QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 07:47 PM) Barack wins hypothetical November Matchup... So... everyone in Nebraska will suddenly grow candy stripes?

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) I'm sorry you're a bitter old man and your life sucks. I can't help you with that. You AND Cali need to take it down a notch. No more snark in here. Take it to PM's or the bike rack or wherever - just keep it out of here.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) Massett is, IMO, going to have to look worse than anyone on the roster to avoid making the team, because he's out of options. McDougal and Wasserman each can be sent to the minors without us losing them. Agree. Masset and Wassermann isn't the deal - they have very different roles. Its Wassermann and MacDougal, who are similar in role. And as you say, they both can be sent down. MacD with a good inning. I am not sure if that's good or bad. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) Howard Dean needs to be fired. Howard Dean is the least at fault here. He made the right call, in my opinion.

Its sort of odd... Phillips and Ryan Smith are getting some good playing time at catcher. Lucy and Armstrong are the ones I thought would get that time, since if Hall is not viable, they would seem to be the frontrunners. Phillips was a strange pickup anyway, and Smith is just not someone that has been mentioned as any future prospect. I wonder what the reasoning there is. -
QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) obama down 15 according to Rasmussen. Wow - that's an 11 point swing for Clinton between 2/26 and 3/5. Gives an idea of the uphill climb that Obama has in front of him. Then again, that's when he has usually done well. He gets to a state he hasn't campaigned in yet, and picks up quite a bit of support. Let's see how things look in about a week, after WY and MS have voted, after Obama starts the attacks (which he pretty much has to do), and after the press again re-aims their fire at the new "leader".

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) I believe it is a closed primary So you are going to write in Obama, huh? I wonder if that would get counted.

The FL and MI situation is getting a little uglier. A senator from FL is telling Howard Dean that the DNC should either accept the original results, or pay for a do-over. Dean says a do-over is all good, but that the DNC will not pay for it. What kills me here is that the voters in FL and MI, and the rest of the nation indirectly, are now paying for the poor decision making of whomever in FL and MI decided to move their primaries up too far. My question is, who are those people, and if they still have jobs, why? They will need to come to a decision pretty quick. As it stands now, the re-addition of 2 big primaries probably helps Clinton the most, since she is behind. I have a feeling they will end up re-doing both primaries, and splitting the costs somehow. And that changes the math a bit.
-
Obama on the Republican ticket? That's a neat trick. If PA is an open primary, then you'd be voting for Obama on the Dem ticket. If its closed, and you are registered GOP, then all you can do is write him in. Which did you mean?

QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) Just because Armstrong got a couple of hits this spring doesn't mean he's ready to step in... or would be better than a proven MLB catcher like Hall (when healthy). Armstrong spent almost all of last year at Winston Salem. I'd like to see how he does in a full season above A-ball before we anoint him the Sox backup. Also, in the TV game the other day he looked pretty poor on three stealing attempts. Bad throws on all of them. One allowing a run to score. Not impressed yet. Armstrong has been inconsistent in his minor league career. He had one very good season. Lucy is more consistent but will never be spectacular offensively. The good news - Lucy and Armstrong are good defenders. The bad news - I think either one of them will probably struggle a lot offensively their first year.

You know, if Peraica or Claypool had become the county board president instead of Stroger v2, we would not be in nearly as much of a mess. As a voting populace, we could just, you know... elect better officials. That might be a lot easier than breaking up the county.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) Original NAFTA leak was about Hillary Clinton's assuring of Canada, NOT OBAMA! Full Story http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home Whoa. That's kind of an important mistake.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) Here is Dean's full statement: Hm. Less direct than the snippet on the tube. One of the rules allows for a re-do of a primary, the other says basically that they can appeal to DNC. Either way, they won't just go with the results from before - so that's good.
-
CNN reporting (on TV, no link) that delegations from MI and FL met in DC, trying to find a way to get their delegates counted. No one from DNC was there. The Dems are in a tough spot here. If you just suddenly go award delegates for those states, there would be a mutiny inside the party and within its voters (myself included). But if you leave them out, you jeopardize November. Now, Howard Dean of the DNC reiterated that the rules will be followed, period. So he doesn't sound like he is budging. But one possibility that could come up is having new primaries for each.
-
Oh hey, forgot to mention too... John Edwards has 26 pledged delegates in his name. So basically, he is like 26 superdelegates right now, up for the bidding. Those could come in handy. So could North Carolina. One wonders if he may endorse before the NC primary.
-
So, here is some math to chew on. Let's say that Obama and Clinton draw the same number of delegates the rest of the way out. I think that's unlikely - the map at this point favors Obama - but let's say that anyway. At that point, Obama has 1826 and Clinton has 1729 (that includes the already-endorsed supers). So that means that of the 358 remaining uncommitted supers, Clinton would have to win 231 of them (127 to Obama) to win. Two thirds of them going to a candidate who will be losing the vote AND shows as much weaker in November? Politicians are far too self-interested. They want to win. PA is key, as I've said. But the numbers say that Clinton will need to be dominant from here out to win.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) Overall he certainly didn't gain ground in delegates, even though it was close. I actually did the math wrong, Clinton gained about 10 delegates overall on Tuesday. Obama won Texas, but you are right, Clinton gained 10 delegates overall on the day. Point is, Obama won Texas. And I'm still seeing all the news articles saying the opposite.
-
Here is my question. Why is it that watching CNN, and looking at websites like MSNBC and CNN and NY Times, that no one is making mention of the fact that Obama has actually won Texas? And apparently actually gained ground in delegates instead of lost? Me thinks they overreacted a bit last night to the Clinton victory parade, before finding out how things really fell out. I mean, the headlines on the NYT site still say things like "Lesson of Defeat" when discussing Obama.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) It is ridiculous to speculate on guys and take their ERA as gospel on March 5th. Its Joe's speciality. Even MacDougal. While obviously everyone would rather he come in and shut guys down, his horrid start still means nothing. I wouldn't go that far. Picking 1 point in ERA here or there on pitchers who have put in 2 or 4 innings is ridiculous. But when MacDougal looks truly awful in the intrasquad games (per Tony), and comes out and gets SHELLED in his two appearances, that does mean something. Its not bible truth of his coming season, but I do think its an indicator.
-
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) Texas was actually won by Obama. Clinton nets four delegates in the Primary. Obama will net seven more than Clinton in the Caucus. Total delegate count in TX? Obama +3. Interesting. So for what counts for the process, Obama wins Texas. If he picks up more ground in WY and MS, that makes for a pretty big gap. Still though, I think PA is HUGE.
