Revisiting Hawk Harrelson
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) Ed Farmer makes Hawk Harrelson seem like the greatest announcer ever. As someone who just started listening to Farmer, I'd agree fully. He really is horrible.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Great game by all, including Pods. The pitching did well, especially Masset, and it's great to finally get that first win

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 02:11 PM) And seriously, Pods is playing because.... So wait... from what I understand, Pods is playing well today (1/1 with a walk, stolen base and run scored). Why the hell are you complaining about him playing?

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) No way. Singleton has zero emotion to his voice. I like it when the announcers are as angry/upset as the fans. Singleton sounds happy all the time, even when we're getting our nuts kicked in. I'd rather someone who has no emotion in their voice than someone who is preoccupied with their stories, and doesn't seem to care about the game thats going on. But as I said, I haven't listened to the Sox on the radio prior to this year, so its a very small sample size.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) Jenks might have to go two innings today. The bad thoughts of what happened last year when that happened are flying through my head.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) Hey Ed, Chris Singleton is almost as good as you are at pbp already. Please take your talents elsewhere, thanks -Brian I was just talking about this with a friend. I never listened to the Sox via the radio prior to this year, but really, I think Farmer is pretty bad. Singleton is much better imo.

Recruiting Thread
Minnesota's top 2008 defensive recruit (LB) Sam Maresh committed to the Gophers today. God, having Tim Brewster is great. http://www.startribune.com/512/story/1099052.html Also: I really wish my new job didn't have to start Saturday, forcing me to miss the Spring game. Oh well

NCAA Title Game
QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 09:01 AM) The only change in college basketball that I would consider is moving the 3 point line back. Why? Personally, I think thats part of what makes the game so great. It gives more teams the chance to upset a "bigger power."

Beilein to Michigan
Did I just get laid?

Todd Lickliter to Iowa
The Big Ten is going to be *really* good come a few years. Tubby Smith and now Lickliter for Minnesota and Iowa? Watch out...

Where's statmandu?
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) So, considering the statistics I've provided, would you be willing to recognize Contreras as one of the top five pitchers in baseball from Post ASB 2005 to about July 2006 -- including the playoffs? I don't know how you couldn't. I'm more willing to combine the two halves with Contreras considering he seemingly began right in 2006 where he ended in October of the previous season. Argue about the meaning of "ace" or "staff ace" if you wish, but I believe Contreras was our best pitcher during this period. The one you'd expect to halt a losing streak and give your ballclub an opportunity to win every start. I don't see how anyone could argue to the contrary. My point is that even if you combine them, its only a year. One year doesn't make an ace in my opinion, especially since I strongly value consistency and the ability to stay healthy. But, regardless, it doesn't matter at all.

Where's statmandu?
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) Second half of 2005? First half of 2006? Offhand, I believe if you add up those two halves his record would be something ridiculous like 26-3. He was our staff ace, and definitely one of the top five pitchers in baseball over the period until his health problems emerged. EDIT: Actually numbers during the time period were: 212.2IP, 3.18ERA, 20-2. Ace. To be a staff ace, you have to be a great pitcher for a prolonged period of time. Two halves of two seasons != ace in my opinion.

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 08:04 PM) i dont think u can say he cant be an ace because he sucked today. i know carpenters line wasnt as bad, but he gave up 5 er-and he is an ace. Yes, but Jose was never an ace in the first place.
