I bet McBride will put up a triple double in leading this team to victory. No, i didn't feel like i even needed to put that in green. -

So we have Arizona today with: Randle out Jamar out Frazier might not play with a bad ankle, if he does he's not nearly 100% Carter is going to play on a bum ankle Semrau is not with the team If we can even be in this in the 2nd half i'll be surprised. We really have no chance going into a game for the first time in a long, long time. -

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) Charlie Weis may have been successful with the Patriots. But the fact remains that Ty Willingham, Bob Davie, or probably 50 NCAA coaches could have led the Irish to exactly the same record they have this year. In my mind, he hasn't done anything to set himself apart as a great NCAA coach yet. LOL are you serious? Ty Willingham? Fotop already covered this guy, but yeah...Ty Willingham could have done this. I have got to laugh at that. Also, Charlies is known as one of the best play callers in college football right now. This isn't anyone's opinion on here, this has come from people in the college football world who know more about the game than we all do. If you do watch every ND game, however, you notice his offensive play calling is pretty genius. The argument "a lot of coaches could have done what Charlie did" can be used for any coach who had success in college football this year, presumably. There's no way to prove it true or false, so you can just use it at will. Matter of fact, i'll say that i could have done the job Pete Carroll did this year at USC with that talent. There ya go, sounds brilliant, doesn't it? That's an "unbiased, truthful statement." Furthemore, if you are going to judge coaches purely by the talent level they have available (you seem to love the fact that they have quinn and other weapons on offense), then give credit to Charlie for working with piss poor defensive talent and getting something out of it. Not to mention that you are chalking up success in college football to purely talent and not scouting, game planning, play calling, etc. That's pretty ignorant. -

USF over WVU...Cincy over Rutgers... It doesn't quite have the dominant teams that people originally thought it did. In no way does that make it a 'deeper' conference, it just means the teams are a lot closer to each other than we thought. It doesn't, however, make them that much better due to those games. -

http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/ Kind of a nice point made here, for all you people in love with interpreting the word value: InTheMidnightHoward: The idea that MVPs should only come from the good teams is the most ass-backwards s*** ever. I made three-hunned thousand dollars last year and almost hit 60 homeruns. InTheMidnightHoward: You made fote-teen million dollars and did the same. InTheMidnightHoward: You pay fitty dollars for a hot dog that's the best f***in' hot dog in the got damn world, right, but if you pay a dolla for the same dog, that's value most value -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) The latest is that Alabama is nearing a deal with Rich Rodriguez. Those reports are originating out of West Virginia and Pat Forde of ESPN, not Alabama. Forde says Bama will make a formal offer after WVU's game Saturday. Greg Hunter, who works for the flagship station for Mountineer sports details potential contract dollars. He said on the radio here tonight, that insiders have been telling him for a week that if Alabama offers, Rodriguez will accept. West Virginia Metro News Personally, I think this would be a better hire than Spurrier. I heard a report on sporting news radio that said tonight Rodriguez called some radio show that was talking about him leaving WVU (i can't remember which city this was in or anything) and said that he's not going anywhere, that WVU is his dream job, etc. I know talk is cheap sometimes, but would he go out of his way to ask to be put on the air to clear things up? I would say no... -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 12:22 AM) 1 loss vs. 2. In a conference that over the past few weeks has proved it's not as good as some people originally thought. ************************** For all those people who are going to use the "Wisconsin played Michigan close" argument (keep in mind they lost by 2 touchdowns, not exactly a down to the wire game), i'm going to point to the "Wisconsin barely snuck by Illinois" argument. I can't stand people who use the margin of victory argument...i just proved you can frame it however you want to. I still haven't seen anything that shows me that Wisconsin is really THAT good. What are their biggest wins? Penn St at home and Iowa on the road? For all the b****ing that people have done about ND's schedule, the games they could control were not scheduled against cupcakes. Their nonconference schedule included BGU, WILL, SDSU, and Buffalo. They also didn't play OSU in Big Ten play. I realize that they can't get into the BCS anyway, but i just don't see how we know that they are as good as some people think they are. I'd certainly put OSU and Michigan ahead of them...way ahead. I also see no way in which OSU wouldn't beat them convincingly, regardless of venue. -

