  1. i'd seriously like to see some bunt attempts from guys not named dye and konerko
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:31 PM) Yeah, he's making our hitters look silly. He's throwing a very nasty 94 mph sinker right now, and hasn't even really thrown a lot of his nasty offspeed stuff. If our offense doesn't wake up though, we're going to have a terrible road trip coming up. You can't expect to win 3-2 games at Texas. And please...........NO MORE LILLIBRIDGE AND OWENS. I like Hawk's reaction after Lillibridge's last AB. In a very somber voice, he goes "Lillibridge now 5 for (long pause) 35". i knew he wasn't a slugger in ATL, but i thought he was better than this at the plate.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) You say that almost like he's a nobody. if he was a nobody, i would assume we could scrape together a few runs.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) Why, what did they say? he's able to sit on the bench with a heel thats so sore he can't bat against a kid he absolutely owns.
  5. thome must have a really high threshold for pain
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) Sweeney with RBI single. Danks looks pretty bad so far, as he can't command his fastball. Mariners announcers are laughing that runners are 19-19 stealing vs Sox this year. that is funny. hell, scott rolen stole a base!
  7. i don't see how they're going to play tonight - looks like it's going to be a steady rain.
  8. bad break - at least it's not too serious. he should be back fast.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) The good news is Contreras looked good. The Sox weren't supposed to be in this game. The Sox had some chances early they f***ed up on. that. and BA has decided he wants the starting CF job. And Lexi is coming around. There's a lot to like about this team.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) I really hope Ozzie doesn't let AJP face Downs in the 9th inning. Like I said earlier, if you're not going to play Betemit against a tough righty like Halladay, then you might as well not have him on the roster and file a sexual assault charge by the Yankees.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) It will be a 5 game, as Cleveland's not bad. After 3 weeks, I think the Tigers have the best team in the AL Central. Galarraga is proving last year wasn't a fluke, and their bullpen is significantly better this year (as is their defense). I agree - the tigers look the best. a healthy zoom makes a big difference too.
  12. anyone else feel like this 4 team logjam at the top of the AL central is going to be this way thru most of the summer? Or do you see some team breaking away?
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) Lillibridge looking like a pitcher during that AB, and Fields swing is just way off right now. It's not compact at all. Roy.Halladay.
  14. it's funny to think about how much i hated that indians team. Jim Thome used to murder the Sox. Seems like so long ago now.
  15. thanks for the feedback. impressive strikeout numbers.
  16. Does anyone know much about Derek Rodriguez, the pitcher who got promoted to Charlotte? Apparently he was doing pretty well in Birmingham.
  17. that looks fantastic! I like how many of those guys in the park believe Contreras is the greatest Cuban pitcher of all time. I'm going with Tiant, then the duke, then Jose. Isn't it wild how they keep all those old cars in such great shape? Will the lifting of travel restrictions allow Cuban defectors like Duque and Contreras to go back for visits?
  18. Blue Jays wisely called up a lefty for tonight's start, Brian Burres. "Burres was 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA in three games in Triple-A. He went 7-10 with a 6.04 ERA in 31 games with Baltimore last season." Sounds like it's ripe for the picking, but I'm not holding my breath.
  19. I was at the Danny Wright game in Anaheim in 2002, a 19-0 loss to the Angels. Felt a lot like that game. It's early but this team is pretty schizo, imo. It's easy to forget that this is only Lexi's second year in the league and the first time he's had to deal with serious adversity. Last year's slow start wasn't that big of a deal, expectations weren't real high anyway and he was still a bit of an unknown. He's dealing with much higher expectations, taking over a new position and failing. I'm pulling for him, but I wouldn't mind seeing Lillibridge get a few more chances until Lexi can show that he's turning it around.
  20. wikipedia should link that inning to the definition of "frustration"
  21. you're right, he's wiffing too much to be batting 2nd.
  22. that's awesome - it's the young guys sparking this team early on, that's for sure
