Feingold thinks he could beat Hillary
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 06:21 PM) I'll give you a prime example. Early this year, Russ Feingold proposed censuring the President over the warrantless, illegal NSA wiretapping program. What was the media's response? Other than the usual "This will finally be the thing that helps Mr. Bush's polls rebound" which they'd repeat even if he started biting the heads off of chickens, the other thing was "oh, Feingold is just trying to help his Presidential bid". suuuure

Jim Thome
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:52 AM) Actually, I think moving Thome could be a ingenious move. We could get very good value for him and use the chips we got for him to restock our system while trying to find a bat (much easier to find than top notch prospects that we could use to get us starting pitching, which is the real tough commoddity out there). So Yes, I'd be a huge fan of moving Thome. I think he's a great guy but I also think his numbers make him look better than he's actually been. who do think would replace Thome's offensive numbers? are you ready to give up on this team for next year and look to the future? i'm not. what exactly do you think Thome would bring? remember his salary and age.

And That's a White Sox Loser
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:49 AM) The last thing I'll say about it before finally going to bed is that Ozzie's approach isn't a proven winner. The Sox 2005 pitching was a proven winner. That pitching carried us big time. Did you see how many runs we scored last year? The offense was pretty crappy. It was picked up time and time again by great pitching. Outstanding pitching can carry a mediocre or crappy offense that doesn't score many runs. But you really shouldn't count on a pitching staff being that great again. ozzie had something to do with the pitching. as i stated earlier he stuck with Garland, he went with Jenks, ...ect. not a proven winner? look where this team was before Guillen and look where it is now. give the guy some credit. later, go sox.

And That's a White Sox Loser
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:41 AM) Of course my post was an exaggeration. But the point is that we know what kind of players Ozzie likes. There is a reason that Podsednik gets all of this playing time, even though he's having one of the worst seasons of any major league regular this year. Ozzie loves speed and BS. He values that over big, slow power hitters who have great OBP and SLG. Ozzie doesn't know how to score runs. He wants fundamentally sound little speedsters (like he was). He wants to play small-ball and manufacture runs and he would love to have a team appropriately constituted for that kind of offense. And that strategy would result in very few runs scored and even fewer wins. well... i'm with ozzie on moving runners over, stealing bases, defense and 'small ball' tactics. keep the big bats but still play the game with an aggresive, 'old school' mentality. obviously we're all disappointed in what seems to be this years results and have opposite ideas of where the team should go. i like ozzie's approach and it's a proven winner.

And That's a White Sox Loser
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:36 AM) Giving Ozzie the team he wants for 2007. That is the scariest thought I could possibly imagine. It would be a team full of speedy, scrappy, hard-nosed grinders who can't hit their weight, but know how to put a bunt down. They'd play hard and the team would score about 500 runs. The Sox would miss the playoffs, but Ozzie would be happy that the team is "playing baseball the right way." how do you figure? so ozzie would trade Dye, Konerko, Thome, Crede, ect..? c'mon, we both know thats bs.

And That's a White Sox Loser
Ken Williams has stated that ozzie influenced his moves to put together the 05 team. that includes pitching. remember ozzie was one of the few people in the organization that put faith in Garland. ozzie also saw Bobby Jenks potential and helped with the development of Contreras. no, Manual would not have won the series with the team ozzie had in 05. i agree with you on ozzie's day to day lineup choices, but the guy has gotten results. you really would fire Guillen and hire Pinella? i would rather see some off-season moves and give ozzie the team he wants for 2007.

And That's a White Sox Loser
i don't think he's handled the bullpen well this year. i didn't like how he mixed the lineups this year. i didn't like how he mixed the lineups in 05'. i do like how he managed/told KW what players he wanted on the team in 05. we won the world series in 05. i would definately give him another shot in 07. really, you want ozzie gone? if so, who do you think the sox should replace him with?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:07 AM) How about a manager who wouldnt put a player who is bad in CF in CF. Or someone who plays there starters more than 25%. name someone sorry, but i'm not ready to throw the manager who won us our first world series in like 100 years under the bus

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) Hopefully we can fire ozzie before we set our team back by employing another bad speed guy just because Ozzie thinks this is the 2003 Marlins. fire ozzie and hire who? QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 12:12 AM) Dear God I am in a terrible mood right now, f***ing Sox always do this to me. I just really don't want the Sox to settle for mediocrity this offseason and I do believe Pierre is just that. Can't we just for once have a decent fielding, non-pussarmed, high OBP leftfielder/leadoffman? I don't think it's that much to ask. Or is it? podsednik was definately a spark for this team last year. i think pierre could have a much better 07 than pods had in 05. who are you thinking of signing?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:40 PM) Funny because he's been pretty horrible in the National League. Should be fun watching another puss armed s*** fielder out there in LF again next season. And Brandon looked damn good tonight. Good for him. McCarthy is good i'm ok with a pussy ass arm in left, but he needs to get on base (200 hits is possible), steal, bunt...ect the guy is on the Cubs, of course he's gonna suck . Pierre's numbers are pretty good from 01 to 04. i think he could have a nice 07 for the chi sox.

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:36 PM) you are right, i just want to know how you think we can upgrade speed. sign Pierre in left i know thats now a popular idea, but i think the guy could have some good years here

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) so do you want dave roberts in lf then? young SPing is no rarer than a 20 homer 60 steal 300 hitting leadoff man. not really. McCarthy hasn't had a chance in the rotation yet so we don't really know what he can do full time. if the guy can step up and have a mid 3 era and close to 20 wins i'll take that over 20 hr 60 steals guy. all speculation of course. remember too that pitching is VERY expensive. we can keep McCarthy for a bit with arbitration for a decent price.

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) is there anyone left in soxdom who wouldnt deal bmac and others to get crawford now? me for one. McCarthy isn't bullpen pitcher. I wouldn't trade a starting pitching talent like his. Given, Crawford one hell of a player, but good young starting pitching is a rare commidity.
