By Marty Schubert View from a Fan July 21, 2005, 12:32 PM CDT As a diehard Sox fan that can still recite the playoff lineups and rotations for both the Sox and Blue Jays from the only pennant he ever saw in 1993, following the 2005 Sox from Buenos Aires has driven my neurotic fanaticism to another level. Whenever I have a free night, I find the nearest locutorio and sit in front of the computer for three hours - silently cheering as we "small ball" our way to victory. As the game plays out on the computer, countless Argentines glance at my screen, wondering how I could ever watch cricket when the fútbol game is on. In late June with A.J. Pierzynski on the verge of sealing another come from behind victory against the Dodgers, the café owner is tapping my shoulder, telling me that "estamos cerrados" (we're closed). I try to explain how A.J. is about to win it for us, but somehow Pierzynski doesn't translate well into Spanish. All of a sudden, BOOM. Walk-off home run for a White Sox winner. I yell out "yes," synchronizing my yelp with that of Hawk – only to realize that everyone in the cafe is staring at the loud foreign guy. Leaving the cafe content, I was able to sleep well knowing that the Sox were able to bring home another close one. But no matter how satisfying the wins are – even when you're thousands of miles from home – every victory makes me realize how much more satisfying it is to see those wins in person, on your field, in your home city. Although we've got a long way to go before the playoffs, the joy that this season has already given us is reason enough to treasure it while we can because it doesn't happen often. I hope all of Chicagoland White Sox faithful realize how lucky we are to experience a summer of winning baseball. Let's savor it while we can, get out to as many games as possible and "buckle up and hunker down" – Hawk Harrelson style – for a great second half. Contreras was awesome last night and, although some of you out there might want to criticize Ozzie for his use of the bullpen in the ninth, he looked like a genius when he pulled Contreras after 7+. Ozzie made sure his starter could not leave the game with a loss and Politte pitched wonderfully once again to get out of that eighth inning jam. Granted, he gave up the bomb to ARod in the ninth - but he had the two run lead and could afford to make that mistake. Kudos to Ozzie and Contreras.

With Frank out for the year and Carl nursing his groin back to health, our need for another bat has never been more obvious as it has been in the last two games against the Yankees. I mean, Timo batting fifth for the best team in baseball against the Yankees?!?!?!?!? Unacceptable. Granted, Carl got an AB tonight and I heard that he should be in the line-up tomorrow but it's not enough. When you lose future HOFer Frank Thomas for the year, you gotta make a move...or, at least, a better move than acquiring Geoff Blum. Blum's glove won the game tonight, but he can't hit squat. I'm not well-versed in what kind of talent is available off waivers so, Sox fans, tell me who we should pick up...And let's be realistic about this, so hopefully I won't be reading any Griffey posts. Borchard might be a good option...

I thought Freddy had good stuff last night. We need to start scoring some f***ing runs.

Uh, redandwhite, if the BoSox were in the AL Central, they'd be 8 games behind the White Sox. So until the Red Sox win another 8 in a row coupled with an 8 game White Sox skid, my vote goes to the White Sox.

Everyone needs to go to ESPN.com today and vote in their daily poll. The question today is, "Who is the best team in the American League?" The Red Sox are pulling about 34% compared to our 31%. Total BS. Get out there and vote for da Pale Hose!
