QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) Hey, Barack, you know what really pisses me off? Did you guess, saying you'll start a speech at one time and keeping me waiting around for it to begin? Wow, yer good. You say you want to bring people together, then you get them together, then YOU TALK. We ain't bonding while we're waiting around. /rant According to CNN, it was technical difficulties with the audio. But still, it doesn't look good, does it?

For anyone curious, Obama is starting a speech right now (~9:15) that I think CNN will carry live, about this and race in general in his attempt to get to the White House.

CNN and MSNBC both reporting that the FL Democratic Party is saying there WILL BE NO re-do of a primary there. No details yet. With that off the table, I'd guess the DNC continues to stall FL, and then agrees to seat them 50-50 or something.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) The Cameron HR was on a dead read fast ball at 3-2. The hit by Gross that followed was on a really good breaking pitch by Javy, Gross just went down and got it for a bloop in LF. Javy needs to pitch over the E, but it was a solid outing today. And he's 2-for-2 at the plate.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) I think this scandal involving Obama's pastor is going to help Hillary as well. Probably will, yes. Which is exactly why he is giving this speech - I think his hand has been forced.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) Ohka and Wass's only shot for the job was to beat out MMac. Which I think they both did, but, it seems Ozzie and KW feel otherwise. Oh well. I hope Mike does well.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) So Bobby Jenks, Octavio Dotel, Scott Linebrink, Matt Thornton, Boone Logan and Mike MacDougal with one spot available between: Masset, Wasserman, Ohka, and Carrasco With Wasserman having options remaining, it seems like he is most likely headed to Charlotte with one of the other 3 making the 25 roster. Now if Ohka signed a minor league deal, he can actually pitch in Charlotte as well, correct? They also mention this about Carrasco: So it seems like Masset has the inside track. Wass and Carrasco will probably be in AAA, and my guess is so will Ohka. Masset will get the job.

Two very interesting stories about the Dem race today... 1. Obama, who has pretty much tried to avoid discussing race in this contest unless its brought up, has apparently decided its time to open the flood gates. He's set to give a speech on Tuesday in Philly discussing racial issues and the current Presidential race. Should be interesting. 2. More and more, we're starting to see information that the "bump" that Clinton was getting that helped her in OH and TX, and that she is still capitalizing on now, appears to be in great part supported by Republicans. Yup, that's right. According to this article, about 100,000 GOP voters voted for her in OH, 119,000 in TX and 38,000 in MS. This despite the fact that Obama had been consistently dominant among independents and GOP'ers prior to that. So, it appears that perhaps the Rush bump may be real. Republicans, now that their race is over, are pushing Clinton because of course they'd rather have her in 2008. Or, they'd at least rather see the Dems fight to the bitter end.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 08:49 AM) You are probably correct with the power spike thing. I have had several of the damn things blow out on the ceiling fan in my front room. None lasted more than 6 months. I have since switched back to the cheap bulbs, at least for that light. That's exactly what I did, for that one light. All the others have kept on going. Seems weird though, doesn't it? I mean, I know some outlets will have less conditioned power than others, but it shouldn't be THAT different from one outlet to another.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 07:59 AM) Bobby is the easy answer here... My question would be out of the back of the bullpen, who will have the best year, out of guys like Massett, Wasserman, Ohka, Sisco, and company? If last year is any indication, then Wassermann. But it looks like he is probably headed to Charlotte, unfortunately.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 08:37 AM) I had my first of the new lightbulbs burn out after only 6 months. I thought these stupid things were supposed to last forever? You know, its interesting you say that. We installed them all over the house probably a year ago. And mostly they are just fine. But there is one particular one that burned out early - like after 2 months. Replaced it, and the new one in that same location burned out AGAIN. I have a suspicion that perhaps these CFL's are more sensitive to power spikes and such. Your bulb probably had a warranty, if you still have the receipt.

