QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) Calm down, gramps. This team needs to do many things to start winning again. The key is starting pitching. We've got 1 starting pitcher with an ERA under 4.50. If the starting pitching doesn't come around in a consistent way, we're cooked. Ozzie needs to do a better job of handling the SP's and the bullpen. The problem is that he doesn't know how to do it and I doubt he's going to learn any time soon. And of course the team needs more consistent hitting. Not just a few hits a game including a couple homers. That isn't going to get it done. But I think one of the biggest problems is that this team doesn't have the fire in the belly to win quite enough. They don't show the hunger they had last year. They aren't fighting for it like they did last year. Ozzie needs to do something about that. That's his job. For some reason I'm fighting the urge to make a diaper comment.... As for your post.. well no kidding the Sox need to make some changes. As for your attack of the "stay positive" crowd, maybe you could just skip the threads that are clearly doing that if it bothers you so much.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) Yeah, I was referring to Sandy. With our current group of guys (for the next 3 years or so), he'd be a great leader of them. I haven't seen this mentioned, but Thome was saying in the paper how he just thinks Sandy is the nicest guy he's ever met, etc. Here's an observation I have about Ozzie....he's a much better manager when he has a group of scrappy players who feel like they have to overachieve to win. It might sound funny, but we might have too much talent this season for Ozzie to properly manage them. When you have this much talent, sometimes the best thing to do is just get out of their way and let them manage themselves. Worked last year.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:35 AM) Was just sent this link from someone: http://fireozzie.blogspot.com/ I thought this was around last September?

The rest of this year - not including playoffs... I'm going to Philly next Sat/Sunday, Hawaii 9/23 to 10/3, and Florida 11/15 to 11/20.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) He was there, the memory must be going already. Whew.. I thought it was another brain cell lost on this end.

QUOTE(SnB @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:19 AM) now this new development just keeps pissing me off more. It just seems like ozzie cares more about settling personal grudges right now instead of winning ballgames. Can you imagine if we didn't win last year? He'd be as good as gone. I really do think upper management is having major problems with him as of late. Weren't you in the car last night..? I agree his priorities are a bit off right now, but I don't think he's in any jeopardy - at this point - with his job. I think (just me, no other info) they are bothered that he doesn't care what comes out of his mouth, and are dealing with that. It'll get tired, but I think they will tolerate a lot more from him. A lot of Sox fans - old and more importantly new - are in love with him.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:12 AM) hmmm....all I saw was not only Dye, but Thome also walking in Ozzie and Jon's direction in the dugout. It looked like they were ready to step in if it got ugly. Of course, we have no idea what might have been said by Dye. By the way, I have a whole new level of respect for JG based on how he handled that incident. It takes a big man to stand there and take it the way he did. I didn't even see the game or the incident so I had no idea until I read about it yesterday here. Last night I simply asked if JD was hurt or something and got hit with this so I went home and watched the TiVo and I totally agree with you. Jon had no emotion on his face - which maybe was why JD and Thome maybe thought it might turn into something? I like it even more that Jon didn't say a word to the press about it.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) Are you implying that there's tension between Dye/Ozzie? I wasn't there so I can't imply anything. Just passing along what I was told.
-
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) This is what Hawk was saying during the broadcast last night. Why, what did you hear? That there were words between Oz and Dye because of JD's actions Sunday during the Garland incident.

QUOTE(bighurt574 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:53 AM) Anyone else find it strange that the Sox are reportedly "extremely close" to getting Soriano, but there doesn't even seem to be an agreement as to the key pieces to the deal? McCarthy? Broadway? Pods? Completely normal. Welcome to the last 8 days of July.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) ...suggested trading Joe Crede to Washington in a potential Soriano deal because "this young kid Josh Fields is ready to play." Has anyone seen Fields' bat-speed? Joe Crede is hopefully going to be a White Sox lifer, and Josh Fields is clearly not ready to play the hot corner for a championship-caliber (hopefully.) Plus, think before you speak Sean... the Nats have Ryan Zimmerman, a 24 year old kid who kills the ball playing 3rd base for them. Of course this is silly... everyone knows Chavez is Crede's replacement..

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:27 AM) Steff there's no big drama about why Dye was out. He was getting a day off because he had played a lot and had whiffed four times in the game before. Like Konerko, it was thought that a day off might do him some good. I'm gonna go with what I was told on the matter. But thanks for your info.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) Heres comes the pink fuzzy bunny Rongey to tell us everything is all right. Last night was the first time I listened to that thing, and I swear my finger is sore from trying to get on the line with him. Complete and utter disgrace. He must use a case of chapstick a week. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 01:37 AM) So what? Mauer is a much, much better hitter. This was a pretty obvious move imo to ibb him and it wasn't made. I was calling for it at the time(and others from this site could back that up) and it's still bugging me now. Hell.. I think all of 127 was screaming for it.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:33 AM) Uh, yes it is, because it isn't working and its costing the Sox games. Why stick with a strategy that has proven, time and again, it won't work this year. If you know your starter melts down in the 6th once some runners get on, PULL HIM before that happens or when you see the first sign of it. Its the end of July, and if we just let them "work it out" we'll be out of the WC race by the end of August. It's not just with the pitchers. This team is geting angry. Oz better straighten out his approach or he's going to be in a world of trouble.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) Actually there are several people on this site who have sources at some level or another. Absolutely. There are too many "owners" who like to talk to keep things under wraps for too long. As for this "rumor", the most consistant thing I have heard is that Washington simply wanted too much. Additionally, I would not be surprised to still see Brandon shipped out.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 07:16 AM) Pssh, you know this answer. I know, I'm just curious what the official excuse was. This "God" complex is getting out of hand. It's going to blow up soon, and it aint going to be pretty.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) Anyone think Ozzie has lost this team? This almost reminds me of Tony Pena's short stint with the Royals. The team seems very unresponsive. Absolutely. Curious, since I was at the game and didn't hear, what was the BS reason Dye was out of the lineup?

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) Well good to hear BMac isn't going anywhere I guess! I'll believe it when the end of the month has passed. If a deal comes up that makes us better, no one (but Garland) is safe. IMO...

QUOTE(TheHolyBovine @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) UPDATE: KW was interviewed by Dibble and Kennedy on XM's "The Show", and said that there's no way that any pitcher off of the major league roster will be traded before the deadline. He said that he told BMac personally that he's not going anywhere. "Brandon McCarthy is part of our present and future. He's not going anywhere." FWIW, he said that to Ray Durham also... less than 5 hours later Ray was gone. I hope he's telling the truth this time.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) You mean you'd be more reluctant to criticize the move, right? Oh Jim.. you do have a way with words.

QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) Heres some more speculation. Maybe the trade for Soriano would have been done already if McCarthy was part of the deal. Could be Kenny's trying to dump Vazquez or Garcia and keep BMac with plans to move him into the rotation and flip Soriano for Zito, Schmidt, or Dontrelle . FWIW, I specifically asked about Willis Friday night and was told no way jose. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) JUST IN!!!! WE ACQUIRED SORIANO FOR GLOAD AND TRADED HIM TO THE TWINS FOR LIRIANO, SANTANA AND TORII HUNTER (who has magically healed)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH KENNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You deserve a suspension.

QUOTE(G&T @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) Random speculation. Hiring Boras sure didn't hurt the flame.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) Ichiro with Pods being moved. I can dream can't I I said that in the other thread.. LMAO. GMTA!! -
QUOTE(supernuke @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) Any speculation on who we would be getting back? Hell... I dunno. Ichiro. I'm just throwing crap and seeing what sticks just like everyone else at this point.
