  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) I still don't consider Owens anything more than a LF, and would have had no problem with him being an option there. I just don't like it when your CF has to two hop it to the cutoff man. Speaking of which, has anyone seen him make any throws from the OF this spring? Owens was also supposedly dealing with a minor shoulder issue last year.
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) You're making my point. Anderson has about the same playing time, and he was blamed for the Sox ridding themselves of all their prospects. I wasn't trying to make or break the point about Anderson - just saying Owens hasn't gotten the chance to show his true value yet. I'd suggest Anderson, starting for most of a season, got more of a shot than Owens has had. And unlike Owens, Mr. Anderson managed to piss off management with his attitude. That in combination with his poor performance (far worse than Owens') caused KW to go get Erstad, basically.
  3. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) Unless you need to commute from one suburb to another and not into the city. I can't imagine how much larger the mass transit infrastructure would have to be to help with all the people that take 355, 83, or 294 from the southern suburbs to the northern suburbs. It would take me about 2 1/2 hours each way to use public transportation right now. It wouldn't really need to be much larger. Mass transit doesn't need to be trains, necessarily.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) But you're not. You pick and choose. Anderson not hitting shouldn't force KW to go get 2 OF. He got Erstad. Erstad failed. Owens apparently failed. Pods failed, yet you blame it all on Brian Anderson. If you're going to blame players, don't blame the ones that don't play. You blame BA for "forcing" KW to trade Carter. Last I checked Quentin doesn't play CF. Owens has yet to succeed or fail.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) That's cool it you live in a relatively large city or the suburbs of one. I'm not just talking about that kind of system. Amtrak is a friggin joke - it could be used so much better all over the country. Also, mass transit includes bus service in towns that range down to pretty small. Not like 500 people small, but a few thousand small. It also includes commercial intercity bus service.
  6. I think Rove's tactics were too well exposed in the last 8 years, not to mention that they ended up having a negative effect as time went on. I don't see them working for McCain.
  7. Hopefully the fact that PA is a closed primary will keep some of the GOP'ers at bay. Some could change their registration of course, but as Rex pointed out, the deadline for that is fast approaching and most people won't bother or don't know about it.
  8. CNN saying that Spitzer will announce his resignation at 11:30 ET (no link, banner only).
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) Ah, good catch. I wonder if Mike really is in danger of going to Charlotte to start the season? If Ohka is a given, then I assume MMac and Wassermann both go to AAA. That means a bullpen of Jenks, Linebrink, Dotel, Ohka, Logan, Thornton, Masset. Sort of a shame to let a guy like Ohka get in the way of MMac or Wassermann if you ask me.
  10. Interesting article about Richardson, who comes this/close to endorsing Obama. Includes a sort of amusing story about an early debate. After reading the article, I'm reminded of one of the reasons why I liked Richardson - he's just a straight-forward guy. Its also a nice tidbit about Obama though.
  11. With 99% reporting, MS shows Obama with a 61-37 lead. That gives Obama a 20-13 delegate win, by my math.
  12. TIFWIW, but the NY Post is reporting that Spitzer has been visiting prostitutes for at least 10 years. It also says he is a millionaire, so, I don't think he's spending that $80,000 from tax money. Sounds like he is independently wealthy.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) So I rounded. Big whoop. What matters is that would translate to roughly a 18-15 delegate split I believe, which actually helps Hillary a bit because that margin is smaller than the popular vote margin. My math says 59-41 gets you 19-14, and in fact very close to 20-13.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) Item number one that says we pay politicians too much money... Spitzer has dropped $80,000 on call girls according to Fox News 32 tonight... Yeah, I was wondering where he got that kind of loose cash. I'd be curious to know.
  15. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 07:47 PM) I actually saw Apocalypto for the first time a few days ago. It was good, but can someone explain to me what was so incredibly great about it? A guy I knew back in school said it was the best movie he'd ever seen. I thought it was awful. Pretty much a waste of 2 hours and 8 dollars. They could have just called it "The Passion of the Mayans", except without the realism.
  16. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) I just wanted to bring this up because I had this discussion earlier today... what percentage of people actually know what Obama's policies are (or what he says they are) and agree with them? I don't think very much, as my opinion is that most people don't know a lick about him, but rather have been brain-washed (not as extreme as that, but that is the best word I could think of to describe it) by most of the media that the War in Iraq is evil and Obama is the greatest person ever, etc... I'd say about the same percentage as know Clinton's policies.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) Like the last two dollars per gallon increases have sharply driven demand down for gasoline? Gasoline doesn't behave like a normal commodity. It has an elasticity of near zero. People buy it, almost no matter what. Yet another reason why it wold be nice to see us fund mass transit at something a little better than 1/40 of roads.
  18. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) Obama blow out is my projection. Followed by a Clinton "well, it's a black state" type comment. I don't think either of those will happen, exactly. My barely-educated guess? Obama wins 60-39. Clinton says nothing about it, and continues campaigning in PA.
  19. Anderson has also drawn 2 walks today. So far in ST, he's got a .368 avg, .467 OBP and .658 SLG for a 1.009 OPS, in 38 AB's. Oh and by the way, he has more total plate appearances (46) than anyone else on any team in ST.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) Nick clocking 94 on the gun. Gets the strikeout for out 3 but the runner reaches 1b on a WP. Starting to look like the pen will include Masset. Just down to MacD vs Wass now.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) I think it's pretty unlikely. There's just been too many repetitions of the "he's too raw", especially on the defensive side, for me to think that they aren't planning him for AAA at least to start the season. if Richar is in Charlotte or on the DL, Ramirez makes the team. Also, if Uribe is traded, Ramirez makes the team.
  22. Currently 2-1 sox in the bottom of the 2nd. Anderson with a 2-run HR, and Hamilton of the Rangers has a solo shot. Floyd pitching for the Sox, and Plunkin' Padilla for the Rangers. I despise Padilla.
  23. QUOTE(Cknolls @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) "Renegade" "Renaissance" "Evergreen" These are the Secret Service names for the Dem. candidates, save Bubba. No word on McCain's nickname. Nor Bubba's. I wonder if Obama likes Styx. I know Hillary loves Babs. Who is the third candidate - Edwards? And I honestly can't tell for sure which is which. I assume Obama is the renegade, Clinton is Renaissance, and Edwards Evergreen. Is that the case? I wonder what Richardson was, and what the GOP candidates were.
