QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) Yeah but it still sucks Minnesota swept us at the Cell and won 2-3 in Minnesota. Not good. Exactly. Winning 1 of 3 in Minnesota is not good enough, we should have won on Friday, but The offense laid an egg against Boof.

QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) It's not even Detroit anymore. It's the Twins who have suddenly starting scoring and have the best ERA since the break. Not to mention the best all around bullpen. I agree the whole "isn't good" approach is a little too far, but I'm not convinced we are any better than the Twins or the Tigers at this point in the season. They are pitching, we are not. They're even starting to score at the same rate we are. There is plenty to worry about. At this point i wouldn't be surprised if the Tigers continue slumping and the Sox and Twins pass them up for the playoffs. Right now i would say the Twins are the best team in the division, and were 2nd.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 07:47 PM) He was not brought in to pitch like a typical 5th starter. KW would never have given up Chris Young and committed to pay Vazquez as much as he does for that. Of course I know that, but he was brought in to be the quote on quote 5th starter, and if Garcia and Buehrle were even close to their career avg's, we wouldnt be having this discussion. Also keep in mind that he did have a 4.47 era for AZ last season, and that was against weak NL competition, and especially NL West competition.....The reason KW acquired him was to give the back of our rotation stability, which he's done to some extent, and hope that Coop could turn him around. Well unfortunately that hasn't happened yet.....I for one wasn't thrilled that we acquired him, as i thought MCCarthy could have filled that 5th spot nicely, but then again I'm not the GM.

QUOTE(forrestg @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 06:46 PM) What is the matter with Cotts? He's not surprising the hitters anymore. Not to mention he only throws 1 pitch for strikes, (his fastball) and unless he's pinpoint with it, he's going to get hit hard...... He needs to start making more quality pitches and getting his breaking ball over. If he does that, he'll be fine

QUOTE(cmaff05 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) This is Javy Vasquez fellows. You get enticed by his great stuff and his great potential and he just sets you up for dissapointment. He had great years in 2002 and 2003 and the Yankees decide to take a chance with him. He responds by an almost 5 ERA in 2004 and a implosion in the Game 7 ALCS. He has a better year in 2005 in Arizona and you think he's healthy and still has his stuff and can dominant in the AL. The White Sox take a chance on him.. he dissapoints. It's a shame.. that's the story of his career... A guy with top of the rotation potential who pitches like a 5th starter. If Garcia hadn't lost 5 mph off his fastball, and Buehrle hadn't imploded these last 2 months, we wouldn't even be that down on Vazquez. He was brought in to be the 5th starter, and has actually performed up to those expectations. Problem is, his high contract, and subpar seasons by Buehrle and Garcia make him the scapegoat. Its unfortunate, but true. Now I'm not making excuses for Vazquez, he's been very frustrating to watch, but Garcia and Buehrle haven't been much better....... That being said, we need at least 1 of those guys to turn it on down the stretch, if were going to make the playoffs. Now I know Burhele has been better of late, but he hasn't been exactly lights out......

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) However I will give you he needs to be more consistent (the 2nd half of last year and 1st half of this come to mind). His era last year in the 2nd half was nearly identical to his 1st half. Run support was lacking for him in the 2nd half.
-
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 09:11 AM) he's been very impressive lately, no question about it. I think he has certianly surpassed Garcia and Vazquez in the order of guys you have confidence in heading towards the big games of September and October You can add Buehrle to that list as well

What a $hitty way to spend part of my Sunday afternoon watching this debacle.
-
Well thats a game i'd rather soon forget. Piss-poor performance all around. Now lets got beat on a slumping Tiger Team!!
-
and now here comes Mack. Oz is really overmanaging right now
-
Walker needs to get our O back on track, because our pitching isnt going to change much from what i see
-
Well at least he K'd swinging
-
And now Pods is hitting for Anderson, not sure how this is an improvement.
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) WTF happened to Cotts?!? Sheesh. Don Cooper my ass. How many pitchers from last year's staff have looked like crap this year? He's not surprising anybody anymore. He needs to locate his fastball better, and he also needs better command of his breaking ball, or he isnt going to get any better
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) Who said Cintron was on deck in the 1st place? If he wasnt then that was a real boneheaded move taking Uribe out. HE KILLS LH..............Forget it now, Cotts just blew any chance we had on coming back now......We suck
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) I still think it was the right call. Imo it wasnt, when was the last time Cintron hit RH? Not to mention Ricon was getting lit up. And Oz had to know Reyes was going to come in if he PH a LH there. BAd decision by OZ
-
Cintron swings at ball 3 and pops it up..........
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) Aw hell, now Ozzie starts bringing in the pinch hitters. Come on Alexi. I would have let Juan hit there, hes been better of late
-
QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) We need a blast Joe.... Basehit here will do, then hope Uribe can turn on one
-
Gotta get PK in
-
QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) Agreed. Game 1 of this series was VERY disappointing. Then there was the great pitching performance by Adam Bernero earlier in the week.... That's why those games against KC were so important. So if you lose 2 out of 3 in Minny it wouldn't hurt so much
-
Dye needs to get on here anyway possible
-
Santana out Rincon in. This is our only shot of coming back now, with Nathan lurking in the BP
-
QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) After Javy blew up for 4 runs someone said they now expected Santana to not give up another hit the rest of the game....He's pretty much doing it now. Pathetic performance, but Detroit is scuffling as well....should be an interesting week. Of course, the Twins play against (oh now), the Orioles and won't get Bedard (pitched -not well-today). I expect the Twins to at least take 2 of 3 from the Birds. Baltimore's been raking lately, it wont be that easy for Minny. I hope

Looks like the mostly RH lineup really worked well today
