  1. I wonder is KW is trying to work any multi team deals using this as leverage. Give up Garland and get some top prospects from more than one team.
  2. QUOTE(SouthPaw @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) yup Awesome thanks. Great work! What app are you using?
  3. QUOTE(SouthPaw @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 02:06 AM) Well, I made this a few weeks ago for my brother's yearbook. Unfortunately he was unable to use it for what ever reason. If you would like something changed just let me know. Or if you don't want to use it, its all good That is sweet, do you have it without the text on it?
  4. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) http://www.igottohavethat.com/ these are the best ones out there, the world series black bat has been sold-out for awhile though. As for plastic cases or holders, I'd check a local sportscard store. Thanks! Now do you know if these are the limited edition bats, ie 5,000 made. If so, then I assume these are sold out for good. I found the standard WS Champion bat (not black), so I will buy one of those to ensure I at least get one.
  5. When the Bears clinch the Division on Christmas, it will mark the 1st time EVER that the Bears and White Sox both won their Divisions in the same year. Hopefully the Bears can go all the way and add a Super Bowl title to the White Sox World Series title. The funny thing is that both of these teams got no respect for most of the year. I think they both were predicted to finish last or near last in their respective Divisions.
  6. That lineup will be good enough for 3rd place in the Central.
  7. Juan Encarnacion is horrible, he had one or two OK seasons, other than that, he had been borderline Minor leagues. 724 Ks to 240 BBs lifetime. More K's than RBIs or Runs. Ouch! No wonder he has been on 6 teams in 6 years. So this equals an upgrade for all the other NL Central teams.
  8. It was just some B12 vitamins from Tejada.
  9. Red Sox signed former Yankees backup catcher John Flaherty to a $650,000, one-year contract. This was Boston's attempt to get back at the Yanks for the Damon deal. Nice try Boston!

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 05:33 PM) Don't go too far out on a limb... Vazquez has won between 10-16 games every year for the last 6, and the Yanks were the only team that he was on that was actually decent when he won 14. So it is fairly safe to say 14-17 wins with the Sox in 2006, especially if Coop can work some magic.
  11. I was saying if the Sox offered something lower than the going rate, which is inflated, and then Boras asks for something higher than the norm. The Sox either have to take their offer or go to the hearing, since you know Boras is not going to come down. I would think that he would get at least $3 million in the current market. Also, Third basemen were the highest-paid players at an average of $5.7 million.
  12. striker62704, You are pretty much spot on, but that $75 million is equal to last years payroll and you only list 18 players. You forgot Jenks, and then like you said, you have to add Mackowiak, Crede, and Garland. Then you have to fill out the other 3 roster spots. So it is going to be in the $90 million range once the roster is complete.
  13. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) The Sox don't go to arb hearings. They meet all reasonable offers. Boras has no leverage in this situation. They will, at the very least, work out 1-year deals for each of the next two years. Boras is such a non-factor here. You guys are making a mountain out of a molehill. What happens if Crede rejects the Sox "reasonable offer"? They go to an arb hearing. How much do you think the Sox are willing to pay Crede for a one year deal?
  14. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) This is correct. 2006 = First year of Arbitration 2007 = 2nd " " " 2008 = 3rd " " " It's not until 2008 that Crede is in the same boat as Garland. Yeah, but the Sox hate going to Arb hearings, and you know Borass will do that every year to try and squeeze every penny out of them. I figure if they have to go thru one this year, 2006 will be Joe's last on the Sox.
  15. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) If I had to guess, Crede will be this team's starting third baseman in 2006; he'll be involved in rumors around the trade deadline and will be playing baseball in another city in 2007. The only reason his situation is different from Garland's is because we do not have an MLB or near-MLB ready third base prospect ready to step in and take his spot. It's safe to say Fields is more than one year away with those high K totals and underwhelming play. He'll be here for at least the first-half of 2006, after that, it's anyone's guess. I would agree, but I still think there is a higher chance that he will be moved before ST than there was a couple of weeks ago. If the Sox can get a comparable 3B without back problems in a trade involving Garland, Joe will be gone. The only other scenario was if Joe dropped Borass, but that is unlikely because Borass will get him the best contract.
  16. If Salary Cap is not an option, then they need to do something along the lines of arbitration on how salaries are determined. Each player gets put into some type of category based off their performance for the year, last 3, and career, etc, etc. Then the teams can negotiate within that window. The flex room would come in incentives. Have you seen some of the crazy salaries from contracts signed years ago? They are hilarious. Jeff Bagwell is going to make something like $17 million this year, signed thru 2007 Jason (I robbed the Big Hurt) Giambi will make $18 million in 2006, and that jumps to an absurd $21 million in 2007 & 2008. Mike Hampton? $13.5 million for 2006. Todd Helton? $16.6 million and he is signed thru 2011.
  17. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) Because that would destroy the MLB's secret agenda of the Yankees having a chance to win the World Series every year. Damn, you beat me again. I was thinking, "Then what would the Yankees do?"
  18. Now if you were Jon, would you rather play on a Championship team for $8 million a year, or a losing team willing to pay you $10-11 million a year?
  19. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) If there was a salary cap in baseball, the problem would solve itself. Yep, you beat me to the punch. Why has this not been discussed before?
  20. There is a pretty good thread covering this in TW. Basically, Garland's agent has told the Sox there will be no negotiations on a new contract. Doesn't matter what the Sox offer in terms of years or money. Garland wants the leverage. Crede will not sign a long term deal here, because it's Boras' job to get the player to free agency. Contreras turned down the first team offer, but he is the most likely to sign a deal.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) - He also said that Crede will not sign a long term deal here, that it's Boras' job to get the player to free agency (duh). I have a feeling that this will backfire on him in the long run.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) Those things don't exist in baseball anymore, period. You can't blame either side for what they want and have to do in this situation. So AJ siging a 3yr $15 million contract to stay with the Sox is not loyalty, when Ramon Hernandez signs a $27.5 million, four-year contract? Chipper Jones restructured his contract to lower his salary. It happens all the time. There is always someone to blame. It doesn't just happen and both sides wake up and go "Oh darn we are really in a difficult situation". Jon has always made comments on how he would like to pitch on the left coast, closer to home. He just never had the leverage to do anything about it because he was not a hot commodity. The Sox stayed with him for all those 12-12 years with 4.50 ERA's. What do they get in return? This situation. So I have to put the blame in Jon's court. I understand he is due a fair contract, but he can easily be a one year wonder since that is all he has done in his career.

He said he was happy to be on the Sox of White and he thinks the Cooper of Don can help him win veinte games next year, whatever that means.
