  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) Ever heard of productive outs? Young must have a few or he just gets hits when there are runners on base. Driving in runs is an art. Most guys hitting .182 would strike out or pop up to second with a runner on third. I think the fact that he still is driving in runs while not hitting very well is a good sign. Yes, but think of how many more opportunities there would be if he were actually being a productive hitter. Suppose he were to start getting hits instead of those weak groundouts to second with the runners on second and third. He would be so much more productive, and both his numbers and the teams performance would benefit greatly from it. The RBIs are too dependent on the players in front of him in the lineup that they just don't show a players performance during the year. If the players in front of CY aren't getting on, and he doesn't get the RBIs that he has thus far, how do you look at his season? I'd say its pretty crappy thus far, and the fact that the people in front of him have gotten in scoring position isn't going to change my opinion on it. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) He's not going to hit below .200 much longer. Thats not really the point.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) Why? Every pitcher with 3000+ Ks is a hall of famer (except Bert Blyleven), it hasn't been done in a long ass time and you have to be insanely dominant for a good stretch of time in order to achieve it. I'm more impressed with 3000 Ks than I am with 3000 hits or 500 HRs. He's merely saying that pre-1980, only 2 people had ever reached it. Since then, 12 others have (soon to be 13 with Pedro). That's a pretty alarming increase, although I do agree with you, it's still a very impressive plateau.
  3. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) Anyone else have the feeling that the "B" team will be taking the field tomorrow? Talking about tomorrows game today? WAY too early to say, especially with todays game not done.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) LEFTIES!!!!! Is something wrong with Iguchi or was yesterday just a day off and today he sits because lefties destroy Gaudin? I think Farmer/Singleton mentioned something about his hand being sore yesterday, although I wouldn't bet my life on it.
  5. What, no one has compared the playing abilities of Thome and Thomas yet? You're dropping the ball Soxtalk...
  6. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) No, the debate was 8 RBI a week. Bottom Line. I think I lost you. How do you get RBI? By knocking in people that are already on base or hitting a homerun and driving yourself in. If you're hitting below .200, chances are you aren't hitting too many homeruns (or just suck at everything else in which case you are a pretty crappy hitter anyway). So, what happens when the players before this crappy hitter aren't getting on? The RBIs stop, and the player loses any sense of productivity that they ever had (however small it was in the first place). THIS is why people rather players who are more productive (say, .300/.350/.500) over players that can't hit, but get RBIs. The players who actually hit well are more likely to stay productive over the course of a handful of years, and don't rely on other players on the team to make opportunities. On the contrary, the crappy hitting player will need to either pick up their game or continue to rely on the players in front of him, which is a horrible, horrible approach to the plate in baseball. Make sense?
  7. Man, that took me too long. I don't think I could do it again if I tried
  8. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) what happened to that option? Gone with the search engine I'd imagine. Less strain on the server.
  9. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 09:55 AM) are you talking about the course of a year or the course of the season? If anyone averaged 8 RBI's a week despite hitting .182 would have a spot in my lineup anyday. So what happens when the people in front of him stop getting on base and stop giving him opportunities? Then you're left with a worthless hitter who can't hit his weight (or can barely hit his weight).
  10. Pods Count Thome the bullpen as whole This year should be a fun year of baseball if the bullpen keeps up what they're doing thus far.
  11. "Here's Buck and Jenks would want the Buck to stop right here" Thanks Farmer Game. Set. Match. A victory in Oakland, that's enough to make today a good day
  12. Why is the score playing "Jump Around" going into the 9th inning? We aren't the Badgers (and the Badgers suck )
  13. A hit for AJ? Whoa... Hall didn't feel any discomfort today throwing in the outfield according to Farmer.
  14. QUOTE(bad at best @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) Anybody listening to the radio? Ed farmer just told the most painfully pointless 10 minute story. I have no idea what happened during the game. Yes, sadly. The worst part was, I already knew the story, so I was listening to something I didn't care less about that I already knew. Singleton was right about him deserving $10 after listening to that thing... everyone listening should get $10.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) I missed a game, but I've yet to see AJP hit a ball well. Does he have more than one hit on the year? (I know he has at least one, but can't remember any others..)
  16. Still thinking about that Pods hit, maybe there's something to the theory that Pods is good every other year.
  17. QUOTE(bmags @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 10:25 PM) who is doing the broadcast with dj? Black Jack
  18. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) God damn is he still talking about that? Yea... I'm growing a new hatred for him.
  19. Farmer seems obsessed with British Columbia... wtf. He also said that he's not as smart as a fifth grader, at least he realizes it.
  20. Nice to be out of the inning, but I just have to wonder... is Count the Freddy of this year?
  21. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 12:01 AM) After today, he's hitting .182 with 8 RBI's. I wasn't even sure that was statistically possible this early in the year. A prime example of why RBIs are a bad way of evaluating a players performance on the year.
