  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 04:02 PM) I like how people are dismissing the Jazz as a lottery team, even though they're actually above .500. They're always a very tough team to play at home, but for whatever reason, they don't play well at all the road. Perhaps it's the quality of opponents they've faced on the road, I'm not sure. edit: Also, claiming it's wrong to use the phrase "lottery team" for a team that would currently be in the lottery seems a little weird to me

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 03:01 PM) It really sucks that they weren't at least given a heads up that they'd be cancelled, so they could have written a season 3 finale that could also work as a series finale. Agreed. There was talk of doing a mini-series after the fact to wrap things up, but it looks like that's unlikely at this point. A real shame too, as Deadwood was fantastic.

Deadwood is one of the most rewatchable shows I've ever seen. Just finished rewatching it a month ago or so... it's so f***ing good. The ending is a slight letdown, but the series as a whole is simply fantastic.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 07:49 AM) I'm far from a Star Wars fans and just find it funny how Star Wars nerds b**** and moan about Lucas and how he ruins the movies, blah blah blah, but as soon as they are re-released in the theatre, look who is chucking down their cash. I will never donate another penny to that f***.
  5. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 02:10 AM) Dude didn't you compare Rubio to Kidd after 10 games or so? Talk about sample size huh? You obviously didn't read those posts too closely, so there's no real point in explaining what I actually said. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 08:18 AM) I don't hate Lin whatsoever, I just think that a tremendous amount of perspective has been lost in his small time in a Knick uniform. ESPN is now touting the Knicks as a title contender again because Lin lit up the Jazz, Wizards, Nets and Lakers. That is 3 lottery teams and a Lakers team that has completely lost its identity. Come on now, last night Magic Johnson said that he is a cross between Steve Nash and John Stockton. Are you f***ing serious? 4 games in the NBA after 2 years in the NBDL and all the sudden he is a cross between 2 of the top 50-75 players in NBA history? Hubie Brown couldn't stop gushing about his amazing court vision but didn't have much to say about his turnovers. Yes, the way the kid has come out guns blazing is very impressive, but I very much agree that we are seeing a player that hasn't been looked at too much on tape by opposing coaches and there will be an adjustment coming that will probably change the way he plays the game. Remember Brandon Jennings huge run early last season that included a 55 point game? There was a lot of chatter about how good he was during that streak, and he ended up fading like Steve9347's stonewashed jeans(I know you wear them steve. Don't lie) ^ Gets it It's nothing against what Lin has done. He's obviously had a great, great start to his career and he has a fantastic story that SHOULD be told. But people are going wayyy overboard after four games.
  6. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 12:42 AM) And tries to come off as an objective fan and then goes on to defend Love's dirty head stomp the other day. I said that I didn't think Love actively intended to stomp on Scola (I don't), but that he didn't actually try to avoid stepping on Scola (he didn't), so he deserved the punishment he got (he did). I'm not sure what part of that is defending Love, but you're welcome to think what you wish, I suppose. You guys (mainly Steve) ought to go drink a few more beers and take a few more shots then wander into the drunk thread and call me a cocksucker. It's all the rage! Make sure you delete the post in the morning, though!
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 12:29 AM) V You love Ricky Rubio and his ultra inefficient field goal percentage, yet take every chance you get to rip the reigning MVP who certainly doesn't have Kevin Love on his roster for shooting 44% while beasting to an MVP award. Then you dismiss Lin. You're a god damned hypocrite. So wait, just because I've said that Derrick Rose is inefficient and overrated by this forum (he's been better with his efficiency this season, for the record), I'm not allowed to enjoy the play of any inefficient player? Rubio is having a very good rookie year as a pass first point guard on a team surrounded with very poor jump shooters (30.6% on jumpers from 10-15 this season, 27th in the league). I'd also say that there's a difference in the importance of efficiency in players that are primarily scorers as opposed to being a pass-first, but I imagine that argument would be a waste of time. What does this have ANYTHING to do with Jeremy Lin? My argument about Lin is sample size, not efficiency.
  8. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 12:07 AM) You're not cool, you like the TWolves and the WNBA, nuff said. Heyoooo!! I have no hope of ever being cool because I actually think about things. Damn brain, always getting in the way of having a good time.
  9. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 12:00 AM) Maybe you should pick up a basketball and play some pick-up ball for fun once in a while instead of pontificating like you're the second coming of Dr. Naismith here in this thread. That's an awfully big word. Probably had to use your brain to understand it... f**. You should try just LIVING for a change. Free your mind from all that thinking. That's what the cool kids do. You do want to be cool, right?
  10. @Rusty_SFChron Close This is pretty cool: @Dlee042 set up @JLin7 with his old Manhattan apartment. Maybe the couch-sleeping days are over. THAT is pretty cool. Really, there are plenty of great stories surrounding Lin. But let's keep it all in perspective, people.
  11. heyooooooooooooooooooooooo Timberwolves suck el oh el!
  12. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 11:44 PM) Basketball is a game, it's not something you should take too seriously...some people need to take that giant sized stick out of their a$$. Basketball on the playground is a game. Basketball in the NBA is a multi-billion dollar business. There's a difference.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 11:34 PM) The Lin-less Knicks were terrible. They needed somebody to run the offense efficiently. Not Toney Douglas chucking up 15 shots a game and making only 5 of them. Not Iman Shumpert doing the same thing. Lin doesn't have to score 30 points a game to be a difference maker for New York. All he has to do is run the offense like a real PG, which I think he should be capable of, regardless of the 4 game sample size. By this logic, just about any point guard would have been a different maker. Toney Douglas is atrocious and Iman Shumpert isn't actually a point guard at all. I'd like to think the term difference maker would be reserved for someone that is actually a special talent, but I guess that's my own definition of it (as you alluded to). QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 11:36 PM) That's such crap. If you wanna play numbers get a blackboard... reason is ruining every good story to come out of sports lately. You literally just called people f**s for using their brain. Do you understand how stupid that is, or would that require using a brain to figure out? Lin is a great story. He's had an amazing run, and it's been fun to see. But when the media starts hyping it past reason and fans start making drastic conclusions based on a grand total of four games, it gets a little out of hand. It doesn't make Lin's run any less impressive, but it doesn't hurt to remember 4 games is an incredibly trivial percent of games in the season. Plenty of players have been great for four games (hell, TEN games) and turned out to be bad players.
  14. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 11:30 PM) We cant even be happy for how awesome Lin is playing without bringing up some f**gy "small sample size" BS. I think there is a concerted effort to suck the fun out of sports. A big conspiracy. Yeah how dare people actually try to use reason. Those f**s.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 11:27 PM) Let's also calculate some confidence intervals while we're at it. While Lin could very well cool off over the next week, month, year, who the hell knows, I don't think it's nice of you to rain on other's parades like this. The linsanity and jokes are all fun and games until someone starts taking it all seriously. When comments are made about how he's "definitely going to be a difference maker," someone has to step in and speak with some semblance of realism and a basic understand of what sample size is.
  16. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 11:26 PM) Steve just owned Felix. Because he made fun of the Timberwolves and the WNBA? Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh man, we're reinventing the wheel in the 2011-2012 NBA Season Thread!
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 11:22 PM) HAHA Shouldn't you still be busy crying over how the Bulls are never going to beat the Heat?
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 11:20 PM) The kid is setting NBA records. As a Minnesota Timberwolves fan, I'd figure you'd be all about miracles since that's what it's going to take for your team to ever win a championship. My team won the championship last year

