I'll be there tonight, should be a fantastic atmosphere and hopefully likewise for the game. I think Michigan pulls it off if Hart plays the entire game. In order to win, we really need to hit a few deep balls. Of course, that's always the problem. -

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 11:25 PM) I know this isn't NHL, but it's related so sue me. Just got home from the Wolves/Ice Hogs game at the Allstate. I had 10th row behind the visitors' bench - good times!!! Wolves win 5-4 in OT. Lots of scoring chances, lots of bad blood, evenly matched number of fans for each side. A couple things that stood out: Corey Crawford was sharp, despite giving up 5 goals. Jack Skille did almost nothing tonight. Terrible game. Cam Barker played fairly well, but took a bad penalty late in a tie game. I did a lot of good-natured ribbing with Ice Hogs fans (I especially liked referring to them as the Ice Pigs), but everyone was cool and it was a great time! Come say hi next time. And the Toews goal...HOLY f***. This is why I love this f***ing guy. Good f***ing god that was disgusting. Woooooooooooooooooooooow. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) And Boston College may follow suit next Thursday, as they visit Blacksburg for a weeknight game. Arizona State plays Cal, at Oregon, at UCLA, USC the next 4 weeks, Kansas plays at Colorado and Texas A&M the next 2 weeks, and finishes with Missouri. And of course, Ohio State still has games at Penn State and at Michigan, while even Hawaii has to play Boise State and a revitalized Fresno State program. I think there is a chance NOBODY survives the regular season undefeated, this might be the year that finally kills the BCS. The moral of the last 2 years is clear though: If your a BCS team having a dream undefeated season, don't visit Rutgers for a Thursday night game. Or the year where you really need the BCS to distinguish between 1 loss teams. Computers are way, way better at taking the season on the whole where the humans (read: coaches secretaries and press members who don't stay up past 9pm) put too much stock into what happened 10 minutes ago. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 17, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) Marquette's new jerseys. Thoughts? I like the checkerred pattern with the blue but I'm only lukewarm on the whites. Also, can anyone confirm that Shumpert is going to announce at 5:30 tomorrow? Honestly, I think those are brutal. Did Bettman design them? -
MLB has to do two things this winter: Make parks change their fences so home runs can't be this ridiculously controversial. I'm talking about railings, metal bar fences on top of the normal fences, wall edges behind the yellow line, etc. Instant replay on home runs only. Not that it would have helped tonight's call, but how an umpire is supposed to see something like that in real time from hundreds of feet away is beyond me. The way that ball came back I call it no HR as well, even if it hit the other wall behind the yellow line on the corner and kicked back in, which seems plausible.

It sounds like the wackiest goal ever, sitting on Legace's head for a second or two? Can't wait to see it. -

To above, go back to your own thread, whatever that is. As far as havlat is concerned, i'll believe it when i see it. I'm just trying to think of the Hawks minus Havlat for the rest of the season and whenever he does hit the ice, what a bonus. That shoulder is so f***ed up it's not funny. -
Reading stuff like this makes you wonder why some people aren't organ donors.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 01:48 AM) The one guy who I don't like back there is Vandermeer who's almost-Cullimore-slow and isn't very good with the puck. I'd look to move him for a draft pick. Obviously totally agree here. At least he's finding the press box, for now. How did Sopel and Zuz look Saturday? -

I was worried about the first 5 games of this schedule coming into the year. Out of the gate the Hawks played 5 playoff teams and went 3-2 (2-0 in division games). The schedule now lets up a bit, as the rest of the month is St Louis, Colorado, Toronto, Columbus, Boston, Atlanta, Dallas. We need to keep this play up into this part of the schedule. Hawks should be able to finish the month a few games above .500 for sure, especially with a real weak 4th week of the month. -
Very dumb by Drew. He didn't look at the ump nor Tulowitzki at any time after his slide. A quick look at either a safe call or an argument and he's standing on 2nd with one out.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 09:20 AM) I was at the game last night. We should have gotten a point in that game. No reason we should have lost it. Toews had a sick sick first goal, an awesome move followed up by physically out muscling the defender. He did get called for lots of bs calls as well. These Hawks are a decent team, Havlat is what makes them playoff-hopeful, and hes out. We COULD have gotten a point in that game, but we didn't deserve one whatsoever. We were terribly outplayed and outshot. -

