  1. Congrats to Danks, he definitely proved himself over Floyd this spring. Still, I feel as if we are rushing him along... I guess time will tell.
  2. QUOTE(Spiff @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 03:44 AM) Shades of Derek Jeter BETTER than Derek Jeter. Jeter's catch was a joke compared to Juans.
  3. I was at a party tonight, and there were a lot of "Tubby Smith" chants (half of which I started, and I participated in the other half). Yea, this campus is getting incredibly excited about next year already, which is a big accomplishment for any non-hockey sport here.
  4. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 08:47 PM) I resent that, even if it is a legit dig. Sorry, my dad passed on a disliking of Northwestern to all of his sons (he taught there, didn't like it much)
  5. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) Two of the best juniors in Kentucky, both top 50 players nationally, Scott Hopson and Bud Mackey, have already committed to Mississippi St and Indiana, respectively. The third junior from the state who is also a top 50 player, is heavily favoring Tennessee and Florida. You can't just let talent in your backyard get away like that. He'll fit right in in Minnesota... we literally *never* get our top talent unless its in hockey. Brewster seems to be trying to put an end to that in football,b ut still. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) then how in the world do you expect this guy to sell kids on Minnesota. Not saying that he will do a better job in Minnesota because of these reasons (since it doesn't compare to Kentucky's resume), but we do have the best court in the Big 10 (yea, screw you other teams!) and have a decent past to look at (8 Big Ten titles, same as Iowa). I mean, it's not like we're Duke here... but at least its not a Northwestern-like past.
  6. Threads on these topics are over in the Bracket Buster forum: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showforum=54 But hell yea, Tubby in Minny
  7. I'll be at the press conference tomorrow at Williams... I'm getting pumped about next year already.
  8. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) Unfortunatly I wasn't. sniff I knew they couldn't be that stupid
  9. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) Tommy Amaker has been named as the next Kentucky head coach! If you're being serious, thats absolutely hilarious. Great for me though!
  10. So... I'm not the most knowledgeful about Tubby Smith as a coach, but I know his track record in terms of success. Can anyone give me details about his preferred style of play? Or recruiting ability? You know, the good stuff that makes me get excited for next year.
  11. I had heard Sean Miller from sources on the team.. but I guess I'll be fine with Tubby Smith. Miller is probably more interested in Michigan's job anyway. Tubby Smith though? Hell, this makes my life as a Gopher basketball fan pretty damn good!
  12. Eckstein is a bigger grinder than Byrnes I should have known it was Howard though instead of Bonds, blanked on that one.
  13. Mack has much more value than Clark, and is a much better player. I'd be disappointed if this trade were done.
  14. Grinders are 1, 3, 5, good players are 2, 4, 6? The three great are probably Bonds (6), Pujols (4) and A-Rod (2), and the three grinders are Erstad (1), Rowand (3), and Eckstein (5)? Complete guesses.. but they make sense. Ozzie on any potential 20 year reunion in 2025: (expletives taken from Deadspin) Those ceremonies -- 'Oh, let's bring back those guys from 2005,' we're all crippled and f***ed up, pushing wheelchairs, kids crying because his dad was on the ballclub -- f*** that,'' Guillen said. ''I don't need that bull. A bunch of fat guys, another one is broke. 'Hey, where's your ring?' 'Oh, I don't know, I sold that son of a b**** two years ago.'
  15. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) And Kansas will win it all. FYI Bill Self
  16. The Gophers are having a solid year so far at 11-5, beating two top 10 teams (Arkansas, Pepperdine). As I'm someone who just started "following" college baseball, how common are these types of wins? Any chance the Gophers would ever creep up the rankings because of them, or would many, many more be needed? (one was earlier in the year)
  17. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) I had Wisconsin losing to UNLV... so them losing here is fine by me, especially since I hate the Badgers and everything they stand for.
  18. QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 09:54 AM) ncqq div 1 wreztling finqlz were inzqne zqturdqy, id pick thqt qny dqy Go Gophers! QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 09:26 AM) I really wish i went to a school like anchorage alaska, so i never saw bbball. The Seawolves? You'd have lost to us in the first round of the WCHA playoffs
  19. The first day was boring, no doubt about that, but past that, I think this year has been fine. Lots of close, competitive games in the past few days, and many chances late in the games for upsets.
  20. I realize hockey doesn't have the national appeal that some other sports have, but I figured I'd make a post about it anyway. Last night, the Gophers won the WCHA title (which will look pretty with their regular season WCHA title too) against UND on one of the best goals I've seen in my life (never been much of a hockey person, so its not saying much.. but still). The two teams were battling hard the entire game and were incredibly well matched, so the game ended up going into overtime at 2-2. Then, after only probably three minutes or so of overtime, the following play happened. The video is better than any way I could describe it with words, especially considering the situation it happened in.
  21. I'm sitting pretty on top of the Soxtalk yahoo pool Nailing UNLV over Wisconsin was helpful, and Texas became my second wrong sweet sixteen pick and first wrong elite eight team. Oh well, bracket is still alive
  22. He should have worn a tie when they played us in Minneapolis.
  23. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) Oh, I did think about that, but I count 5 guys who would often go in the top 3 rounds of a 12-team league (Utley, Crawford, Bay, Zambrano, and Webb). I don't know how you get all those players even in a 10-team league -- especially drafting deep in the 5th round. 1. (7) Chase Utley 2B 2. (14) Carl Crawford OF 3. (27) Jason Bay OF 4. (34) Carlos Zambrano SP 5. (47) Brandon Webb SP Thats how they went for me. I was amazed Zambrano and Webb were still around, but hell, I'm not one to complain
