They have little leaguers in there practicing during the week at 4 and I think their games start at noon on Saturdays. I think there are 8 or 10 teams so getting the field on a Saturday might be tough.

QUOTE(soxpride77 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 07:58 PM) I thought Soxfest was really great, it was my first time, so I really don't have anything to compare it to. The only thing I found a little disappointing is the autograph situation. My brother and I got to Palmer House at 9:10 Saturday, 50 minutes before the scheduled start time of Soxfest. We really wanted to get the chance to meet Konerko and get his autograph, but I guess we got there 30 minutes too late as they had already given out all of the wristbands. I just wish I would have known that for autograph purposes, Soxfest started well before the scheduled time of 10AM. We were a little bummed out to start the day, but ended up having a great time nonetheless. Next year we will stay in the hotel though because it seems as though the people in the hotel were the ones able to get in line for autographs at 8:30 in the morning. The # of autographs was questioned several times. With the cut down in people I specifically asked why not leave the # of auto's given out the same. Didn't get a real good answer on that, but was told that it's something they will consider increasing next year. One thing though, hotel guests didn't get special treatment. It just depended on how many folks were in line before you, and I can tell you that when we got back to the hotel at 2am there was a line with at least 100 folks in it. Definitely consider staying there next year if autographs are important to you.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) there were lots of people I know that wanted to go, but couldnt get tickets. To speak on this matter it might have been nice if you at least tried to get a ticket yourself rather than relying on others and could speak first hand. Not one person we know that called TM the morning they went on sale didn't get tickets. Calling 3 hours later and then b****ing because you didn't get any to too damn bad. I even commented on how it would likely sell out as fast as the hotel rooms. Brooks came over and wasn't there 12 seconds and you were b****ing at him. For what they had to work with and the time to prepare, ONE year versus THIRTEEN at the Hyatt, things were pretty damn good. As for the elevators.. they were for folks who were going back and forth to their rooms and not fest guests who were not staying there. Too bad many assholes ignored the poor security kids and were too lazy to walk 15 feet to the escalators which were working just fine, but walked 30 feet past them to the fire escapes to have something to complain about... And in all honesty the mood was just fine when you weren't around and after you passed out. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) Great to hear they got it right after last year's embarassment. Question: do you think it was simply that they're on the ball again, or that all the bandwagon jumpers fell off after '06, LOL? Or both? They were on the ball in regards to ticket sales. I don't know what the numbers were, but we waited for nothing, enough seating in the seminars, the vendor area was smaller and I did hear they complained a bit, but from what I could see they were still selling their butts off. One huge plus was that you did not have to attend the opening ceremony if you didn't want to. Remember if you were at the tail end of the line you still had to pass through the snakes? Not this year. That was a big help for those that didn't get there in time and just wanted to get in lines for wristbands or get in on the Oz seminar. I'm happy they are there and hope they extend their contract past the next 2 years.

QUOTE(salty99 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) Well at least that explains it. It was great to see the fan reaction when he walked in. By the way, I was just quoting Scott Merkin's article when I said he wouldn't be there. I was just hoping they would have had more players in the seminars like Crede, AJ, and Buehrle instead of the same ones every day. But I guess they thought since most people had day passes they might only have 1 chance to see them. That being said I did enjoy almost all the seminars I went to and felt like I got to enjoy more aspects of Soxfest this year then in the past. Yea, I know. You told me that. I was pleased all around this year. The fact that i could sit in on everything I wanted to and walk around comfortable was a huge step up from last year. QUOTE(salty99 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) I wasn't 100% it was you and I had to leave for the day right after that. Next time. Only say hi when you have at least 45 minutes to spare. Bla, bla, bla, bla....

QUOTE(salty99 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) I did see him walk in which was awesome. Too bad he really didn't participate in much besides part of an auto session and opening ceremonies. That was disappointing. He supposedly had a family obligation that he left for early Saturday versus Friday as planned. I think it was nice he came at all.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) I was there and he said this was in no way set in stone. Correct. He said if the season started tomorrow this is how it would be. Obviously, if Count breaks his arm things will change.

QUOTE(salty99 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) I had a good time, better than last year. Hangar was that you with the UCLA Jerry Owens jersey? Didja see Thome?

QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) only problem is that IMHO Buerhle and Crede both want to maximize $$s and won't give any form of discount. Which is what they as human beings are supposed to do. God bless 'em!

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 10:12 AM) Yes. But if you remember, I also said that if it gets leaked out, it always looks worse because the media can paint it anyway they like ........ Correct. So if Kenny just keeps his mouth shut the media has nothing to stir, right? It's their job. How can you fault them for doing their job?

QUOTE(spiderman @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 09:14 AM) The White Sox probably should be more discreet about contract talks, but I don't recall actual numbers being thrown around in the media, just Williams suggesting that this will be Buerhle's last season with the Sox because of the current market. I appreciate that Williams is so outspoken - it obviously puts him in bad situations though from time to time when he is asked repeatedly about those words. I think that's what Williams has been doing all off-season (preparing for the future) by acquiring so many high-end pitching prospects since it appears fairly certain that Buerhle will be gone after this season. Those in attendance were treated to some speculated $ amounts. That's nice you appreciate it. Apparently the players don't. I think that speaks for itself.
-
QUOTE(spiderman @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 09:04 AM) I don't blame the media for this at all - they simply reported what Williams has said about Buerhle's free agent status next season. Kenny can try and downplay what he said, blame the media for overhyping it, but he said what he said. /end of thread.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 08:57 AM) I can say this for sure .......... after discussing this very topic ............ The media is a bit responsible for making things a bit worse than they might really be .......... HOWEVER, I made sure to point out ........... that the SOX have needed to be a bit more forthcoming not only to the Media, but to the Fans as well. SOX fans wont tolerate being treated as if we dont know whats going on, and unfortuneately only few in the Media here are aware of this fact. Let us come to our conclusions and let the chips fall where they may. This person agreed. H, you were sitting right next to me when it was confirmed that this was not a media creation from the horses father's mouth. The Sox need to keep their mouths shut about s*** that doesn't concern the fans. Financial negotiations are none of our business until they result in the player staying or going. This Sox fan wont tolerate personal s*** being printed in the paper and then the GM needing to apologize for anything. This is the FOURTH year I have commented about Kenny's mouth. He seemed to get the message from yesterday's meeting. I say he forgets before spring training though...

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) How about that Nicholas Cage movie 8mm where he is investigating a bondage film involving a young girl? The term is "Snuff" film where it actually implied her death - there were graphic scenes of her bound, gagged, beaten, and bloody. She was portrayed to be 14, IIRC. Also, wasn't Sissy Spaceck's role in the Raggidy Man back in the late 70's early 80's underage and raped?

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) Nopers just 3 re-runs. Non-sequitor: According to the Trib's tv reviewer's blog, Andy WILL be returning to the show, though not until after Feb. Damn. But at least I'll get some things done and get packed for the weekend and not miss anything good.

QUOTE(salty99 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) What the hell..that just sounds nasty. It's happened to all of them. Brandon just doesn't know how to handle that stuff yet. You should see what happens to them when they are out at bars without any "security".
