Official Game Thread 6/30 - Sox vs Cubs 1:20
QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) yeah... I understand where you are coming from. But this cubs team has the worst slugging percentage in baseball and the second fewest home runs in baseball. That just means they are due like the Pirates were yesterday.

The OFFICIAL Palehose Six thread
QUOTE(zach23 @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) Just a wild guess here, but I would bet that the part of the cartoon where it says, "by Carl Skanberg" could be a clue as to who makes them.

White Sox Loser
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) Boston's game one starter last year had an era over 4.5 with like a 6 era in the 2nd half. Since they had to first make sure they had a playoff spot, they were unable to have their true ace start the playoff series. In fact, he never had a chance to pitch. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) And Widger cannot call a baseball game anymore. Those are real problems that will bite us in the ass come playoff time. Widger wouldn't even play in the playoffs.

How long does it take to fix an escalator? The final escalator going up at gate 5 has been broken all year. What's the hold up?

QUOTE(flbob @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 08:29 PM) - i think rogers will cool off but not as much as he did in the 100+ degree temps of dallas. plus, i suspect he'll be getting extra rest in the second half. Rogers' had better numbers at home in Texas in the 2nd half.

How about a new back up catcher?
Widger is as important to this team as Ross Gload.

Inconsistent Starting Pitching
I don't think so VAfan. Ozzie finds it more important to get the starter the win than to put the team in the best position to win.

Inconsistent Starting Pitching
Wow. I just looked at tomorrow's pitching matchup and realized we have a starter with a 5.76 ERA. Just awful. Is it possible our rotation is highly overrated?

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) I'm pretty confident the Sox will make the playoffs, I guess. It's winning in the playoffs that has me worried. Our team reminds of last year's Red Sox (great hitting, suspect pitching) whereas the Tigers remind me of last year's White Sox (great SP, good bullpen, low OBP, can hit homers). We know what happened in the playoffs. Very good comparison. We definitely have an '05 BoSox feel to this team.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) I'm several pages back in this thread, but feel this post needs to be quoted. We can label Contreras or Buehrle our "aces," but let's be honest -- compared to those two they're birdshirt. Don't worry. That will all change when our Liriano is either traded for or developed. Right? How many teams have a Liriano type in their system? 3? You make it sound as if the Sox are the only team in baseball without such a player.

So what are the chances Freddy is a 20 game winner? Could be the first 20 game winner with an ERA around 5.

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) Maroth=not good. And does Franklin German really give you the heebie-jeebies? Again, not worried. Overall I am confident in our chances but I don't see how you can discount the Tigers. You really aren't presenting much of an argument other than 'hey trust me'.

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) They won't go over .500 after the all-star break. I hope you are right but I have seen nothing that would lead me to believe that this will happen. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) And while their starters have been good, they're young and experienced. Verlander is going to fall off the table. Verlander is the only young and inexperienced guy in the rotation. Minor will be replaced by Maroth. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) And their bullpen is nothing to write home about. Their bullpen has been excellent (minus Todd Jones).

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) Mark it down, the Tigers are not winning over 90 games this season. They're good, but not THAT good. Not White Sox good. By mid-August, we will be laughing at them and be more worried about Minnesota than Detroit. And you base this on what? The fact that they have the best pitching staff in baseball? They don't even have to play .500 ball the rest of the way to get 90 wins. EDIT: They can go winless in July and be 4 games over .500.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Again, I'm a little shocked that people are jumping off ledges about a team still on pace to win 103+ games this season. I can only speak for myself but although we have won at a great pace in the last few weeks we do have some concerns on this team. The starting pitching is nowhere near as good as they were hyped up to be. I rarely have the feeling that the opponent has no chance to do anything against our starter. They rarely take a game into the 8th inning and this has Ozzie rely on the bullpen in every game. The bullpen has been solid as of late but they will wear down at this pace.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) What good team have they won a series from in the past month? Bear in mind any NL team doesn't qualify as a "good team" Point is they haved killed eveyone for the entire month. There aren't a lot of good teams out there. We lose games to bad teams which can hurt us at the end of the year when we are battling for a playoff spot.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) Yeah, you're right, being able to take 4 from KC at Kauffmann will sure come in handy when they are getting their asses handed to them in Boston this postseason. Not sure if you've noticed but they are beating everyone now. Not just the bad teams. Winning instills confidence. They have a can't lose mentality now.
