QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) Oh, and it's not ignorant to call the people who have done it selfish? Give me a f***ing break. You have no idea why these people come to such drastic conclusions. To come to conclusion for them and sum it up in one simple word is beyond arrogance. It's beyond ignorant. It's downright foolish. Live their life before you spout your mouth off. I have plenty of idea. In case you missed it.. I was there with a family to pick up the pieces of their selfish family member who left his brains all over the living room for a 7 year old to find. It's reality. One you have no idea of, and despite your nastiness, hope you are never faced with.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) Have you suffered from depression ever before? Have you seriously talked with people that have (without judging them in the process)? Are you a psychologist? Depression controlls your life. It eats you apart like you can't imagine. The recovery process is tougher than any surgery you can imagine. Depression is like cancer, there's no cure, there's only rehab. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it comes back. Once you dive deep into the question and REALLY ask yourself that question, it doesn't just mean "live or die" like you suggest. Experience it before you make such stupid and blindfolded remarks. You have no idea what depression is like. You have no idea what "live or die" really means. I don't care what books you've read, what kind of degree you have. Until you experience it, you don't know s***. Not all people that commit suicide do it because they are depressed, and until YOU experience that, YOU don't know s***. Stop generalizing. It's ignorant to those who HAVE experienced dealing with someone who has committed suicide. ETA, I removed your personal stuff from my post. Like you said, it's noone's business and it doesn't relate to the point myself and William Tell were making.

QUOTE(shoota @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) And people still love Brooks Boyer. Brooks Boyer has zero to do with ticket prices.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) unless you're a college student and you live like 1200 miles away But there is no argument to what you've said at all, and you're going to get a (pretty) good product on the field, which has been proven to be true for the entire decade so far. You really can't ask for much more than that. It sucks for a lot of you guys. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't see the Sox as much as I do.

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) Theres actually an ancient Chinese secret in determining who is the father of the baby. First you have to have all the men in a room. Then you tell them you are going to rip the baby in three pieces and they will all receive an equal piece. Whichever man stops the baby from being ripped in three is the true father and should be allowed to keep it. Quite honestly, I think this child should be put into foster care and found a family that has nothing to do with any of them. None of them have displayed behavior that would indicate they can provide a positive upbringing for a roach, God forbid a child.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) Her smut is news because people bought into her a long time ago. You always have choice. You may not be able to avoid something like this entirely, but, you can engage it a lot less if you want to. And if more people did that, they it would go away. Honestly though, there is still a large swath of the country that loves this stuff, so there will be some of it around until that changes. But that isn't media hype, its business. All you can do is choose the alternatives that avoid it more than others. It's news because it's brought to light by the media. If the media didn't splash her all over the tv in the first place years ago we never would have known who she was. They are the ones that bring it to the table. If it wasn't there, it wouldn't be wanted. Now it's supply and demand. But the MEDIA is who created the ANS frenzy among a zillion others over the years.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 03:36 PM) There are hundreds of TV channels, thousands of newpapers, and millions of websites. All spewing information, news, etc. And none of them are exactly the same. So unless they are all in some conspiracy to provide the same content, then you always have choice. Those choices will mold what media companies present. For example, if you choose to watch a channel that has less (or none) of something you don't like, and the masses do the same, then you and the masses will have successfully molded the media. The channel people avoid losses viewship, then advertising dollars, and they either have to adapt or die. In the morning I turn on channel 2 and listen while I get ready for work. I don't have time to run back and forth or actually sit and watch it so whatever is said is whatever I hear. I don't watch much news other than that - my nights are filled with Tivo. I don't think Channel 2 is a part of some conspiracy, but this morning there were many comments made about her, and bet that 100% of the other news stations out there did as well. The only option to NOT hear the smut is to NOT watch or listen.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 03:24 PM) Are you serious that you only know about what is hyped in the media? You have the power to decide what you do or don't buy, watch or read. There are nearly infinite choices of what to do with your time and money. Pick whatever you want, just don't blame the media or businesses for giving some segment of the market what they want. If it's not in the media... you wouldn't know about it, correct? While I decide to watch the news.. I don't decide on what comes out of their mouths. I don't have the ability to know that tey are going to talk about some stars personal life. In order to watch the news, and get real news (traffic, weather, etc) we all have to endure some of the smut. It's not a choice not to hear it unless you're Miss Cleo, or don't watch any tv or listen to the radio at all.

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) So none of the meds found in the room where inside her. This is interseting. And none were illegal.

QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) Yes, she should change her last name to something less unique than "Smith".

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) They should get some blame for how they present things and what they do and do not report. Sure, there's interest from the public, but I'm sure some of this crap gets force-fed to the public. IMO, they get it all. The create it. The public wouldn't know about what the stars do, who they do, what they eat, when they crap, etc, etc... if the media didn't report it. I don't see Joe at the corner store calling the outlets and asking for the latest on who Paris is screwing..

