As many as half a million dead so far in Sudan
QUOTE(longshot7 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) It looks like I'm in the minority, but so what? Unless the US is being directly threatened in this conflict, we should not be involved. Same goes for Iraq. We are not the World's Policeman. i agree QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) Wow, just wow. If I ever see you getting mugged on the street I hope you don't mind if I just stand and watch. Seeing as how I'm not a policeman. not a good analogy but hey, http://www.goarmy.com/flindex.jsp sign up my friend and if you get lucky you might get sent to Africa!

France is pizzed at us..
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) Ah, I love this logic...it just keeps coming back... "It doesn't matter what bad things we may do, Germany has no right to criticize us, because we're better than the Nazis!" Someone other than me care to point out the flaw? wow, just wow pot.kettle.black i've read many a post from you bashing the united states in order to defend illegal or incorrect actions from other governments. there is a certain element of irony when Germany is criticizing the US for human rights violations.

France is pizzed at us..
German Chancellor Angela Merkel — an advocate of closer ties with Washington — had veiled criticism of the United States, saying: "The ends cannot justify the means." "In the fight against international terror ... respect for human rights, tolerance and respect for other cultures must be the maxim of our actions, along with decisiveness and international cooperation," she said. yea, ok GERMANY thats like the cubs criticizing another mlb team for losing too much

Clinton & former administration officials question 9-11 miniseries
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) Because the political right wing would never do such a thing... Oh wait. well, there have been entire series (aka, west wing) that portray demcrats in a very positive light. i would think they would be fairly happy with the ratio of pro-democrat television to criticism of democrats shown on network television. did you think the Reagan miniseries should have been moved to showtime? or did you think it was censorship.

BYU prof. on paid leave for 9/11 conspiracy
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) Yes. I believe it is. There's a reason tenured faculty positions exist...because they give professors a right to come forwards with unpopular views which are often incorrect but sometimes do wind up advancing the field they're in. I'll give you geology as an example, because I know it fairly well for some reason. There's a guy down the hall from me who about 10 years ago started pushing the idea that the Earth froze over completely, all the way down to the equator, at various positions in history. At the time, it was considered quite ludicrous. Now, it's become quite accepted. On the other hand, there are still people who refuse to believe in plate tectonics, for whatever reason. Both of those points of view might seem to the majority of people to be wrong, and significantly so, but in the end, more evidence comes out, and it looks like one of them turned out to be right. That a person advocates a theory, no matter how unpopular, should not on its own be a reason for firing a professor. If the professor you're talking about decides to purchase a couple slaves to prove his theory right...then you should be able to fire that prof. Or if the Nazi prof goes out and starts organizing violence against Jews, then of course you can fire them. But the principle of tenure/academic freedom has so many benefits that the few problems and hypotheticals people come up with against it simply aren't strong arguments. It's sort of the same way I view free speech. We might be better off if there were no Nazis or hate groups out espousing their ideology. But we wouldn't be better off if the government told them they couldn't say that. until moveon.org told you to change your mind. then you would protest that university. just messing with you

- Dems don't like minimum wage?
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) Like spending time on an Internet message board commenting about a topic you could care less about. haha, burn QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Isn't Illinois one of many states that provides free education and health care to children of illegals, even if they are illegal themselves? Me thinks this would be a gigantic cost savor as compared to the avg American family. I agree that the previous poster made it seem as though illegals found a way to cheat the system for a gigantic reward. That's wrong. But so are you for making it seem like they work 24/7 and live in the alleys of Chicago with nothing to show for it. I could have sworn I also read stories about illegals who were able to obtain drivers licenses' and apply for financial aid at state universities and colleges (I believe Colorado was involved with that). great post i totally agree- Anyone remember France denying flyovers?
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 11:03 PM) France is doing nothing according to the article cited. the thread had already veered away from the article- Dems don't like minimum wage?
QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 11:23 PM) Ive got enough stuff to deal with and worry about that being concerned with how much an underqualified person makes at their job. a healthy minimum wage helps the economy and tends to lower crime rates, therefore it probably does affect you. not all of the working poor are in their particular employment situation because they are lazy or whatever. - Dems don't like minimum wage?
