Congrats to the Colts and their fans.. your team was great this year, and you have the best QB on the planet. Congrats, milk it for all its worth!

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 02:46 AM) Brewster decommitted from Ill, not a big surprise. This is great news for Minnesota... hopefully we'll now have a QB in the next few years.

The K-Fed one, easily. I hated the Doritos commercials... they were just stupid imo.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) The scouts say different, Oden has been the consensus #1 the whole time and nothing appears to be changing. Teams are going to take the big man over the perimeter player pretty much regardless. Yes, Durant is a potential star and right now is the best player in college basketball, but teams don't pass on athletic 7-footers. I think thats how it goes. Honestly, I doubt it matters how good Durant or any other player is, teams just won't pass on a player like Oden is and like he projects to be. Also, Minnesota beat Northwestern today. TAKE THAT NU! (we can ignore the embarrassing performance the Gophers put up against NU in Minnesota a few weeks ago) -
QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) How can you say that Erstad sucks? He played in 40 games last year and was hurt. In 2005 he hit .273 and in 2004 hit .295. Erstad is a solid back-up if he can stay healthy, in no way does he SUCK. He sucks because he cannot stay healthy, and when he is healthy (which is no common thing mind you), he still isn't very good. He's posted 2 seasons with OPS's above .700 since 2000 (although yes, injury plagued seasons) and really isn't that good a player. So yea, he sucks.
-
Erstad sucks, Spivey sucks and was signed to a MLC, while there are no open spots on the active roster for him (or 40-man IIRC, but I could be wrong about that). That being said, Erstad is better in CF than Mack

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 04:30 PM) Buehrle should be the opening day starter. I tend to agree, but he definitely didn't earn it after his performance last year.

It's all about harnessing his arm. If the Sox can do that, I'd say we're in a good position in terms of the bullpen

Miss baseball in the offseason? - Think you're better than KW?

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) Dude, get a life. I actually have a life, but thanks for the advice. -
My decision has so many factors involved, that I don't know if I could make a choice now. I mean, Vazquez pitched well in the second half of the season last year (or so), and if he continues to pitch like that, then hell, he'd be great to have back. I'd also like to get Crede back, but if Josh Fields develops like people suspect he will, it'd be better to let Crede go. AJ is a good player when not swinging for the fences, so if he were to stop that, I'd want him back in a heartbeat. My choices: Iguchi. We have no viable option at 2B if he leaves, and he's solid offensively and defensively. AJ. Again, no options for a catcher. He's not the best player, but he's a fan favorite (in the south side at least) and a sturdy option at catcher. Crede. While I don't think he'll ever leap into superstardom for an entire year, he's a good offensive player with an excellent glove. I also don't think too highly of Fields.

I would think that after this offseason, KW's thought on this topic is pretty obvious. I mean really, how many young pitchers did we add this offseason, especially ones that throw in the upper 90's?

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 05:56 PM) Since Kenny makes it clear we won't have Mark B, why didn't we trade him to Texas instead of BMac?? We should have traded Mark this offseason considering he won't be a White Sox anymore after this season. We should trade him to the Cardinals as soon as possible. Texas might have wanted BMac more than Buehrle, which is semi-understandable considering age, price, and pending free agency.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) Mark has actually played things pretty well. Aside from the Cards BS, if things keep going down this route, the Sox are going to look pretty bad in all of this. I don't think that Buehrle's goal is/was to make the Sox look bad in all of this, but I do agree that things are pointing that way.

Poll: KW media negotiations or bickering?
Felix replied to 103 mph screwball's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think that KW needs to be a little more discreet, but I do agree with his thoughts in general about the contracts being given out today. None of the poll options fit my opinion however, so I'll be holding back on voting. -

Minnesota took down Penn State today... TAKE THAT BIG 10! -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) As Flash said earlier, maybe they don't feel comfortable giving him a 5 or 6 year deal. If I was GM, I wouldn't, not after 2006. I agree with this, but you have to know that some team will give him a 5 or 6 deal on the market. So if you are Mark, would you rather sign for 3 years here, or get a longer deal from another team? If I were him, there wouldn't be a question that I'd take the longer contract.

If I weren't already in 4 leagues with promises to be in 2 others, I'd join. Sorry -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) Skip Bayless was arguing today that Brian Urlacher is better than Butkus and Singletary and a bunch of other stuff about how great Urlacher is. What do you guys think about that? (I don't know what to think, really, except that Urlacher is amazing.) http://www.talkbears.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=924

I was raised more of a baseball fan than a football fan, so the World Series meant much more to me. That being said, I wasn't born when the Bears were last in the Super Bowl, so its still very important to me.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 08:43 AM) Guys, don't take offense, but what's with all the love for the orange jerseys? Maybe it's just the fact that I like the more 'classic' jerseys, but I can't stand those and would never even consider buying an orange one. You guys just dig the color, or...? I really, really like the orange jersey's, which is why I bought one. That being said, without a doubt in my mind, my next jersey will be the navy home ones.

QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 02:08 AM) how about jason mckie jersey. Guy is fun to watch when he gets catches out in the flat and has some time to get his momentum going. He puts a hurtin on em. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 12:27 AM) I also forgot to mention Jason McKie, who was also in talks for my second jersey this afternoon.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 12:09 AM) Just as I will continue to wear my Grossman jersey. As will I (orange too, I love it)

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) The only guy who I can say I know are going to be around for a while is Urlacher, and everybody has an Urlacher jersey. I have one because I got one that's almost an authentic for $100, but that's the only reason. I bought a Berrian jersey (before the playoffs), because he has always been one of my favorites and nobody else has him. Since I dont have money for a jersey now, I'll be waiting to buy one for a bit anyway, at least until the draft probably. Then, if we end up taking someone I like (*cough* Matt Spaeth *cough*), I'll be getting their jersey Gives me plenty of time to think though..
-
Looking at NFLShop.com now, they don't even have Hunter Hillenmeyer as an option for the custom jerseys (link). What's that about?
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 12:11 AM) Actually Hunter appears to be a staple on the defense since he signed that nice sized deal in the offseason, he's a damn good player and Lovie/Rivera seem to love him. The most replaceable player would probably be Tank since he likely won't be back next year followed by one of A. Brown and Adawale considering their contract size and the awesomeness that is Mark Anderson and the safeties are pretty damn replaceable as well. I actually forgot about Hunter's contract extension.. I'm ashamed. I also forgot to mention Jason McKie, who was also in talks for my second jersey this afternoon.
