If Crede wasnt doing as well as he is now, when it matters, then I would be all for replacing him. However, he's been probably the best hitter on this team when it matters, and he's 7 years younger than Mueller. We still havent seen Crede play up to his potential at the plate, but replacing him with someone who isnt that much better offensively and much worse defensively doesnt make sense. I do agree that we should probably upgrade at 3b, but for Mueller? No thanks.

Freddy did amazing tonight, and I hope that he keeps up this form. But stay honest to yourself. Minnesota is the worst offensive team in the AL (they have the least runs scored), so shutting them down SHOULD happen. And winning one game does not ensure that he will come up big in the big games..

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) Until he starts hitting that righty slider, he's going to continue to struggle at the plate. His K/BB ratio is awful this season, and teams have learned how to pitch him. Thats true. He needs to work on his patience at the place especially.

He was playing against a horrible offense. I wouldnt say our questions have been answered, but it is nice to see Garcia dominate a team which he should dominate.

well.. http://www.thegamelive.com/ But I couldnt get any of them to work for last week's game.

What, 13th? We are 13th in the MLB in runs scored. (granted, we are 9th in the AL in runs) That isnt the fault of a lack of HR's.

Great job tonight guys

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) I love Uribe, one of my favorites, but Furcal IMO, along with many others, players better D than Uribe. This year, Uribe has the 4th best range factor out of AL shortstops, and the second best zone rating out of AL shortstops. Add his arm on top of that, and you have one of the best defensive SS's in the AL. According to the numbers this year, Mueller has the worst range out of all 3b, and is in the lower half in zone rating. In the past 3 years, Crede has had more HR and RBI, and since Crede is 25, and is possibly showing his talent here in September, I would rather him than a 34 year old Bill Mueller, who is making $2.5 million this year. Why will his numbers go up? A hunch. I dont think a lack of production when it comes to HR's is really that big a deal.. I mean, look at how many the Sox have hit this year..

No, its not like the Sox play in a pitcher's par, but there is a HUGE difference between The Cell and TBIA.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:39 PM) Because he's still a damn good hitter at home. His defense is solid, and he gives us a lefty threat that we've been lacking for a while. His home is TBIA (The Ballpark in Arlington). Everyone is good there.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) So on the road, he's Joe Crede all the time? Yes, but why would we trade for him if we already have someone that good?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) Where do you get this stuff? There are 6 guys in all of baseball who make $18 million or more. Manny Ramirez, Derek Jeter (so overpaid its not even funny), A-Rod, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Roger Clemens. I fail to see how teams are going to pay guys like Derrek Lee who has had one great year and Paul Konerko who is a very good hitter but hardly a great hitter $18 million a year. Not saying it's valid, but Lee almost won the triple crown this year. And he's young. I'm sure there are some teams willing to overpay for him.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) Felix.....no player is going to get 18 million now. If there was one player who would, it was going to be Beltran. Im not saying we should offer him 18 million off the bat, but if LAAAAAA does offer $15/5, then yea, I would go $18m.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Felix...Hank's had a bad season, yet you don't think he can improve next year? I see in another thread that you mention Rowand will be back to form next year? Blalock is a much more dangerous hitter than Rowand at a position that we're definitely lacking a big time hitter. I'd rather have Dunn though. Blalocks away numbers in the last 3 years: .242/.306/.426/.732 with 28 HR and 91 RBI in 669 AB

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) Phil Nevin Shea Hillenbrand Dmitri Young Derrek Lee Jeff Bagwell (Team Option) Darin Erstad Dimitri Young (Team Option) David Ortiz (Team Option) Craig Wilson Nick Johnson Aubrey Huff All FA after next season. All 1st basemen. Nevin: are you joking? Hillenbrand: no where near the production of Konerko Young: Mentioned twice on this list, he isnt going anywhere Lee: Im almost certain he'll be resigned, and if not, his FA price will be more than $18 a year.. Bgwell: not moving Erstad: Maybe... if we werent replacing a 40 HR a year player Ortiz: DH, but isnt going anywhere Wilson: Not good enough to replace 40 HR a year.. Johnson: Injury prone DH Huff: Not in the same offensive catergory as Konerko, although Huff is able to drive in runs

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) And you want to give $18 million to a career .278 hitter One who hits 40 HR's a year. Hell, Mark McGwire's a career .263 hitter.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) Maybe you get rid of PK, find a solid offensive 1b like Overbay or Tracy, and save some money in order to get a DH that can hit above .250. Getting rid of PK gives this team a lot of flexibility. I'm still on the Contreras and Marte for Dunn or Blalock bandwagon. Blalocks numbers are inflated by playing in TBIA. He's hitting .242/.285/.350 with 5 HR and 29 RBI on the road this year. Dunn is a possibility though.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) He's a damn solid SS. Wait until Furcal gets 4/45 in the offseason. A career .272 hitting SS for $8.5m a year.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) I'd offer PK 3/36, and if he said no, I'd wish him well and look to make a trade for a 1b. But what 1b will you pick up that has the offensive production that Konerko has? Overbay or Tracy? Dont make me laugh. The 1b with Paul's production arent going to be available for trade or FA for many years to come.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) Thank God you're not the GM. That would be one of the worst contracts given out in MLB history I think Rollins for $40 over 5 years is worse.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) Great start by Garcia. Take him out though, no reason for him to stay in. Im not sure, I think that keeping him in might give him some confidence, since he has dominated this game.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) 18 million a year? Considering the market which is available for the Sox if Konerko walks, yes. He's a good 40 HR hitter a year, something which isnt going to be available at 1b in the FA market for many years to come.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) Garcia stays in the game, but Gload's at 1b and made a great pick on the play. And Borchard is in right.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) Depends on what he's offered at the end of the year. If Anaheim offers him $15 million a year for 5 years, is he a good value then? Yes. I'd be willing to give Konerko up to ~$18 million, but past that, im not sure about it. He adds some sort of fear to our lineup, something Tracy, Overbay, or Gload dont do. He is the rock of the lineup, and I see no reason to be stingy in paying him.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) People like Gload. People might think Gload is a better value than Konerko is. But I doubt anyone thinks that Gload is straight up better than Konerko. I guess you are right there, but I still think that Konerko is a better value :|
