  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) The financial flexibility alone could net the Reds AJB in the offseason which would give them potential top of the line starter to put in their crappy rotation. why the hell would burnett come to the reds
  2. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) That last line is right, in the world called No Contracts. If JR says, it's okay Kenny, pick up all of Player X's contract, let's say, oh I don't know, $41.5 million over four years with a $4.5 mil buyout option for the 4th, and give them some lower level prospects, that might do it. Because their season is over and like someone said, they can use that money to get some pitching in the offseason. I'm also not saying it's going to happen, but with contracts and how much each is going to pay, that could raise or lower the level of players going to a team. What Kenny should be doing is selling the Lee for Pods and Viz trade. Gave away a big hitter, but got 5 in return by saving money. wrong. i dont know where people get this idea, but we have no, NO money problems
  3. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) I signed up and it wouldn't let me go to your link. just checked it out, yea, the guy over there merged it with another jr link. for you lazy chicagoans or whatever it is By JOE KAY CINCINNATI (AP) - Ken Griffey Jr. has no desire to leave his hometown team, his agent said Monday in response to another round of speculation that the Cincinnati Reds would consider trading the outfielder. Chief operating officer John Allen said there was no truth to reports out of Chicago that the Reds and White Sox were working on a deal for Griffey, who has the right to block any trade. Reports have popped up in various forms since July. The 35-year-old Griffey has the final say over whether he is dealt. As a player who has spent 10 years in the majors, the last five with the same team, Griffey has the right under baseball's collective bargaining agreement to block any trade. His agent said Monday he doesn't want to go anywhere else. "Junior is not looking to get out of Cincinnati," agent Brian Goldberg said. "If the Reds want to initiate a trade and seek his approval, that's their prerogative and Junior and I would deal with that if they were to come to us." So far, the Reds have not. Griffey's renaissance season - a .302 average, 33 homers, 90 RBIs - has revived his career and his popularity in Cincinnati. He is tied for 13th on the career homer list with Jimmie Foxx at 534, two shy of Mickey Mantle. Griffey is still the best draw on the Reds' roster, the one player who can get fans interested in coming to the ballpark to see him take a swing at history or make a sensational play in center field. Any deal involving the outfielder would have to be approved by Reds owner Carl Lindner, who brought Griffey home in February 2000 on a nine-year, $116.5 million deal that runs through 2008. Lindner has given no indication he would approve a trade unless Griffey asks to leave. Allen confirmed that there have been no discussions with Griffey about a deal. "The continued pending trade reports this past weekend regarding the Reds and the White Sox are rumors and there's no merit to them," Allen said in a phone interview Monday. "In addition, it should be remembered that Ken is a 5-and-10 (year) player and would have to be involved in any discussion in that regard. "We have not and do not intend to have any such discussions with Ken and his agent." Trade speculation will become moot at midnight Wednesday. Any player dealt after that deadline won't be eligible for the postseason. The speculation involving Griffey underscores his remarkable comeback from his worst injury. Griffey tore his right hamstring from the bone and had it reattached with three titanium screws last August, jeopardizing his career. The hamstring hadn't fully recovered by spring training. He got off to a slow start, but has looked like the old Junior since July. His 16 homers since the All-Star break are the most in the majors, and he's hitting .370 in August with 10 homers and 19 RBIs. Griffey is hitting .458 during a 14-game hitting streak, kept intact Monday when Cincinnati's game in Pittsburgh was rained out. His contract calls for base salaries of $12.5 million in each of the next three seasons, plus an option for 2009 at $16.5 million. The club could buy out the option year for $4 million. In all, Griffey is owed $41.5 million after the 2005 season, so he wouldn't be a short-term or cheap fix for any playoff contender looking to add another slugger. Griffey expects to stay in Cincinnati. "There's no use talking about hypotheticals here because nobody from the Reds has asked us about any kind of trade," Goldberg said. "As long as nobody asks, we have to assume there is nothing in the works."
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) Signed up. Basically saying we're desperate and that if we really want Griffey, KW would make it happen. really? where did you read that
  5. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) Well I'm not going to sign up. LAZY people get no help from me. if you are spending time on the net, yet dont have 2 min to sign up for a site, then i guess you dont care what it says

  7. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) I see RDriesen lurking... Whats the story on the Cincinatti side? Are you hearing anything that we arent hearing? Whats your feel on whats gonna happen(if anything) my feeling is, he isnt going anywhere. i dont think he wants to. people dont seem to understand it, but he loves playing in cincy and loves his teamates. thats important to griffey, hes not your typical superstar. does he want to win a WS, OF COURSE. but i just dont see him leaving cincy for the sox. the only way he ever leaves is if its to a team thats almost guaranteed to win it all or at least be in the series. i know, that no one is a guarantee, but i think you know what i mean its not even being talked about really. its talked about by callers on radio but only based on what they hear from chicago media.
