  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) Nothing is worse to me than the "somewhere in the middle" pundit class politics worked into an artform by Friedman and epitomized by the failure of "third way" corporatist campaigns like Americans Elect. agree.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 10:36 AM) with the stimulus I thought we were supposed to be under 6% by now? around 5.6 % I believe
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) Law and medicine are two areas where market forces just don't really compute. You don't want to risk your life or a big case by handing it off to just anyone. meh, i don't agree that. what you are stating can be said for a lot of professions, like engineering for example.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) Really though, the legal profession is a good example of why an endless number of doctors wouldn't necessarily lower prices. You can have a million doctors with a degree, but there's still a finite number of jobs available for them. Can't they open a private practice? In most circumstances the free market principles of supply and demand effects labor costs.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) That is one consistent difference between US and other doctors--US doctors are compensated at much higher rates. I don't know if doctors in other countries have much lower medical school costs, though. I'd imagine some of them have terrible socialized school for their socialist doctors. or just have more medical schools and increase the number of enrollments allowed. increase supply. but there is probably some lobby that would be against that so it won't happen.
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) It wont matter. Tax them a 100%, theyll increase fees 100%. Doctors have one of the most powerful and persuasive lobbies in all of America. the tax will triple each time they increase fees 1%. but seriously, yea they have a really powerful lobby that is keeping price artificially high.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) Call it a tax. ^^^
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) The AMA's cap on residencies hasn't moved in about 15 years. 2) Remove the cap immediately.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) Our laboratories of democracy are trying to address it right now! 1) increase supply of doctors. flood the market by giving out green cards to anyone that can get a medical degree. establish a clear path by which a foreign-born, foreign-trained individual can receive a green card and a medical license. prices will sink like a stone.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 12:02 PM) Health insurance is a result of all of the costs. Until costs are dealt with, health insurance isn't going to get any cheaper. yea, and it's something they apparently will never address.
  12. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 06:12 AM) Another Chicago homeowners property tax increase. "Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Thursday defended his decision to authorize a $41 million school property tax increase — the second tax-to-the-max increase during his first year in office." --- "Coming just one year after he authorized the Chicago Public Schools to raise property taxes by a whopping $150 million." What is so baffling about this to me, and it's not that they can't use the money...I'm sure they can, it's that they're making the property bust worse by levying more taxes/fees on people who are barely getting by as it is. While I can afford it...I know people that CANNOT afford tax increase after tax increase and keep their homes. Let's keep in mind this guy just doubled everyones water bills...and they double again this year. Yes, double. I'm thinking about getting a meter for my house. Heard it is way cheaper then the non-meter cost
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) Not sure how much medicine/medical care can stop the country from being fat and needing more treatment later in life. Dude, I was just looking at random people out and about and like 90% are extreme fatsos. Even little kids are super fat!
  14. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 06:12 AM) Another Chicago homeowners property tax increase. Let's keep in mind this guy just doubled everyones water bills...and they double again this year. Yes, double. Yea the tax increases are total bs.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 07:51 PM) Second about to be published study finds that passing a stand your ground law is associated with a significant increase in the homicide rate, particularly amongst white males does this mean you support it now?
  16. would somebody please photoshop John Roberts into that picture and post it here. i would really appreciate it.
  17. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) This is funny, but would have been funnier if Roberts was photoshopped in. ^^^
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 11:55 AM) If I do not cash in the mortgage interest deduction tax credit, I am paying a higher tax rate. Under the exact same standard you used, agreed to by the Chief Justice I might add...I'm being forced to buy a mortgage. Which is confusing since I don't have one. i'm too hung over to follow this logic. but i will attempt to. so, using this logic, people that get tax credits for having kids is the same thing as forcing me to have kids? anyways how are you being forced to buy a mortgage? and I have decided Roberts is a corrupt shill
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) No one is forced to buy anything here, unless I've been forced to buy a house (and I'm a renter, so no I haven't). Obama is getting rid of the home tax write off to pay for Obama care?
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 11:39 AM) So then you have no problem with the government creating this tax and tax rebate, as long as this program is successful in controlling health care costs. Great. only if people will be forced to buy products and services from me too. i am entitled. start sending the checks and pay your fair share.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 11:30 AM) Which is why y'all have paid back the government every other tax credit you've received in your lives, right? right after they pay me back for all my money they have taken and wasted.
  22. The ruling does not surprise me. The court is basically a corporatist statist body. A law that forces the population to buy certain corporate products or services? excellent Illegals? great, cheap labor. Crack down on corporate bribes in government? no way. unconstitutional.
