  1. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) In DC, it's easily: (1) Nationals (2) Orioles (3) Yankees (4) Red Sox (5) Mets (6) Phillies (7) Cubs (8) Everyone else I used to NEVER see any Sox hats around DC, except when the Sox were playing at Camden Yards. That was until the 2005 playoffs. Now you see a bunch of Sox hats. I remember the first time, I saw a lady in Giant wearing a Sox hat during the Boston series and I pointed out my own Sox hat. I'm the only Sox fan I know in DC (other than the people I know through the Sox e-mail list). I'm a Sox fan out in DC at Georgetown University and I've been pleasantly surprised myself. However, my friends out here still know me as THE Sox fan because there aren't too many of us. As far as DC locals, I'd agree that Nats-O's are 1-2. I'd say the Red Sox easily take the 3-spot in a landslide. Maybe my reality is slanted by the fact that I live in an area with lots of college students from all over the country, but I've never seen so many Red Sox fans outside of New England as I do here in DC. After that, I think I'd go Yanks in the 4-spot with the Mets, Phillies, and Cubs in any particular order. There are a lot of Chicago transplants out here, so I'd put the Cubs as high as fifth. As far as White Sox fans go, there's me, BlackBetsy, some kid I saw in the library wearing a Buerhle jersey, our starting point guard who I saw wearing a Sox hat one day (I saw him wearing an Angels hat the next day), and...um...Obama maybe?

    20-8

Winning 20 of 28 ain't a bad way to start out the season. I encourage everyone to check out the official MLB standings at MLB.com to experience how nice it looks to see your team at the top of your division with a big 20 under W. No one else can brag of a similiar number of wins or a higher winning percentage. It's a long season, but savour the flavor along the way if you can...
  3. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) Didnt get to see this cause I was at the game, but WOW. What a great tribute, my favorite part by far was all the players meeting up again in Spring Training. I dont know about you folks.... but damn this makes me HUNGRY. Not only did it make me hungry, it made me cry.
  4. Chris "He goes back and makes the catch" Singleton...I swear to God, that's his signature call.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) Rooney really did a great job of keeping him under control. Farmer in the captin chair= :uhoh But, speaking of Singleton...here's one of his calls from last half inning..."that's a fly ball...it's in the gap...Jermaine Dye goes back...and makes the catch." hmmmmm
  6. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) That is a sin dude. You can be shot for putting Katchup on a dog. The worst is when I see people putting it on a Polish w/onions, how dare they. Mustard only!!! I could not agree more. As for my two cents on the subject, just because I love the Sox increased attendance more than anyone doesn't mean I have to love the spiky haired moron from Elmhurst putting ketchup on his polish, throwing home run balls back, talking about how dangerous "downtown" is (a euphemism for any neighborhood within city limits), and - most importantly - STARTING THE WAVE. I hate The Wave. If anyone on this board calls themselves a Sox fan and has done The Wave, shame on them.
  7. We need a win tonight in a big way. If we recall last year, the Sox were amazing at avoiding three game losing streaks. I wanna say they never lost three straight until they lost 7 (or was it 8?) straight last August. It may only be April 7, but let's not set a precedent here by losing three straight. Garland's going 7+ tonight.
  8. QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) Let's put this in perspective: We took 1-of-3 from one of the better teams in the league. We dominated the first game, they dominated the second, and the third could've gone either way. It's not like we got beat 10-0 in each. Sabathia on the DL for 3-5 weeks is also a hell of a price to pay for winning a three-game series. Agreed. We b****ed enough on this board last season and we won 110 games. I can't imagine what it's going to be like now when everyone on here expects us to win 172...well...170...
  9. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) Once Contreras puts that first runner on, he starts pitching differently. we'll be fine. it's the top of the 1st of game #3, people.
