  1. In reference to mlbtraderumors.com, I thought that this was funny: Why would the Sox care about the Cubs convention? A Tejada trade announcement would be huge, and he could do the coin toss at the Bears game with Thome, Mack, and Vazquez.
  2. QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) Something about Contreras still smells like Esteban Loaiza to me. I think his trade value has definitely peaked. They both are sponsored by Old Spice, so that may be why. I think that Count, Uribe, Sweeney, and a pitching prospect for Tejada alone would be a huge win for the O's, and a loss for the Sox. The O's could let Count walk after 2006 and would have a lot of salary flexibility and still have Uribe for cheap, Sweeney, and a pitching prospect. The Sox would only have Tejada, but that is still huge just not enough. If the O's gave up a couple of million or a reliever, it would make it very interesting.
  3. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) while this story is certainly believable, i'll withhold my judgement until it plays out in court. already there are reports out this way that now the victims aren't "sure" it was clarett, and some even said he has a great alibi and wasn't even in columbus that night. that's just rumor though. we just have to wait and see. what can't be denied is that he blew it huge. anyone who's ever spent any time in columbus knows what kind of treatment former football players get. if he would have played the good soldier for another year or two, he would be a legend here. That is funny about the witnesses. They probably said they saw a guy wearing Clarett's jersey, so it must me him. He still has some speed, so it is possible that he ran out of town really fast.
  4. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) I messed up my post, it meant to be who cares b/c if we win that is all that matters. I am a bad typer today. Oh ok, that makes more sense. I was like what the hell. Yeah I could care less about draft picks if it means a Super Bowl title.
  5. I didn't think it was that big of a deal. It is only worth one point, and why use it when you can just kick an extra point? Was that something like Flutie's last request? I have always like Flutie, he reminds me of the movie Rudy. He always seemed to play against the odds. I guess this is just another example.
  6. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser were discussing this on PTI the other daym and Tony mentioned that it is widely known that Clarett was very jealous of LeBron being able to jump straight to the NBA and make all of those millions of dollars in contracts and endorsements, while he had to wait it out playing football at Ohio St. Maurice Clarett always had a high sense of self entitlement and couldnt understand why he couldnt do the same thing, because for his entire life nobody told Maurice "No". I think the window of opportunity finally slammed shut on this character. Clarett is going to end up in Sports Trivial Pursuit as the answer to this question: "Which College Football Player screwed up his life almost as bad as Lawrence Phillips?" Thats pretty funny about PTI, I read something about it awhile ago. This thug does not deserve another chance, but for some reason I think he will get another shot in a year or two.
  7. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) Studes, in the article you linked says the following: Yep, that is correct, but that goes for ALL past performances. Win Shares just puts all the stats into an easy rating scheme for comparisons. There is no way to predict what each individual player will do, and when they will do it, but you can get a ball park figure as long as the player plays close to his past performances.
  8. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 12:27 AM) When people talk about the SI cover snub, they mean the official weekly publication. For instance, if you had a subscription to SI, you would have only gotten the one that Greasy posted. The cover you posted was a special commemorative edition dedicated entirely to the Sox. I'm not positive, but I believe you can only buy it in stores in the Chicagoland area. Ordinarily, the champ of a major sport will appear on the cover of the weekly edition. Not so with our Sox. The Sox DID appear on the cover, except they were in the little circle at the top. Which is just crazy for a major sports championship not to garner the cover's main spread. SI blew that one, and they said it was because the series ended in the middle of the week, but they could have ran it the following week, which they didn't. Just another snub for the Sox. Doesn't really matter though, because a World Series championship trumps the cover of SI about 1,000,000 to 1.
  9. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) Have to wonder now if the Astros may look into dealing Willy T to the Sox now that they have three set outfielders that is if Lane plays center, would make some sense because then they would also get another pitcher and all of a sudden Astros might be a team to beat in the NL. I just don't see why the Sox would want Taveras. They still have the pipeline for Outfielders so adding him would be a waste IMO. I would rather add some solid relievers and a high pitching prospect for Count.
  10. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) Who cares if we win the Super Bowl b/c that is the only way we get the last pick. But I want one of the Lewis, Davis, Pope and either one of them can bring this offense to the next level. Davis the most followed by Lewis and then Pope. Who cares if we win the Super Bowl? Me. Also, it has a lot to do with the draft picks. Davis would be a great pick, but he will not be around that late. Pope seems to be the most realistic pick.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) Dude, TO will get another chance. Why? Because he has, um, what' the word...talent? The guy was drafted by Denver, way higher than he should have been. Name a better place for a running back than Denver. Denver couldn't figure out a way to turn him into anything. No one else will either. The guys is just lost. If he stays at Ohio St for 2 more years and enters the draft as a Junior he makes millions. Instead he tries to get around the system with some bad advice, loses out on the NFL and college. Then sits around watching his buddy Lebron James make bazillions right out of high school, takes too much time off, and is horribly out of football shape when he goes to Denver. If someone knocked some sense into this thug, he trained like mad for 6 months, someone would pick him up as insurance at least on the practice squad. I have seen crazier things happen.