    Pearl Jam

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 10:14 PM) If you like acoustic sets, Mtv Unplugged or Live at Benaroya Hall are good starting points. Like I said, I'm not really motivated to do so. There's plenty of other music I'm more inclined to dive into for one reason or another. I certainly don't dislike Pearl Jam, but they've never really grabbed me. Ten is an excellent rock album (although inferior to In Utero in every way, shape and form), but listening to it doesn't make me want to go on a massive Pearl Jam binge. Now if you don't mind me, I'll go back to listening to one of the more criminally underrated albums of the 90s.
  22. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 10:19 PM) You definitely dont shoot that well for that many nights without having some talent. Even if defenses can stop a lot of the drives, he still can hit open shots and if he can facilitate offense with Melo/Amare he is going to get a ton of looks. The best thing for him now is that he is going to have the confidence to take those open shots in the offense. Definitely going to be a difference maker for the Knicks. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/parkesm01.html http://www.basketball-reference.com/player...kesm01/gamelog/ Wake me up when Lin has played more than four good games (three of which were against really, really bad opponents [only lumping Utah into the "really, really, really bad opponent" range because they're pretty terrible on the road]).

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) Eh, I like Star Wars. That's all I got. I do too, but sitting through those "first" three once was bad enough. Never again!
  24. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 09:34 PM) You're CLEARLY not watching him play this season...probably just lookin' at the numbers... I've watched the Bulls a decent amount this year (mostly early in the season, not so much the last week or two), but yeah, his shooting is significantly worse this year. There really isn't any disputing that, as it's a completely factual statement. But like I said initially, he's been underrated for awhile and probably deserved to make it last year, so whatever. Can't get too worked up about it.

    Pearl Jam

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) Nirvana-wise, I thought In Utero (and was miles better than Nevermind anyway. In Utero is, and always will be, one of my top five favorite albums of all time ( is one of my favorite alt rock songs of all time), and while Nevermind was very important at the time, it really doesn't even come close to the quality that In Utero was. In Utero was a much more raw, untamed sound while Nevermind felt too almost polished (especially in relation to modern music now). I'm a much bigger Nirvana fan than Pearl Jam, but some of that is for sentimental reasons. I'm pretty lukewarm on Pearl Jam aside from Ten (which is excellent), but admittedly I haven't fully delved into their work. I've never had much motivation to do so, for one reason or another. edit: Going back and reading through some of this thread, In Utero is a superior album to both Nevermind AND Ten. Just saying edit2: QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) And basically after Cobain died and Foo Fighters went pop, I started to listen mainly to rap. I never thought I'd say this to a Badger fan, but holy s*** yes. Foo Fighters f***ing suck these days. I was never a huge fan in the first place, but they're borderline unlistenable and have been for a little while. Self-titled was very good, but it's been a steady downhill since. And I'm saying this as someone that loves Dave Grohl (especially as a drummer). Foo Fighters are just incredibly boring to listen to.