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) I wouldn't say that he's terrible at play-by-play, but he's definitely a better color commentator. FWIW, I think that Singleton is better than DJ was when he started. Granted, that's not saying much, but I could actually stand to listen to DJ after a year or so. I don't think Singleton is that bad. Everyone's mad because Rooney is gone, which is totally understandable. I bet that after a few months, we'll get used to Singleton and Farmer in the booth. I really don't think they're that bad. In fact, I might go so far as to say that they're better than Hawk and DJ (which, I understand, is not saying much. I will say, however, that I love hearing Hawk talk about "Country Strong" Thome/call his home run bombs.) But I digress... Bottom line is that Singleton is no DJ and that Singleton and Farmer have only been working together for TWO regular season games. Let's have the discussion in June and see where we stand.
  11. You guys see Doyel's article on CBS.Sportsline.com about the Hoyas being able to beat ANYONE? I'm digging the national respect but I feel like whatever Doyel says, it eventually turns to s***. If the Hoyas play their game, I think we can beat Florida. Comments?
  12. http://imageevent.com/dreamkast/mlbb click on image 44 of 98. it's got two sox players, and it reads "borchard and gload - best 1-2 combo in the bigs." is this a joke? i've definitely got this as my background 'cause it's so ridiculous.
  13. So obviously, this thing at the White House isn't open to the public but I wonder if it's worth going down there on Monday to see if there's any buzz. Anybody know what time this thing is going down? Probably not worth it to go down there but I only live a mile and a half from the White House...
  14. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) I heard Rowand accepted an opportunity to speak about the White Sox, but instead of directing praise towards the team , will bring up his hatred for the Iraq War. Afterwards, we'll debate whether or not it's appropriate, since the war did happen to occur during the 2005 season--thus making it an important backdrop to our championship run. Just kidding. Trying to incite trouble. Although I believe Cindy Sheehan is a HUGE White Sox fan, and deserves an invitation to the event. speaking of politics, flash tizzle, you're avatar is ridiculous...
  15. http://www.postgazette.com/pg/05005/437358.stm Article from last year. This guy was WRONG. Hoyas, baby.
  16. 21/27...if i got any more correct, i'd be worried.
  17. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) Yeah give GW some props for their top 250 schedule (240). They have zero wins against the RPI top 25. Sounds like a top team to me. Speaking of GW, here's a good article about a possible GW-Georgetown showdown on CBS Sportsline. http://www.sportsline.com/spin/story/9195138/1 I'd kill for a GW-G'Town match-up this year. G'Town's got those four losses, but our conference is a FAR cry from the A-10. Look for G'Town to roll again DePaul tomorrow night and pull off another upset at the MCI Center against Pitt on Sunday. Hoyas, baby.
  18. Who has the Big Frank A's avatar? I gotta see it to believe it. It's gonna be so weird seeing him in an A's uni...
  19. How do you guys feel about G-Town being ranked and - more importantly - will they stay there?
  20. Just wanted to say that I was at the Georgetown game yesterday and it was SICK. I ran out on the court and we tried to hoist Hibbert but he's 7'2'' so it was kinda awkward. The Big East is dominant. Georgetown ran that backdoor like it was their f***ing job. Biggest win EVER. It's a great time to be a senior at Georgetown. A White Sox World Series, a Bears divisional crown, and a Georgetown upset = sweetest sports season ever. Hoya Saxa.
  21. Dylan, I PMed you about possibly writing for you. I'd never PMed someone before, so let me know if you got it.
  22. f*** it...let's trade bmac and count for tejada
  23. QUOTE(Chi Town Sox @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) Sorry if this is the wrong thread, but does anyone know where I can get a Joe Crede Jersey-T-shirt. These are the black shirts with the sox logo on the front left on the chest with the name and number on the back. I haven't been able to find any Crede's let alone a size Small in them. Any help would be appreciated grandstand's your best bet over by 35th and wallace
  24. The Sox two class A affiliates, Kannapolis and Winston-Salem, are ridiculously close to each other. When you throw AAA Charlotte in the mix - which is just a close - you can basically drive up and down I-77 and see half of the White Sox entire farm system. Did we plan it like this? Convenient for scouts? Convenient for FutureSox.com addicts? Road trip anyone?
  25. I just watched 2005 Top Plays at the official Sox site. Unbelievable.