Some of you may recall a discussion in this thread (or a similar one) a while back... SS2K5 and I were discussing the Chicago exchanges, and their consolidations and purchases - looking like they were trying to make a run at New York as the trading capitol of the west. Well, the CME Group made a big move today - they are buying Nymex. Nymex is the largest derivatives exchange in NY, trading futures and options on all kinds of products. Nymex has, over the years, absorbed other exchanges like Comex. The biggest prize in the pot here is, Nymex is the premier trading floor for energies - oil and gas. The deal is worth just short of $10B. Linky.

And ISU's campus police (DPS) aren't armed either. Not allowed to carry guns, even though they are trained to (ISU DPS puts its officers through Iowa State Patrol academy). I wonder how long until they change that.

I think jackiehayes brought up an excellent point earlier about churches as communities, not just one pastor. That is what I was getting at earlier - he just said it better than I did. And there is a difference between defending this pastor (which I was not doing), or even defending Obama (which I was sort of doing), and simply stating that this is not some sort of a mind-turning thing against Obama. I don't like seeing it, I don't like hearing it, and it does actually give me some pause about him. But it doesn't change my mind in some huge way. Neither did the revelations about McCain's spiritual advisor - I'd still vote for McCain over Clinton at this point.

OK, Gameday says that Richar is now pitching for the Sox. Tell me that's a mistake.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) They won't, maybe I should have said more people in this country believe Obama is of Islam in faith that people realize. I know it lacks any merit, but people believe what they want to. I guess, if there is a backlash from this, it isn't about Islam... its about a perceived pro-black racism. But I wonder how much effect that will have, because frankly, people who think that way are already voting for someone else anyway.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 04:58 PM) If the campaign involves religion as a topic for either Obama or McCain, it's a bad thing. They both have what could be best descriped as sketchy and what could worst be descriped as flat our scary backgrounds with their religious beliefs. However, there will be MUCH more backlash over what Obama's pastor said than what McCain's spiritual advisor said, because there are a lot more anti-Islam people in America than people realize. How are Obama's Christian minister's statements causing anti-Islam backlash?

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) Its a scary time to live in this country I'd suggest that the last 7 years or so have been scary. I am actually looking forward to ANY of these three candidates being in office come 2009 - though I'd be less thrilled if it was Clinton. This is politically speaking, of course - the economy is going to suck for a while.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) Still plugging along. Down 1 pound this week. Today is my birthday and I am going out and plan on drinking beer and eating. Cooking a nice big fat ribeye tomorrow, so we shall see what that does to me next week. So far I have been pretty shaky during the weekends, but pretty good with my food choices during the week. I've changed the types of snacks I am eating and trying not to eat for no freakin reason. I am planning on starting to walk with a friend next week so maybe I can walk off the damage I do this weekend and still come out okay next Friday morning. Walking does a lot. People aren't always aware of that. You don't have to do an hour of high-impact cardio to make a difference. I've known multiple people that changed nothing other than walking a mile or two each day, and they lost dramatic weight.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) http://www.heritage.org/Research/Budget/wm1842.cfm Well that doesn't look good. Of course, the article isn't from a new source either, so I'd take it with a grain of salt. I will want to see an actual news agency's report on the budget though. I'll keep an eye out for it.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) I know this is going to light a fire, but why would you make posters with such similarities??? Other than the red shadowing, what are the similarities? Actually, when I saw that poster, I remember thinking of that movies that came out recently... the one that was semi-animated, that had Keanu Reeves in it, live action but painted over... that's what Obama looks like to me. Like an ad for that movie about drugs. I don't recall the name off hand.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) This just in, the Sox will indeed be playing with a third baseman today! Damn. I was really hoping for the leg-tied thing. That would have been funny.

Bearsox should be happy - Sweeney starting for OAK.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 01:28 PM) I think Michigan, because they didn't actually have a real primary, will have a re-vote. Florida will not. However, given that Clinton admitted on NPR this week that she reneged on her pledge to not participate in the Michigan and Florida primaries, I don't feel that her delegates should be seated from those states until a consensus candidate is reached. It isn't just Michigan or Florida that broke the rules, she did too and there should be sanctions for it. Looking more and more like you are right about Michigan - looks like they are closing in on a deal for a new primary on 6/10.
