  1. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) palesox38 just so you know your soxtalk reputation rests upon this being true. I'm just the messenger. LOL. But I do realize that.
  2. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) Can someone explain to me what exactly we'd do with Mike Lowell... It's not like he deserves to take playing time from Crede this year... His offense sucks this year.. his defense not that great... Why not get someone who can play SS? I heard he will backup 3B and 1B. Not a bad backup.
  3. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) Link? Sorry, no link. It was reported on ESPN 1000. But according to them, Nightengale is very accurate.
  4. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) with who? Us? Sorry if its an obvious answer i wasnt here at all the past couple days Yes, us.
  5. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Burnett deal has been agreed upon as long as the Marlins will pay a portion of Mike Lowell's salary. Hopefully there will be more news soon.
  6. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) I can see this happening. I was just talking to my buddy about the Sox and Cubs (he's a Cubs fan) and I kind of started thinking that I would not be surprised if we got Burnett and then Kenny followed it up with a trade for a reliever. I bet he already has something in the works for the bullpen if we indeed give up Marte. So I can definitely see two big trades happening very quickly. I'll say it again though- Guardado is my guy. We need him. Kenny, let's get this done. I agree with you on Guardado. I think he is awesome. But I guess if we can't get him or Wagner, Baez is the next best thing.
  7. I'm sure by now all of you have heard that the Sox are interested in Aubrey Huff, but according to Jayson Stark, that deal would also include Danys Baez. He also stated that the sox want to make that trade as well as trade for Burnett. I say do it. Many may say that it effects chemistry too much, but I think thats a little over-rated. It would be great to pick up Huff, Burnett, and Baez. Two potential blockbusters. What a statement that would be!
  8. I was there Saturday, and I do like the Red Sox, but their fans made me want to hate them. They really reminded me of Cubs fans. Also, all of their reporters suck, too. They are almost worse than the fans.
  9. They probably are waiting for a lefty, I've heard Billy Wagner, Eddie Guardado, Scott Eyre, and Ron Villone.
  10. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 08:39 PM) could the Sox spin lowell of to another team for some prospects if they get him. What other team needs a 3rd baseman? Most likely they would keep him. Bruce Levine was saying that if the Sox also get Lowell that he would backup 3B and 1B. He also said that it will most likely happen the day of the deadline or very close to it. A Florida newspaper also said that its down to the White Sox and that basically it.
  11. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) So, does this make it more or less likely that Burnett will go to the Jays? It might make it more likely because the Blue Jays could figure they need to get another pitcher to make up for the loss of Lilly until both he and Halladay return. It might make it less likely because they could just decide to pack it in. Either way, this probably really affects our chances of landing Burnett. I really don't think it effects it at all because Bruce Levine was on ESPN 1000 today and said that its basically up to the Marlins to sign the papers for Burnett to become a White Sox.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) Mike Lowell is no longer required to be a part of any trade for Allan James Burnett. Where did you hear that?
  13. I personally want A.J. Burnett. i know Lowell would come too, but i think we need another starter. Plus, it would be awesome to have Mota, even if thats a slim to none chance.
  14. I was just wondering, how do you actually make a wallpaper or a sig?
  15. Has anyone ever been to one? I'm going to one for the Saturday game vs. the bosox and I was just wondering what they were like.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:56 AM) Am I the only one who prays that we don't get Burnett? We'd give up a ton for someone who I don't think would make a huge difference. I'd rather have him than The Cuban Pitching Crisis.
  17. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) McCarthy for A.J. straight up I would do. But no Damaso, no Anderson. He's gonna be a rental player. As the top free agent pitcher, the Yanks, the Sawks and even the Tigers will easily outbid us. I say McCarthy OK, anything else NO. He wouldn't be a rental because it has been said that he will only be traded to a team that will sign him, and according to Tim Kurchjian the Yankees and Red Sox aren't going to get him, he thinks we now have the best chance.
  18. The Orioles beat reporter, Gary Washburn, has said that the chances of the O's aquiring Burnett are lessening by the day. The Pirates have stated that they never had interest in Lowell and unless the O's decide they want to take on his contract, the O's will look toward Jason Schmidt or Jeff Weaver. On Pro Sports Daily, it says that if the trade falls through, the Marlins will turn their attention back to the White Sox. I personally think if the Marlins come back to us, we should do it. I think maybe we could get rid of Lowell one way or another, but its too good to pass up. Contreras for Burnett. I'd do it. Plus I heard that the Marlins are interested in Contreras as their closer.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) Jul 20 - Though the Marlins' proposed trade with the Orioles has cooled slightly, it is expected to get done, the Miami Herald reports. The deal now on the table would send A.J. Burnett and Mike Lowell to Baltimore in exchange for reliever Jorge Julio, outfielder Larry Bigbie, minor-league pitcher Hayden Penn and possibly reliever Steve Kline. The two clubs still are trying to iron out differences about how much each team would pay toward the remainder of Lowell's contract (about $21 million). The Marlins probably would have to absorb about $10 million of Lowell's contract for the Orioles to sign off on the deal. If the issue isn't resolved, it's possible Lowell might remain with the Marlins and suitors for Burnett could grow to include the Red Sox (offering a package headed by Bronson Arroyo), Blue Jays (Gustavo Chacin and bullpen arms) and White Sox (Jose Contreras and prospects). All about the Benjamins Jul 20 - According to the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, the Orioles don't want to Mike Lowell as part of any A.J. Burnett trade unless one of two things happens: The Marlins can take back right-hander Sidney Ponson, who is due $10 million in 2006, the final season of a three-year, $22.5 million deal. Or they can pick up a significant portion of Lowell's remaining contract. Lowell is signed through 2007 and owed about $21 million, including this season. Should the entire deal with Baltimore collapse, the Marlins likely would turn their attention back toward the White Sox, who have been actively scouting Burnett and have expressed some mild interest in Lowell, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports. But the White Sox are wrestling with whether to mess with the chemistry of the best team in baseball. I read that earlier and I hope Kenny is willing to do it because we would be even more scary to face than we are now and I still believe contreras is too much of a question mark to keep.
  20. I know this sounds like a stupid question, but how do you get the sox wallpaper apart of your messages?
  21. I just read on ESPN.com that basically the entire AL East is still interested in Burnett (I don't know the sox's stance). While I still think the O's have the best chance, (even though Gammons said if it wasn't done by noon yesterday, it wouldn't happen) could the Marlins be entertaining other offers?
  22. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) I have a feelings that Kenny is waiting for July 30th before he makes his moves. The asking price right now is just too unreasonably high. Why pay high now when you can get cheaper as we get closer to the trade deadline? Thats a good point, I wouldn't be suprised if he pulled of something suprising around then.
  23. My feeling is that, as the best team in baseball, we shouldn't stand pat when it comes to trades. I'm not saying we should make a trade just to make one, but I think you need to make the team better if you want to make it to the World Series. Look at what the Cards did last year, they traded for Larry Walker, but did they really need him? I really think that we should try and get an SP/3B. If Burnett goes to the O's, I think we really should try to make a push for Ted Lilly and possibly Joe Randa. On another note: I was listening to ESPN Radio last night and Gary Miller said that other American League teams should be terrified of the fact that the Sox are probably going to make a big trade.
  24. Peter Gammons said that if the trade doesn't happen by noon teusday, he doesn't think it will happen at all. Adding the bucs to this trade sounds like the o's are having a tough time getting it done, or maybe they are more reluctant than once thought.