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) Former Walther Lutheran QB Bo Flowers is gonna play safety at Illinois. He was drafted by Detroit, and traded to the Cubs in the Farnsworth deal. I saw him play in the frontier league this year. Nice, i played against Bo Flowers in travel baseball when i was about 11 years old. The kid threw so hard at that age, he was unhittable to say the least.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) Mizzou manhandled Arkansas 86-64 to move to 8-0. It was Mizzou's first good win (Davidson and maybe a couple others are decent mid-majors, but mostly a cupcake schedule). Mizzou played very well and did it on national tv. The crowd was just short of 5,500 because of the storm, half the crowd was students or at least close, but it should mean more fans will come from now on. I want to get cocky and start trash talking U of I for the Braggin' Rights game, but it's Mizzou sports and the football team let me down so I'm going to stay cautiously optimistic. Anybody watch the game? I don't even know if we know where the trophy is for that anymore. Someone better go check storage closets just in case. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) This is one the dumbest arguments going. Notre Dame's schedule is set many years in advance. Notre Dame has always played the service academies. That's history. No worse than playing a Division I-AA school or one of the Louisiana directionals. Stanford, Purdue, UCLA, Michigan St are all traditionally respectable teams at minimum. The played Ga Tech and Penn St in addition to their more traditional rivals. So it didn't work out as the strongest schedule this year. But to act as if ND schedules weak intentionally is not only inaccurate, but ignorant how how college football works. This has been brought up so many times, and no one's ever had a decent response to it. All anyone says is OMG THEY PLAYED THE SERVICE ACADAMIES. As if they aren't allowed to have those games, considering othere teams' OOC schedule. Year to year, ND has what should be a pretty tough schedule based on the programs they schedule. End of story. -
One of my friends used to play this a ton. The way i understand it is that gold is used to buy things or help your character have better attributes and stuff. So yeah, there are gold farmers or what not that play the game to attain some gold, then sell it to normal gamers who are willing to pay cash for something that can be used in the game (the gold). I found it very ridiculous that this goes on.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) No, I'm not telling you that, you typed it. There are obviously exceptions to every rule, but in a case of 2006, when the numbers were semi similar, I look at the player that was most valuable to his team, like the award says. Don't like it? Then change the name of the award. Since when does it say most valuable to his team? It says valuable, period. You don't need to change the name of the award, i think everyone knows what it stands for. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) Worst Award Ever. It's the Most.Valuable.Player. Valuable. How much value did Howard have for the Phills? Instead of 4th place they came in 2nd... Cards without Albert finish behind the Reds...... It's easy. Have the MVP award, and have the best player award. That's such a stupid argument. Give it to the best player, period. I don't see how people turn it into most valuable 'to the team'. At that point it doesn't become an individual award, but an award based on many other factors. Are you telling me if a guy hit 150 home runs with 300 rbis one year and his team missed the playoffs, he wouldn't be the most valuable player? Please. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Yeah Hilton Magic exists, Jimbo's descrption is perfect, it is the "Bermuda Triangle" of college athletics. I've never seen anything like the stuff that happens in that place, and I don't know of a venue in sports that compares. This isn't a bad idea if Bruce feels Carlwell can handle the big minutes on both ends of the floor. The only problem with this idea right now is that Jamar isn't healthy. Once he is, i wouldn't mind that lineup. But it's clear now he should have sat saturday (even if we lost) because he was worthless last night and you need that injury to heal all the way before he's totally effective. Whether that's by saturday i don't know, but don't play em just to play em. -

Keep in mind this is all is in response to your 'Smith is the best pro prospect' statement. Never said Smith sucks. However, it's very obvious Quinn is going ahead of him in the draft. ND may have it's own tv station, but you make it sound like Smith had to really prove himself because he plays for the lowly OSU instead of the media hyped ND. Not the case at all, he gets noticed plenty, and the difference in hype due to school is negligible, IMO. He doesn't play for vanderbilt. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) I know Quinn will go #1, because the hype machine has been moving on him for almost two years now. Even though he has shown no real ability to lead a team to success, the physical aspects of him as a player will continue to draw praise, ESPECIALLY playing at the "great" Notre Dame. Troy Smith isn't even going in the first round huh? I want to know where you people are getting this. Does everyone think he is an Eric Crouch rerun or something? If the NFL draft was about leading teams to success it would look very different than it has the past few years. It's about tools, times, etc. You know this. It's not about won/loss record (though his isn't bad by any means) or national championships won. Not to call him Smith a Crouch, no, but look where he 'led' his team. Look where Cutler led his last year. Don't blame one player for wins/losses, it's clearly a team game. The 'hype machine' has been around because he's shown the tools for 3+ years now, unlike Smith who has suddenly become a 'good' quarterback for one season. And don't use the 'great' ND as an argument. Smith gets as much hype for playing at OSU as Quinn does playing for ND. -

“I hope everybody’s seeing that our team is for real,” Frazier said Saturday night. “We’re not a fluke. The big question is, ‘Dee (Brown) and James (Augustine) are gone. How are they going to be?’ I hope everybody’s seeing now.” “They still haven’t proven anything,” Weber said. “I’ve told them that. We basically survived these first games. “If they beat Maryland, it’ll be easier (to earn national respect). If they don’t, then shut up.”
