swisher to lead off to start the season and play center
NorthSideSox72 replied to chisox2334's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 01:22 AM) A healthy Pods is a ton better then a healthy Owens. Both healthy, I'll take Owens easily over Pods. Owens is already a better basestealer than Pods was, he's a better defender in the OF (with a similar noodle arm though), and it looks to me like their OBP's would be similar. Plus Owens is younger and cheaper. -
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 07:09 PM) Refresh my memory. I can't find his exact words, but, here is the paraphrasing by me... "When I first arrived in the Senate hall, I looked around and said 'wow, how did I manage to get here?' Then after spending about a year in the Senate, I thought to myself, 'wow, how did these other people manage to get here?'"

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 11:49 PM) He said that Fields it was Fields job to lose going into spring training. He lied the same way Joe Maddon lied about the Longoria situation. I must have missed that.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 06:04 PM) Excellent post Steve Once again Guillen proves he's a liar. Fields has the edge going into spring training, performs better than Crede, gets sent down. Why can't Fields at least stay on the roster? He would be a perfect fill-in at DH against lefties. What exactly did Ozzie lie about?

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 06:44 PM) Ok, I get what you're saying here, but don't you think you're being a bit naive in thinking that he has never said this stuff before? I mean, it's quite a leap to go from good normal christian sermons to "god damn america" and the white man is the cause of all the black man's problems. I have a feeling he had a pretty apparent viewpoint that was highlighted by these select statements. This is a guy, afterall, that loves Farakhan and forced Opera of all people to leave his church. And I love this argument that "oh, he's just a normal person, he should get a pass for saying something stupid once in his life." I'd like a teacher to tell say such words in their classroom, or a judge, or someone else that we hold in high regard in this society (gloss over the easy distinction of "public" employee...he's still a public figure in society). Trust me, I don't think this story deserved half the attention it recieved, but I don't think it's a stretch at all to say this guy obviously has some pent up hate for whites and the whites that have led/currently lead this country. Its definitely not a stretch to think he's said it before. And definitely possible he's said it lots of times. I think the likelihood is, he says that kind of thing once in a blue moon. The point is, for someone to say all they need to judge someone is one or two quotes taken from their lives, that we would all look pretty s***ty in that light.

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 06:21 PM) Its not like the guy is trying to hide his opinions. He is blatantly saying racist things and criticizing the country and my point is that the quotes werent taken out of context. How can anyone not realize that guy is racist after watching that clip for a minute? Im not trying to say I know anything about him outside of him being a pastor but it doesnt take much to draw conclusions about what his thoughts are on race. re-read your post - you say that the quotes "weren't taken out of context". How do you know? How much of this guys sermons have you seen? No one is contending that his words in the videos are not racist. They are, and they are terrible things for someone to say. It may mean that Rev Wright is a racist slimeball. Or, it may mean that in his 20 years of sermonizing, he's said a few stupid things - kind of like all the rest of us. If you can't see that distinction, then I think you need to look up the definition of the word "context". Then try the phrase "jumping to conclusions". No one is saying he ISN'T a racist... they are saying that he MIGHT be.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) By the way... In a very sad day for this party....truly tear-jerking...Mike Gravel has announced that he's fed up with not winning and is leaving the Democratic party. He'll be joining the list of people running for the Libertarian party nomination. Too bad. He had the best debate line of any candidate in either party this cycle.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) Speaking of playing badly this spring, Orlando Cabrera has been awful, I heard on the telecast the other day that he's waiting for opening day to turn it on. I don't think its that easy. He hasn't been awful in the games I've watched, but he hasn't been exactly impressive either. I don't know his playing that well though - maybe he's a guy who starts slow.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 05:26 PM) wow. just wow. i doubt it is from her. But it doesnt matter WHO it is from. It's unacceptable. I wonder if phone logs can track the originator. You could say this is verbal assault. Especially the "coon" comment. Me thinks you don't fully understand the legal meaning of this word. It might be slanderous, but its nowhere in the vicinity of assault.

QUOTE(ptatc @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) Do you honestly think they don't have a plan or are you just trying to stir up trouble? The plan is obvious. They wanted to trade both Uribe and Crede but had no takers. They have to start both of them to drum up trade value. It sucks in the short run but will be better in the long run. Uribe was on waivers to see ifthe could pull him back and make a trade. It hasn't happened yet but it will. the sox will gain a player from the Crede trade and another year of service for Fields. i don't think there is ever a problem with too many good players. Who wouldn't known that Anderson would have put his head on straight this year when he hasn't in the past? Quentin if not used extensively this year is the replacemenbt for Dye next year, it is not a waste to season him a little more. For all your complaining about there being no plan, I see a good plan with backups built in for injury cases. We have a few older players so you see waste and redundancy, I see backup plan. The plan is obvious, you just don't like it. *applause*

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) It doesn't matter what she says if the supers start shifting to Obama over the next few days/weeks. What case will she truly have? If he were to gain a lead in superdelegates that would mean he'd have a lead in pledged delegates, popular vote, states won and now supers. I think this and other rumors are hinting at the beginning of the end. The Dems in power want this thing over so they can concentrate on the general. On the one hand, since this thing went way deep into the primary schedule, this was a more democratic primary then there has been in quite a while. On the other hand, they fact that they have to kill it off semi-artificially is less than ideal. What this should really indicate is that the primary system needs an overhaul.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) now, if the intentions are to make an unbiased film just presenting the life of Bush and such, I have no problem with such a film. However, if they are going to make it into a Bush is the devil, he sacrifices babies type of movie, then I do have a bit of a problem with that. Why?

I hadn't realized they were doing this, and are going to start filming soon, apparently... until I happened upon this article about the actress who will be playing Laura Bush. Thoughts?

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Ozuna, 2B; Cabrera, SS; Thome, DH; PK, 1B; Swisher, LF; Dye, RF; AJ, C; Crede, 3B; Ramirez, CF. Floyd pitching. Opening day lineup? Anderson will be starting on Opening Day. And I think they said Thome would bat 5th against lefties, with Swisher 3rd, so... Ozuna Cabrera Swisher Konerko Thome Dye AJP Crede Anderson

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) Jesus christ that exists? Good times.

I know the GOP nomination race is over, but, I found a really good article about what Ron Paul means to the Republican party. Just a solid read.

I can't decide which is more embarrassing for this site... the thread accusing Obama of doing coke and having homosexual relations, or this one.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) Floyd and Danks are my only real concerns this season. Add Contreras and we are of the same mind.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) Trades rarely happen during the first few months of the season. But they do happen near the end of Spring Training semi-regularly.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) Now, not only is this season looking like a waste, but we have very little future as well. That's hilarious. The team is improved, but the season is a waste. We loaded up on young talent locked up for a long time, and we have very little future. Have some perspective, man.