  12. All the "experts" are saying that Leinart would pull an Elway/Manning and refuse to play for New Orleans if they selected him, so it is possible he could go to TEN, NYJ, OAK, or BUF. I wonder what will be left for the Bears to pick at #32?
  13. QUOTE(Cleats67 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) Nice article, however, I am suprised more of you didn't catch the fact that he makes out like he was a big time Cub fan for years who was "converted" this year. If he was such a big Cub fan, why would he have a Carlos Lee jersey from 4 years ago? Call me crazy, but I am a diehard Sox fan and it would be a cold day in hell before I ever purchased ANY type of Cubs merchandise, (outside of Cubs toilet paper) let alone a jersey, EVER. I think all true Sox fans would feel the same way. He did say he was a fairweather fan, so I assume he bought it after the 2000 season. I agree though, I have never been a Cubs fan and will never be one.
  14. Yep, it is official: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article...e2005&fext=.jsp Wilson should be an upgrade for them.
  15. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 06:29 PM) He's quoting Studes, not James. Looking at a WS article that James wrote, I can't find that quote verbatim, but I think it's a fair summary anyway. I'm not sure where the "Whoa" comes in, I don't know why that statement would be controversial... Thats true, I got the info from here: http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/...es-have-arrived
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) I bet it was close to watching Uribe. Almost identical, just pick a half: Pre All-Star 6 HR, 38 RBI Post Al-Star 10 HR, 33 RBI The only difference is where they bat in the lineup.
  17. QUOTE(VenomSox @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Who do you think the bears will be on the bears radar. I do not really follow college football that much. Davis would be awesome, but who knows what will be available at the last pick in the 1st round.
  18. With Sherman being fired, it is hard to see the Packers front office keeping Favre around when they are trying to rebuild and get younger. Will Brett really want to learn a new offense this late in his career? I thought Favre treated the whole Rodgers thing poorly for a veteran QB. Instead of taking the guy under his wing, Favre seemed to be offended that the Packers drafted him. Then he controlled when he would come out of the game, and not the coach? There was no reason why Rodgers couldn't have gotten more reps than he did this year with how bad the Pack played. A large part to the Packers problem this year was Brett's interceptions. He almost averaged 2 per game. It is hard to win when you turn the ball over that much. The Packers are not going to be any better next year with Favre at QB, so they might as well bring in Rodgers.
  19. I heard he had a really good 40 time when he ran away from the scene of the crime. The witnesses said he had some really good moves too. Just like some of the other thugs in pro sports today (Jamal Lewis), I am sure he will get another chance and sign on with some desperate team.
  20. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) I understand that, but my other question was "Did James really say that?" Yes James said that. It is the basis for Win Shares. Team wins not pitcher wins.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) ^^^ Except there would be about 50x as many numbers. I toned it down a little before posting.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) Don't you have anything else to do besides analyze every aspect of the White Sox organization??? But you get major props! At first I just wanted to see if there was a tough stretch like in 2005, but then I went thru the entire schedule in about 20 minutes and thought I would share what I came up with.
  23. I was taking a look at the 2006 schedule to see how it compared to the 2005 schedule. I remember the 15 game stretch in August where the Sox only played the Twins, Sawks, and Yanks, and was curious to see if there was another one of those stretches in 2006. Here is what I came up with month by month: April: * Play 12 games vs winning teams and 12 vs losing teams (I counted TOR as a winning team) * Don't play back to back winning teams until LAA and CLE (Apr28-May2) May: * Play 18 games vs winning teams and 11 vs losing teams * Only 2 days off * Have 2 tough stretches - 7 games vs LAA and MIN 9 game vs OAK, TOR, and CLE June: * Fairly easy month * Play 10 games vs winning teams and 17 vs losing teams * 12 Interleague games (STL and HOU back-to-back @ home) * Only 1 game vs a winning team away from home July: * Easiest month * Play 9 games vs winning teams and 16 vs losing teams * Do not play consecutive winning teams this month August: * Play 12 games vs winning teams and 16 vs losing teams * Play 20 straight games September/October: * The hardest month on paper * Play 19 games vs winning teams and 10 vs losing teams * 16 straight games * Sep 5th - 17th - 13 game stretch (3 @ BOS, 4 vs CLE, 3 @ LAA, 3 @ OAK) 2006 Season - * 12 Road Trips * Longest Road Trip - 9 games So it looks like May and September are the only difficult months, and it looks like the Sox have a good chance to put up a lot of wins from June-August. It seems like the one 13 game stretch in September is the only huge challenge. Overall, not that bad of a schedule.
  24. QUOTE(Chi Town Sox @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) what does the world series have in common with a bear not wearing a condom? NO CUBS Shouldn't it be wearing a condom = NO CUBS.
  25. Ok, a new version is available for download here: http://www.pcgamingtech.net/downloads/soxtalk.xpi It should update the current one to v0.11. I put the links up top and made their own menu since that menu could get pretty long. I was not able to add the Rotoworld link :-( because for some reason Firefox does not like links with & signs in the URL for Extensions. I inquired about this at the Dev forums so hopefully someone has a workaround and I can add it later.