  8. some of you need to realize the reason you are hearing comments like that from cincy players/coaches is because the CHICAGO media wont shut the hell up. this thing has been dead for a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time. it isnt talked about in any media outlet in ohio except to refute what a chicago person says. the players and coaches are getting sick and tired of being asked 1million times everyday by chicago media and such about it. what do you expect. i love how when you have a chance to get the guy, no bashing, all love. then the min it turns sour, some start complaining and bashing like youve never heard. griffey doesnt want to move. so what, move on. thats life
  9. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) Well, f*** the Reds. Maybe they should take a look at the standings before putting up an article about another team losing. LOL, you need to get a grip buddy. it said as the sox keep losing. implying, as they continue to struggle(WHICH THEY ARE) they need to find something to help them out. which is true. i see the sox doing exactly what the m's did that one year. be unbelievable in the reg season, do nothing as far as trades, then come playoffs, DUD. i hate to say it, cause i would like to see the sox do well, but thats just the way it looks. right now, i would take the red sox and a's over the white sox, and i think they would have to play one of those 2 teams in the playoffs. if they get someone else, they got a good shot
  10. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) I was thinking along the same lines. It would be a near-certainty that Rogo is not included in the deal. Spitballing: Young + Honel + Mid-level pitching prospect + Ability to take on a considerable amount of $. as a reds fan, NO THANKS
  11. QUOTE(Adam G @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) I heard it, he was on the Tom Sher (sp?) show earlier today where he said just what was posted. The Griffey rumor is "red hot" right now and he thinks that Griffey might be in a Sox uniform by this time tomorrow. The players have been agreed on, the Sox bumped up their financial offer, they need Griffey to come out publicly and say he's in favor of this so the Reds' fan base doesnt hate the new management. you may be right on what was reported, but what was reported is totally wrong. we already hate, no HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! our management and owner and whoever else is involved. and THEY KNOW IT. they are idiots and everyone wants them all gone. so to say that is wrong. they want jr to say it publicly so the casual fan who knows nothing except may go to a game or 2 cause griffey is on the teams wont complain. the smart, hard core reds fans hate the management. have since they were brought in. and while we would like griffey to stay a red, we know its better for our team to trade him or casey and know one wants casey. so there you go. if griffey isnt traded, good, if he is, good. its really win/win for us. if we keep him great, we keep a great player and get to see him set all kinds of records. if we trade him, we free up a lot of salary which hopefully a NEW management will spend wisely. the reason a lot dont want him moved is A. we are fearfull of what our gm will ask for cause he is a moron B. we are fearfull of how he will spend the extra money cause he is a moron

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) There's really noone out there. Ken Griffey Jr. is the most realistic bat for the Sox to pick up. According to reports, KW has made a huge push for Griffey but Linder (majority owner of the Reds) has nixed the trade. There's not much more KW can do on the Jr. front, the ball is in the Reds court now. no offense, but what kw offered the reds was not a "huge push". you arent gonna get anything worth getting if you think thats a huge push
  13. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) These dog days of August sure are strange. Among the Reds headlines "Lindher calls Griffey Jr". It turns out he wanted to offer him tickets to a Tennis tournament his family sponsors or something like that. If it was just a call based on his Griffey Jr's wife's love of Tennis then why make it on the eve of the tournament? Why not last week when KGJ's family could prepare? It turns out his wife is coming up to OH for the weekend so she's sure to enjoy the tickets. But I can't help but think that Lindher was really trying to feel Griffey Jr out. The rumor's not going away. It's selling papers & ESPN. ESPN finds it more noteworthy to show a clip of Sox fans chanting "Griffey" than the game itself. It's selling MLB in general. Lindher probably can't watch TV, read the paper, or listen to the radio without hearing/reading Ken Griffey Jr's name. The fact that KGJ is the hottest player in MLB right now only fuels the interest. The last time MLB's head was swirling in regards to a player like this was A-Rod. We all know what happened in that story. The Sox could pull 1/2 a million more fans than 2004 this year. If they can get past the first round they might be in store for 100% growth in season ticket holders. There is that much riding on the line this year. Now maybe Lindher was just playing games with a Sox fans. Maybe the call was just about tennis & maybe the fact his family sponsors the event just slipped his mind a week ago. Regardless it still creates an opening for the WSox & KW needs to be relentless for the next 13 days to try & convince Lindher the Reds would be better with what the WSox have to offer. It's not about KGJ being the savior for the White Sox. This team remains the best combination of pitching & defense in the league. It might not own the best record in MLB but when you combine the pitching & defensive stats it's the stingiest team in baseball. With KGJ it just becomes a more potent & dangerous team. Pods-Iguchi-Griffey Jr : would be the best top of the order in MLB. Add that to the stingiest team in MLB & a championship is expected. you need help bad
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) No way in hell do I move Arow from CF. He's earned that spot. Griff can take the DH spot or play some corner OF. The only time I want Griffey in CF is to give Rowand a rest . jr cant play the corner of spots or 1b, which is why we havent moved him. 1b causes him to do too much instant stretching and the corner outfield spots causes him to throw on the breaks and many other things that are bad for his leg. the running is not the problem
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) That's pretty f***ing stupid basing the production of a leadoff hitter on his OPS. That is the one stat that does not apply to the #1 hitter in your lineup. Podsednik is not expected to have a high Slug. gotta agree. i look at pitches per ab, obp, runs scored when looking at leadoff men