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) No one makes you go to the games. This is classic economics. If you increase the price of a ticket by a small amount, you do expect some amount of fans to decide that the product on the field is no longer worth their money and stop buying tickets. The goal is to increase the prices enough so as to increase profits without driving away so many fans as to reduce profitability. If you don't feel that a 90 win team at those prices is a good enough deal for your money, then don't spend it. ^ QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) Thank you. Also for those who wanted a top 5 type payroll, here is your bill. Double ^. All that complaining about an 80 mil payroll and being "cheap" came back to bite some folks in the ass.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) So, according to the AP, Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband says that HE very well could be the father since he's had an affair with her for over a decade. This could be the weirdest story I've ever heard. Three Men and a Baby...

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) It was a craptacular second half. They easily looked like the best team in the majors in the first half, but in the second half, the pitching was mediocre (or slightly better) and the offense was garbage. If they'd played .500 or .525 ball in the second half, they're in the playoffs. Regardless, the Sox are one of the most affordable teams in the MLB to see play at home.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) Did the White Sox increase the payroll from last season ? It's in the mid-90's with about 7 players undetermined, and am I to assume that the payroll with the full 25 man roster will be in the neighborhood of 97-98 ? I think it will settle right near 100 Mil again.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) The UD has speed pitch, gift shops, specialty foods, and ticketing. ^^ As well as access to the same ramps those on the LD walk on to get to the BPB.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 09:14 AM) Speaking of tickets... my season rep said that the Season Ticket holder pre-sale would probably be the week of 2/12, which is coming up. But I haven't heard or seen anything about it yet. Anyone hear any specifics on that yet? We got an email. It's one day for fulls, the next for split, then the next for Ozzie plan, then finally to the GP IIRC.

Tickets in the UD, up $2. In the lower, up $3 Average LD price to attend a game at Yankee Stadium... $89.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 06:14 AM) I think there are some people who identify with her for parlaying her looks and sexuality into a nice lifestyle, then into a winning lottery ticket. Kinda like those baseball players who have talent and use it to get a huge contract... Which IIRC correctly some here were fully supportive of just a few weeks ago.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 10:07 PM) Was this person clinically depressed? If so, did you get to experience the mental pain and anguish they had 'to deal' with each day through a chemically inbalanced brain? It seems hard to make a blanket statement such as yours without having the disease yourself. Their state has nothing to do with what the family had to deal with AFTER their "death", but no. They were not depressed as you elude to. And how is my comment a "blanket statement"? I have seen the effects of suicide first hand and what I posted is directly based on that incident. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) That I understand. But isn't there some amount of selfishness in calling the deceased selfish after the facts? "He killed himself and it's my fault. Now I have to grieve the rest of my life over this." That's not selfish? And if there is, and it's a reaction AFTER THE FACT, how does that contribute to them killing themselves as you seem to be trying to tie together.. ie... "well a start would be to not call the person selfish, eh?" QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 10:32 PM) I feel bad for the loved ones too. But I feel sympathy for the suicidal too. They're obviously going through some emotional pain that is unbearable. I don't think it's as much of a "choice" that you make it out to be. Live, die, live die... That's not a choice? What would you call it then? QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 10:02 PM) ..."People jumping in to defend her and her life." You mean on TV? Because I'm not sure anyone here is doing it. I think it's precisely because I don't worship celebrities that I take a wait and see attitude about these things. Just as I would if the story was about a regular Joe. It's just a matter of being fair and respectful. Nice post LMB.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) I was completely agreeing with how people should be just as sad/remorseful for Joe Schmo who died of cancer than for Anna Nicole Smith. Not that because I wasn't a fan of her as a celebrity I don't care that she's dead. You're right, even though it's no sweat off my back, I certainly am hoping and praying for that little girl. I misunderstood. SBT.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 09:37 PM) I completely agree. I'm gonna go out on a limb here... but I bet when she is old enough to understand, her daughter wont agree. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) Well, a start would be not to call the person selfish, eh? I don't think they mind so much after they commit the act.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) As an avid Howard Stern (the real one), I remember a couple episodes in the past where Anna's Stern and him were getting in heated arguments. The guy always came off as a douchebag to me, a guy who had taken complete control of her life. Still, I don't know why he'd want Anna and her son dead, he was reaping the benefits financially with all the money she was bringing in. As the "father" of Dannilynn (sp?) he would have complete control over the Marshall $$ which was apparently close to being settled since Pierce had passed away. And I don't think ANS was that well off. I recall something in People Mag about her not paying rent at the Bahamas house.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) Oh, and also, she may not have OD'ed exactly, but no doubt whatever killed her was more than likely a result from a ton of drug abuse, both non-prescription and prescription. As R&W eluded to, HKS has been being accused of keeping her doped up for years. I would not be at all surprised to find out she had some assistance if it turns out to be an OD.

QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) On TV tonight, Nancy Grace was saying that her "husband", Howard Stern, was missing in action during a large portion of the morning leading up to her death, which was out of character for him. Everyone seems to be reporting something different. The Hollywood, Fla news said the police said he was in the room, CNN said he was not, earlier Court TV said he was in Miami...
