For GOP only
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 08:08 AM) The Republican pity party and b****ing over a media witch hunt, and seeming feeling that democrats are given a total free pass during sex scandals, whle republicans are burned at the stake, is truly embarassing. I've just been shocked at the fact that seemingly the entire party is using Spitzer as a target of opportunity to cry like babies over media coverage, and it's pretty pathetic. It's not pathetic it's a fact. If you don't like, vote dem. Say Katie Couric sent ya! edit: I take that back, don't listen to Couric. Vote McCain.

For GOP only
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) I'll just get to the question in this rant, and the point of it. If you really think the networks are going out of their way just to note the affiliation of one party and not the other in sex scandals, your giving them way too much credit and thinking they are way smarter then they are. Even a total idiot would know how to do that. How is that giving them too much credit for being smart?

So Brian Anderson's hitting...
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) Range is a combination of being able to read the ball correctly and speed. Torii hunter is not the fastest guy in the world, but he can read the ball off the bat and get a better jump than the pure speedster that can go get it. If speed was part of range then Pods would of been an allstar in CF. Brian Anderson is a natural centerfielder and he can make the correct reads that get him in the right spot at the right time. Definitely. Best range in CF does not always mean fastest player.

So Brian Anderson's hitting...
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) Of course range is more important, but to say arm strength isn't important at all is neglecting a lot. arm strength is, of course, part of the equation as to what constitutes a good defensive center fielder.

So Brian Anderson's hitting...
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) I couldn't disagree more. Those two, along with Owens, see teams take advantage of their lack of arm and consistently take the extra base. Range is more important than throwing arm for CF'er IMO. Taking away gap shots can be a huge lift for a team.

So Brian Anderson's hitting...
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) So are there some here that are just really against one of these 3 guys being the starter? I mean I have my pick on who I like, but I'm not against one of the others if they are out performing. It seems some here are totally against Owens, Anderson or Quentin regardless how they perform? Is that the case for some of you? I think the Sox should give the starting job to whoever, out of the three, performs the best this spring. Like an open competition. But I'm sure thats a stupid idea.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) Hopefully the fact that PA is a closed primary will keep some of the GOP'ers at bay. Some could change their registration of course, but as Rex pointed out, the deadline for that is fast approaching and most people won't bother or don't know about it. Yea, i doubt very many Republicans are going to go to that much trouble just to vote for Hillary.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 10:23 AM) MSM is picking up on the "Limbaugh swing" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-k-wilso...ef_b_91112.html Didn't the Dailykas try to do the same thing to McCain? I guess Rush is more convincing to his followers.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) would that REALLY surprise you? It definitely would not. Hillary is well on her way to being an honorary member of the GOP. But what she REALLY needs to do is drag out this primary and steal the nomination at convention

Gov. Spitzer (NY - Dem) netted in prostitution ring
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) Putting The King on the FBI drug task force was sheer brilliance. He kept untold quantities of pills off the streets. . . by taking them all himself. A true patriot

Gov. Spitzer (NY - Dem) netted in prostitution ring
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) There's a difference between covering and breaking the story. Drudge, AP, CNN, Fox News all listed the story initially as the New York Times reports that. If the NY Times doesn't break it, it's still getting out there. This wasn't an exclusive scoop.

Gov. Spitzer (NY - Dem) netted in prostitution ring
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 08:53 AM) By the way, this story broke on the New York Times website. Damn liberal media. Oh wait. That would have been really funny if the New York Times ignored a huge scandal involving the Governor of New York. But you're right, it proves they aren't biased. FOX news covered the Larry Craig scandal, so that proves they are totally down the middle, not biased.

Gov. Spitzer (NY - Dem) netted in prostitution ring
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 10:47 PM) Hmmm... the GOP in New York State really really hates Spitzer. Mike Bloomberg gives a large donation to Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno in Albany. The Feds leak that Spitzer is implicated in a prostitution ring investigation within a week of initial arrests. There's more to this than just prostitution me thinks. This is Joe Bruno being better at Spitzer's game than the Governor ever was. ..and it begins. of course, he was set up! FRAMED!!!

Gov. Spitzer (NY - Dem) netted in prostitution ring
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 05:01 PM) Woohoo! 2 posts! Nah, this story is too sensationalized. The party doesn't matter. Sex doesn't matter. story will be buried within 2 days. if this was GOP scandal it would have been front page for weeks. A big story for months.

Gov. Spitzer (NY - Dem) netted in prostitution ring
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) I don't know, but it took only 2 posts for someone to claim he was going to get special treatment because of his party. I saw CBS nightly news tonight. Their coverage of this story was hilarious. First they give a glorifying montage of how great Sptizer is. Then show a shadowy camera angle and creepy music.... the GOP is out to get Spitzer. Then kind of mention that maybe he is busted in a prostitution right. But of course, this is right down the middle reporting! right northside? I'm sure it is too you. just like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are totally unbiased, or so says the right wing voter. There is no shame in calling out the media for what they are, but my duty as a informed citizen.

Gov. Spitzer (NY - Dem) netted in prostitution ring
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) Well, we'll see what media attention this gets. It will be big news because it's SEX and it's high profile, but it would be "an embarassment of epic proportions" if it was Spitzer (REP). But I don't have to say that. This should be a big time story, we'll see if the media covers it like they did Larry Craig.

County Board Passes Budget
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 06:51 PM) You are the one that made an absolute statement. I replied with "in my experience...", and disagreed. fair enough

County Board Passes Budget
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) And you've known alderman who didn't do anything, as you put it? Because I've known a few, and none fit that description. I won't get into a pissing contest with you over who has lived in the city longer. I've spent most of my life in the city or the suburbs. And I've been around the political system - city, county, state - in close quarters. There is no need to get snide about this, just because someone disagrees with you. changed my reply to you. no offense meant. but you are coming off like you are an expert and know how things work and anyone who disagrees is completely clueless. you display this attitude with use of rhetorical questions within your post, which come off a condescending. and yes I know plenty of alderman that are a waste of money. their staff, their salary, their buildings, all their buddies with high paying jobs, family members gettin special business advantages, ect.

County Board Passes Budget
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 05:25 PM) Do you live in the city? Have you worked around many alderman? Because many of them are pretty crooked, but I've never met one who didn't do a lot of work. And ultimately, even the crooked ones do a lot for their communities, in my experience. I am sure there are exceptions though. Throwing the baby out with the bath water doesn't accomplish anything. I've lived in Chicago almost my whole life, I am well aware of what alderman do. I disagree with your assessment. How long you lived in chicago? you form the suburbs? just curious.

County Board Passes Budget
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) I'd suggest you'd actually cost yourself money by doing that, not save it. The whole system in Chicago is too heavily tied to wards. I think you're targeting the wrong thing. If you want to get rid of corruption, get rid of corruption. But the way the city council and funding are set up is, I think, very good at getting the right level of public input and supporting the needs of each neighborhood. na, i don't think so. they are a waste of money. don't need that many. most of them don't do jack.