Rumor has it college gameday has contacted Illinois officials about possibly coming down for college gameday next week vs Michigan. I'm not banking Iowa as a win, just thought the mention of this even possibly happening is really cool. There aren't a ton of good games next week, and it is one of the Saturday night games. We'll see what happens. -

I only saw it once, live, but I yelled that it was weak as s*** when it was called, and I'm as far from a Hawks homer at a game as you will find. Khabibulin was solid tonight, what else is new. Toews with a sick first NHL goal, that was pimp. They left him on the jumbotron for like a full minute after that goal and the crowd cheered for almost all of it. That was kinda neat. The first line tonight blew. It really didn't do a whole lot offensively. The '2nd' line is far better than our '1st' line. Ruutu/Toews/Kane at least generated some offense. The 2nd best line tonight was the 4th line with Burish/Adams/Lapointe. They forechecked pretty well and often drew the Thornton line and did a decent job on them. I really like Adams game (as a 4th liner). He's good defensively, on PK, on draws...he's a solid addition down there. 3rd line was meh, Bourque and Williams really need to do something productive somewhere here. Vandermeer is still bad. I really hope he's the odd guy out when Zuz is back. He was really slow and got burned badly a few times tonight. His puck movement leaves a lot to be desired as does his foot speed. I'll be pissed if it's one of the other guys that is the odd man out. Wiz and MagJo are way better than him, and Sopel seems decent enough right now to warrant some more playing time to see what he's all about. Savard had some f***ed up power play units going tonight, using 5 forwards at times, and that unit didn't involve Kane, Toews, or Ruutu. Williams was on the point, Perrault was there, and Lang ended up there when SJ had a shorthanded breakaway because no one knew what the hell they were doing in the neutral zone and let a guy slip waaaaay behind them. I know we don't have any outstanding qbs, but 5 forwards at once, especially the ones he had out there, was terrible. They can't play defense on any sort of rush against them, and they have a hard time breaking it out. I really don't want to see more of that. Crowd really wasn't that big at all tonight and it was kind of quiet for the most part because the Hawks were badly outplayed. Shots were in fact indicative of how the game went. Any time we had it in the offensive zone we couldn't sustain pressure or get a cycle going and most shots were from the outside. Any time it was in our zone, they toyed with us for entire shifts until we could get a clear and a change. Now SJ is a good hockey team, no doubt, but we were lethargic tonight. That's not the Hawks team from the first 2 games. I was just hoping to get to OT and basically steal a point and go from there, but that was one too many PP's to try to kill off. It was a really nice tip in by Michalek for the winner, it barely beat Habby. -
I do as well, however apparently some people find that 'weird'

I agree on Kane, Adams (who took a lot of draws in the OT then went off the ice immediately). Thought Bourque was OK, didn't really think too much of Williams. I will like the day when we can get him off the point on the PP. To add a few 'new' thoughts... Khabibulin was rock solid tonight. He made some superb saves, and was awesome in the shootout. Don't want to let that go unnoticed. I thought Samsonov had a nice game, especially the last 2 periods. He was around the puck a lot, was using his speed, and was actually noticeable out there. Sopel was actually pretty decent. He seemed strong on the puck and didn't get beat, also didn't have too many turnovers from what I remember. Magnus seems like he'll be pretty good but he had a few bone headed turnovers (that failed slap shot dump in on a bouncing puck was retarded) just like the rest of our defense (mainly Keith, though I still like the guy. Whole lot of fun tonight. If this team can keep its head above water and get Toews and Havlat back and running (Toews should be ready Wed), this team could be a lot of fun this year. Also...I was SHOCKED there were so many people booing, yelling, and starting detroit sucks chants during Tallon's speech on Wirtz, which at times was tough to hear. As you all know I wasn't a big fan of Wirtz, but I stood throughout the entire thing and didn't say a word. I don't know what it was like around you guys but it was somewhat loud around me and no one was standing, people were just being assholes. You could at least suck it up for like 2 minutes and just shut up about it, but no, people have to be that disrespectful. That was pretty disappointing. Maybe I'm making a big deal out of it, but I just figured people would be quiet for 2 minutes, have moment of silence, and then rock and roll to the anthem. It was very amateur. Oh, and Detroit fans are still a bunch of obnoxious f***s. Constantly getting up/coming in during whistles, using profanity, and talking stupid. -
