that situation takes away a defensive option. Any type of slow roller ends the game. Or a bunt. It goes both ways as you increase the hitter's opportunity to sneak one past the drawn in IF. Pick your poison I guess.- Please don't blame Jenks
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) Would they not want to try and cut the winning run off at home plate on a softly hit grounder? Why concede the winning run? If they play back, it requires a hard hit ball on the ground. Playing the infield in gives them the opportunity to keep the game alive on a softly hit ball via a force at the plate, or possibly a DP if it's hit right at someone. Why eliminate one of your options? Your criticism stems from the end result, a hard hit ball not right at one of the infielders. They played the %'s and the guy smoked one. Aren't the chances of a hard hit ground ball likely to increase with the a Jenks fastball? - MLB Trade Deadline Thread 7/31
