  1. QUOTE (knightni @ May 7, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Did he come back in the 1950s as a hitter and lead the Giants to the pennant? no, i believe he came back for the phils a few years later, then retired with baltimore. Just never was the same. Kind of drank himself to death in later years. Nickname in his early years was "the natural"
  2. seriously, i fear back to back shutouts
  3. QUOTE (gordonventura38 @ May 7, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) Maybe if we get a hold of this guy for the game tonight we might be ok: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb ha! did you see that Kelly Wunsch is doing radio down there?
  4. Pierre7, Vizquel4, Jonesdh, Rios8, AJ2, Q9, Teahen5, Kotsay3, Ram6. Buehrle pitching.
  5. He was a tremendous pitcher and that '47 team was fantastic, just a bunch of young guys. They also had one named Eddie Waitkus and if you ever get a chance, look him up. He was traded to the Phils by the Cubs. There was a young woman from Chicago who worshiped Eddie Waitkus. In fact, during pre-game he once smiled at her and she fainted right there in the stands at Wrigley. She was devastated when he was traded to Philly, so much so that she tried to kill him when he came to town the next season. She lured him to a hotel room and shot him point-blank in the chest. Miraculously, he survived, but was never the same player again. Sound familiar?
  6. I think you have to give pods some credit - he figured some stuff out with his health and training and it's made a big difference in his ability to be consistent. He's a terrible fielder and a bad base runner, but the guy gets on base, works counts and puts the ball in play. I would love to see him as our DH this season. Kenny and Ozzie made a mistake, not that they'll admit it (see Pierre and Kotsay).
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2010 -> 10:03 PM) Cowley's such an asshole. I heard Ozzie talk about Beckham, and he didn't mean Golden Boy in a bad way. All Ozzie was saying is that Beckham has been the Golden Boy wherever he's played, be it in Little League or high school or at UGa. I was extremely impressed with Ozzie's post game press conference with regards to Beckham. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 07:13 AM) What else is new. The sooner he goes the way of Mariotti, the better. I would never have known that from his tweet. You're right, the guy's a total dick and the sooner he's gone, the better.
  8. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 6, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) Thats encouraging... exactly
  9. interesting comment by Buehrle on his struggles: "You hope so, but sometimes if you're losing stuff and the league's catching up to you, you're going to give up hits," he said. "When guys are on base, I have to try to get that ground ball for a double play or not give up that big inning."
  10. every time you think they've reached a new low, this team finds a way to dig down deep for more.
  11. goddamnit kenny, send some of these f***ers down and bring in some offense. enough of this s*** already.
  12. right down the pipe at 88
  13. share a seat next to gordon
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 6, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) Now that Pierre is getting one hit a game, maybe Gordon should be the new candidate for the nine hole. Sending him down would e dumb. This team is going nowhere anyway. i disagree - he looks like he could use a confidence boost
  15. Ramirez has had a game at short.
  16. twins lose. come on, find a way to win this.
  17. and now he's bringing it onto the field
  18. why do i just know that pena is going to get in trouble this inning?
  19. with any luck the twinkies won't rally and we won't lose any ground. small comfort.
  20. as beckham plunges below the mendoza line....
  21. Vernon Wells tipped his cap at Santos to start the at bat. Classy.
